Sorry, Its a 2005 outback. the left side (top and bottom trim and front bumper) is diffrent than the right side (top and bottom and rear bumper). The color from the factory (I believe) is titled "Willow Green with moss green lower accent" . I guess my question is, is it supposed to be smooth or rough? My car currently has both!

2005 outback with Willow Green with moss green lower accent paint scheme. Trying to figure out how this could have happened. I received a full carfax outlining issues and accidents but when asked about the discrepancy of the paint this is the one spot the previous owner was not clear with me on. He pretty much just said he was unhappy with it also. I tried rephrasing the question but he did not provide any sort of answer on how or why it was this way. The lower trim on one side of the car is textured and on the other side glossy and smooth. Could this be perhaps from 2 different years of trims? I have attached a pic to show the difference. This is where the drivers side wheel cover meets with the rear bumper. the texture of the wheel cover (and the remaining drivers side door and lower trim as well as front bumper) can best be described as a rhino liner texture. The smooth portion is the rear bumper and this appears stock.

Hey all! Just purchased my car and it has 97k on the clock. I am trying to decide wether to replace now or if it will hold off (a few months) till I at least hit 100k miles. also, Has anyone developed a tutorial? I saw some great resources on you tube but I always like to see a step by step if anyone has one? Thanks

Thanks guys! Going through the service records yesterday I noticed that the car has quite a bit of service! It seems like it has had a trans service every 30k (3 times so far), spark plugs at 50k, rack and pinion replaced at 70k and the list goes on. Although the Previous owner was wealthy, I hope the car just isnt a lemon! Either way it seems like they took very good care of it. I will be buying the timing belt kit and rear bearings this week

Well I ended up with it at a great price. Wheel bearings were not as bad as the PO had thought (although one or both will need replacement) the issue was exacerbated by rust accumulation on the rotors I believe. I drove it the 45 miles home without issue. I have a stack of papers indicating a near complete service history since 25k miles and a carfax report to max. This is possibly the best craigslist sale I have ever found haha.

I can do all the work myself/ with help. That is good to know! All very good info. I think I can get this car at a pretty good deal. Would 4500 be too much? or maybe 4k? I thought the same thing. It sounds like he took care of it but I will def check everything listed. Do you think 4k-4500 would be a fair price? I will most def try to talk him down off his 5k (but negotiable) asking price due to all the work needed but I dont want to be a jerk. I wont offer until I get a chance to look at it though...have to make time to get the car as it is 1 hour away.

Greetings subi gods, I am looking once more at another outback. Taking my time to find the right one for a second vehicle....An adventure vehicle for myself, my lady and our dog. I recently found a 2005 with 97k miles on it. 2nd owner. Here is a pic Here is what I know from the owner, He sounds like a good guy and is upfront about what he knows: 1. We're second owners since May 2006. 23,000 miles or so then, so we've put 75,000 or so on. The mileage is actually 97k-ish 2. My wife did the servicing, so it was almost certainly as set out in the manual. It was our only car for a long time. It needs a service now, though, and that will be the timing belt service. In addition it will need rear wheel bearings and some brake/brushing work for the safety inspection. I have a pretty full service history. It was worked on last year, and I certainly have the receipts since 2011 or so, and some before. I'll see if my wife has anything else from before then. We may have a list of work needed from the last place that looked at it - we just got new cars as my wife has a new job. 3. Two low-speed door knocks. One was me, embarrassingly, reversing and hitting a tree with the door in 2008 or so. Simple replacement. The other was around then too, an uninsured driver collision which needed the passenger side rear door replacing. There's trim missing on the passenger side, too. We certainly have the paperwork from the collision. No long-term effect, and a long time ago. but we want to give full info on a 'we'd expect the same' basis. We also have the huge cargo box and a recent Tomtom. Custom seat covers, but they might not be to your taste. Given this info....What else should I be looking for? what is a good price for it?

This is great info. When I go to check out the car I will just let it get good and warmed up and check for gremlins. making sure everything runs as it should....If not I might walk. I just dont need this car bad enough to put up with alot of engine work right now outside of the basic maintenance items listed.

thanks. its only a grand so even if it needs work i think its worth it. just worried about other issues. historically, how are the automatic transmissions on these? Should I hold out for a manual? my daily is a 2016 wrx so I am not in any hurry...just saw a good deal for a beater and wanted to snatch it up.

Can anyone run this vin? 4S3BG6858V7636543 Also, I am relatively new to the subaru scene. Although I am decent with a wrench, I have mainly stuck with domestic vehicles until now....Meaning I am not current with all potential issues, quirks with older subaru's. Car: 1997 Subaru - Legacy Outback 2.5L The car has only 144,339 miles, runs good, is very clean, all four tires still in great shape with 12,700 miles on them. automatic trans Work/parts needed: Power steering pump reseal kit (we've been adding power steering fluid on a regular basis) Oil pan and header gaskets Spark plugs with ignition wires The A/C is not working, but there is nothing major wrong with the car, and you can still drive it. Thoughts?

would you be able to elaborate on how the wrx is a high maintenance car? I had an audi a4 before my wrx.... With the cam follower issues, and all the recommended service... that was a high maintenance car. edit.. Having just purchased mine with no experience about these I would truly like to know (for my own knowledge, so I can know what to look forward to)
