  1. What is involved with removing hydraulic lifters from an EA81 block?
  2. I was planning on doing a strut insert mod to the struts any how and while I am there I can move, shrink, etc the coilovers to make room. Cheers for the heads up though!
  3. Oh, I see. So the Legacy's have much more room then the older EA81's then... Well at least I know I can fit the tyres I want to run under one now. Thanks
  4. Yes, that's what I thought I knew already. Kinda wanting to know if the circlip on each side is in the same place. Like can a left axle go in the right side of the diff and are all the circlipped diffs (LSD or open, old or new) the same (as in are the circlips always in the same spot)? I know its a complex question.... lol
  5. Like 95 to 05, Forester, Legacy, Outback. I know the axles are most likely different lengths but I'm more interested in the splined stub fitting in the diff and the difference of those stubs if they are different...
  6. Are the rear axles for the stubless diffs same left and right? And are they interchangeable to limited slip diffs? Or do the LSD's different and use different axles?
  7. Ok. So 6" total lift will fit 30"s under it. That's cool Not to high then. Cheers
  8. that must be a US thing. I used am 88 disc...
  9. if the ea62 had fliped valves then my guess now is the 71 would of too just like the 81. So that means dif cam and heads as well as manifold...
  10. If you have an EA81 with a 225mm clutch already you can keep your flywheel and just put 4 to 6mm spacing washers between your starter motor and gearbox. Then just use the EA82 friction plate in the EA81 flywheel and pressure plate.
  11. Pretty sure the EA71 dual carb motors weren't like the EA81 dual carb motors... Just standard EA71 with a dual carb manifold... Although it might have more compression. The EA81 version had 9.5 vs 9.0. You are asking in the wrong forum, don't complain when you don't get the perfect answer...:-\
  12. so are you going to run twin spark? Or are those holes just going to be plugged?
  13. So I plan to build up a Liberty/Legacy as a bit of a race car to replace my 83 wagon. I'll be doing custom struts most likely so no rubbage problems as I'll use smaller springs and spring perches. But I want to fit 30 to 31 inch mud terrains to it and was wondering how much lift (body and suspension) people think I would need to do so? I'll be whacking the heck out of the guards and cutting the fenders back a lot, no problems with that. But 31" tyres are pretty big so I was thinking I need lift.. I also need lift (about 3" or more) so I don't just float in the puddles, need that body up high so she doesn't just boat it! Thanks...
  14. This is my brothers recycled efforts, not for a Subaru but same deal http://offroadingsubarus.com/forum/index.php?topic=732.0
  15. The EJ is barely 20kg heavier... It makes no difference. When with modded suspensions geometry, an EJ, AWD, 27" MT's, and a 300mm steering wheel my Brat was fine in carparks, at speed, offroad etc. Only time I would have trouble was climbing rocky slopes that these Subaru's really were not meant to do anyhow...
  16. This topic would surely be better suited to the forum category which has Legacy in it's description? New Gen Subarus: Legacy to Current Models Post anything dealing with Legacy, Impreza, Forester, Outback, Baja, SVX, WRX, or any other newer Subaru here.
  17. Could it just be the hub spline is stripped out on that side? Which would mean nothing wrong with the gearbox or CV axle.
  18. ^^ Agreed. and it also mostly depends on how the car was treated, either how it was driven or kept when not driven etc.
  19. Took out third place again. Only this time the car is well screwed. Not racing it again. I'll post up pictures and the story when I get my computer back from the gf's place. for now have a look at some of these vids by others on the tube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KBB2p1d5yLo
  20. Whats the United States way of spelling it then? We (aus) pronounce it Ton-no Cover You (us) pronounce is Tun-no Cover? As far as I can see its the same spelling, just different pronunciation: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tonneau http://www.thefreedictionary.com/tonneau http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/tonneau http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/tonneau
  21. http://offroadingsubarus.com/lrc08.html The car is almost ready, just finishing up some more decals and sponsor logos. I've made up some custom long travel front struts using inserts to gain more strength at the bottom of the strut where it keeps bending on me. I've also welded some 40x6mm angle iron to the radius rods to stop them bending. The rear is raised an inch over normal full adjustment height by welding a little more on the end of the adjuster nut.. Motor is still standard EA81, although a different one, this time from 91 Brumby. Gearbox is standard 4sp 3.7 with the low range lever held by a tie down strap in low range. Rear diff is welded. Tyres are 27x8.5R14 Kumho M/T's, this time with tubes in there to keep them inflated as I had many flats the last two times I went (even with 30psi). I will also be filling the disty with grease (like I have done the past two times I've raced in this event) and the plug leads. Thinking also of putting a 60mm vac tube I have on the standard airbox and leading up up behind the strut pillar to keep it out of the mud spray. Well, when its all done and dusted I'll post up some pictures and video hopefully of this years race. Cheers, Phiz
  22. Alright, finally someone who spells tonneau right! haha. Looks good mate.
  23. Just knock the extra studs out and put them back in the original holes... done..?
