  1. Cleaned bumper and used Mothers' "Back to Black". Big improvement from 10 feet...
  2. Have done this to keep the rubber from baking and failing early on the inner CV. Will try reposing the photo...
  3. I just changed the front struts on my ea82 wagon and xt. Used the HF spring compressor and was wary at first, but the spring compressors worked fine. You really don't need to compress very much. You'll want to have some spare rubber bumpers handy - two of my four were too far gone to reuse. http://www.harborfreight.com/macpherson-strut-spring-compressor-set-3980.html
  4. Why do you want to remove them? Getting to the HLAs is not difficult, but a little time consuming if it is your first time.
  5. I put new struts on my 88gl wagon and it eliminated my uneven tire wear; the old struts were clearly way overdue for replacement. The ride now is so much better than before, should have done it a year ago.
  6. Looks like it might be the end of the clutch fork, but that would mean a lot of wear.
  7. He might be from Moscow, Idaho... I think they speak englais there.
  8. Closing the doors on my 3-door is also a recurring problem because of air pressure; I try to keep the passenger window slightly open to avoid it.
  9. Today, I drove both my 88 gl wagon and 87 gl 3-door; outside temperature was about 45 F and I noticed that the whole dash area around the 87 3-door was extremely hot with the fan on the first setting and heat on full while the 88 wagon, with the fan that only works on the highest setting was not warm at all with the heat on full. Is the hot dash on the 3-door just from the 50W 1st resistor? "0.46 ohms, 50W 0.6 ohms, 22W 1 ohms, 16W "
  10. Clean up all the grounds, disconnect and inspect connections in the engine bay wiring harness - look for corrosion and spray with contact cleaner.
  11. When I removed the factory ac from my 88 gl wagon, I replaced the alternator bracket with a dl bracket
  12. Correct, the egr pipe is then up front on the driver's side. Don't understand your second question.
  13. XT and Loyale/gl/dl do not have the same dimensions - I'd be careful about what you order. The XT is not as tall as the others.
  14. the damn plastic trim above the driver-side feet area. Driving to work yesterday in the 88 gl wagon, my clutch got stuck fully depressed going up a hill in heavy traffic. I thought that either my clutch cable had broke or that my clutch fork had bent. Was able to use my toes to pull the clutch up and resume driving - slowly and with a minimum amount of shifting. On the way home last night, I again carefully drove hoping to make it back without further problems, but it got stuck again and I realized it was the plastic trim - the piece has fingers for the clutch and brake pedals and had shifted just enough to catch the clutch pedal arm and block it from the return position. I tore it off and continued the drive home without further problems. Will be taking that piece off on my other gl.
  15. Is this the car? http://www.cardomain.com/ride/654742/1987-subaru-xt Sorry, duplicate posting of information from page 2.
  16. No, it is right-side up; the only difference besides the port problem, is that the exhaust manifold studs have to be moved.
  17. It is interesting to see what the original MSRP's for the older subarus are: http://www.nadaguides.com/Classic-Cars/1986/Subaru
  18. Any recommendations for an alignment shop in the Portland area? I'm noticing uneven tire wear on my front tires - outside 1/4 on both sides. This is on the '88 gl wagon.
  19. Yes, the heat shield - makes sense now. Thanks for the quick response!
  20. Am helping a friend with his '90 Loyale ea82; we managed to put the driver's side head on the passenger side and vice a versa in the course of replacing the head gaskets. Now the tapped coolant port is on the wrong side to connect with the 90 degree tube from the intake manifold. Any problem in cutting the angled tube and running a hose to the port that is now on the front of the driver's side? (Don't want to drill and tap the head on the passenger side and don't want to redo the head gaskets - engine in car.)
  21. Not exactly what you asked, but here is a UK company that has done Impreza pick-ups: http://www.htautos.co.uk/8.html#
