  1. Same year as mine! Coolness! Anyways...cool pics! Those off roading pics look like me playing in the mud. Well...except for the fact that mine is white. I wish my engine would get here.
  2. Hey, those are my kind of trails! Rocks, rocks, and more rocks! With a little sand on the side. Cool rig Qman! Now alll you need is enough gearing in the axels such that the engine thinks your on the ol' 13"ers.
  3. I agree. I had a rear tire go low on me (about a 15 pound differance between L and R) and that made the rear VERY over reactive. Turn the wheel a little, and the back wants to go first! Just my 2 cents.
  4. Looks awesome! However, I am concerned about the collector directly beneath the tranny. Could that cause the tranny to get too hot? Esp. in autocross/rally situations where the speeds are low? I wonder what would happen if you put the collector past the tranny, like, just in front of the center bearing? I have 2 1/4" from the y pipe back with a turbo muffler and it's fine for the street, but when I'm buzzin at 65, the sound is reasonating in the cab. Kinda puts ya to sleep after a few hundred miles, ya know? Just my .0000002
  5. Hey, I like that! Still wonder about that S curve. However, if it's close to mandrel bends then I don't see any problems. REALLY wanna see how that looks under the car! That's awsome, man!
  6. Go for it! That's how the body lift kit came about. One question.......R U planning on putting a frame under there that the drivetrain and suspension will attatch 2? Just curious.
  7. I'm looking for the rear diff bushings, engine and tranny mounts, and the rear diff side and back gaskets. I took some pics so U know what I need. If U could find out how much they are, that would B cool! Thanks,
  8. Yeah, I know what U mean, Subawoohoo. I need the shift linkage boot that seals the undercarige from the interior.....it don't exist anymore. If U get that looney mexican who asks the same question 4 tmes at the dealer parts counter, look out! He said that the t-stats are differant between 86 and 87! DUH! They're the same blasted part! For crying out loud! Gimme Gentry Ford and Subaru in Ontario, OR. He knew Subarus like the back of his hand.
  9. Lookin' good! As 4 the carb, drop a Weber in! They rock!
  10. Personally, I would not recommend it. Towing a viehicle that weighs the same as the tow rig, but the tow rig was not designed to tow is asking for trouble. If it was like, 10 or 15 miles.....maybe, if that was ur last resort. But 200 is out of the question. I recommend 1) try and C if U can get it running enough to drive it back on it's own power. OR 2:) Find a friend with a minimum of a 1/2 ton truck and a trailer. It's safer. For me, spend a little more and get home safely instead of risking an accident or breakdown in the middle of nowere. Subies were not designed to tow. Maybe a utility trailer to get the new sofa home, but not another viehicle.
  11. OK. I got the stub axels off. Took a little persuation, but I got'em. Guess the Stanley adaptor is stronger than the Durabuilt adaptor, yes? LSD is out of the diff and so is the open diff. Strange thing was the open diff was easier to take apart than the LSD. Interisting......Next step: how do I get those bolts off so I can swap ring gears? Guess I'll hafta pull out the impact gun and pick up some metric impact sockets. Seeing how the gun only came with a few SAE sockets.:-\ Heading 4 bed now and will tackle the next part tomorrow after work.
  12. eeeeeeee.........Guess I'll keep trying with the gentle yet firm process. [hijack] cool [/hijack] Boy, by the time I'm done with the LSD project, the stickers, and me new engine from CCR I'll have a completely different Suby! Wooo HOO!!! ok, back to the workbench.........
  13. Could B a loose wheel. Had that one happen 2 me once; thump speed was porportional to veihicle speed. If that's knot it, could also B a U-joint on the drive shaft has gone south. Same symtoms. Is URs 4WD?
  14. Yup, dat's what I'm following. Just got back from Tucson. Picked up the socket and also wondered over to the dealership and ordered 4 more t-stats. Boy, those new Legacys are hot! Me WANT!!! Anyways....tried to turn that torx bolt and I snapped the 3/8" to 1/4" adaptor! Guess that 15" breaker bar added too much torque for that little adaptor. Now what? Also, are those bolts LH threaded? If not, they are STUCK in there good.:-\ [hijack] BTW Mick, did U get me PM a while ago abouts me sticker order? [/hijack]
  15. Bummer hafta goto Tucson. Figures. Oh Twell. R there any other odd tools I might need?
  16. Thanks! Will C if any of the autoparts stores have such a thing.
  17. Ok, I was reading the FAQ on how to pull the stub axels out and it said I needed a no. 10 torx socket. Went to Home Depot, Sears, and AutoZone and nobody has such a thing! Will try Pep Boys, and Napa tomarrow. Any other places I could try? Maybe I'll just hafta track down a Snap-On tools truck and pick up one there, yes? This project is quite intristing. Never had a diff apart B4. Cool stuff!
  18. So, what's the weight differance? His car vs an STi. If he's light enough then even with less HP, he still has a chance. Corners or a straight line. It's like a Pinto out running big block eights on the straights and in the corners.......see ya!
  19. That's even better! Man, I'm gettin everything mixed up lately. :-\
  20. I say, DO IT!! Beatin' a WRX would be awesome!
  21. Lift is a possibility, but for now, I am sticking with my 13"ers. Besides, pullin' and puttin' a cv shaft just for 20 or 30 minutes of off roading is too much work for me. I've done quite well with the open diff so far, and the LSD will deffinitly help. It's not a locker or welded diff, but for my daily driver, it gives me the best of both worlds. However, when I get stuck with one front tire in the air and the rear bumper holdin' the rear, it's inevible I will need a tug. open, lsd,or welded rear wont help. If I do make this my off roader, it will go on a frame with solid axels. The unibody and CVs are just not designed for that kind of abuse.
  22. Ok, that helps. Guess I'll just hafta find out. Just finished pulling out the open diff out of the car. Operation: LSD hehehehe
