The outside onboard shots were done with a wireless camera and VCR, powered buy a 1200watt house inverter, I still need to make up a box to put it all in the tray. We headed out to Dorado Downs (a property 240km away from where I live, in the aussie outback.) Got there at about 4pm Friday, had a little drive around. Got back to the camp site and cooked some chicken schnitzels. My Brother slept in his 83 wagon, said it was quite alright. I slept in the back of my ute. I'm 182cm tall, the tray is 160cm long. It was nice looking at the stars, until it got cold and I closed the tailgate... Still was ok though, better then setting up a tent anyhow. There wasn't a hill that the Pajero buggy didn't make it up. Infact it done it all with ease. I told Steve, the builder and driver of the buggy he should go up in reverse as a challenge, it only made it about half way up though.. haha.

As promissed in another post I edited up the video from last weekend. Here it is, tell me what you think. http://webmaster.beverleypaine.com/downloads.html Top video on this page (Dorado Downs)

You'd have to cut it all out and replace it with new sheet metal, and I would also add reinforcing tube steel. But really, it's only a Subaru, not an expencive classic. Why is this one so special?

Have you done a search for the flash player download yet? I'd say just get the latest version on the macromedia site and you should be good to go. Other wise try FireFox instead of IE. Has been doing wonders to security problems for me. -

Yeah, saw that in an auto shop a while ago (the video, not the car or the girl ) "Massive amounts of stuff" :-\ lol -
If you done like a 8" lift or something, do you think it would be possible (not to hard) to put in custom double wish bone on the front?

I have seen some 185/80R13 snow tires before. But nothing bigger. So I would say that is the biggest you'll get. But you guys are lucky in the US. You get Pug mags.. Just grab a set of those We're on a car forum talking about cars.. As far as I know there isn't any "scientific journals" on what is the best thing to have in a engine. I could be very wrong as I could not be bothered looking for such book. All the manuals I've owned for cars and bikes have had at least one mistake missing out something or stating a wrong "fact". And as far as I know this is about as technical as car books go. The way I see it with engines is if it lasts 200,000KM and runs enough KW I am happy. Balanced or unbalanced, inline or v... Who here feels compelled to provide the "correct" information and stat what is "wrong?" Can't you just leave it upto the reader to make up their own mind? -
This reminds me, I've got a video to edit up from last weekend (from Dorado Downs, same sort of stuff, only it's all scrub. Speed is the real key here, also some good mud terrains help. And my welded diff helps. Digs three big holes pretty quick. Whats the yellow sticker mean in WA? And is that a good place or what for a P plate on that silver wagon?? lol.. I heard something about 3rd gear in there? I was mostly using 5 - 6K RPM and 1st low on my 27" kumho's on the sand hills. Worked good for me, hehe Anyhow. Looked like some fun. I like the roof cam, I've also got something up my sleeve, I'll have to go edit some video now.

On topic or off topic, I have to say this. If you read something someone has said, lets just say "3 main bearings are better," and you believe it right away then you must be a complete idiot. I'm not saying 3 are better then 5 or 5 are better then 3. I really couldn't give a rodents rectom... And who gets off saying that they need to filter out the "wrong" statments and keep the "right" ones, or words to the same meaning. There is no right or wrong. There is different, but not right or wrong. If you think you are right, that's not saying everyone must think that too. You are right to yourself. But not to me, or others. The media, internet, books, etc, are full of information. I keep hearing people complaining about how the internet passes on wrong andmisinformation and everyone should read books and newspapers. What makes them better?? Just because to get published you have to right something a publisher agrees on, or something that is just plan crap and will sell for bucket loads. Do we now need a degree in everything or anything to post on the internet? What is going on here? Let me say it again. If you believe anything you see on the internet, or even TV, newspapers, books, blah blah blah, without thinking about it for yourself and making up your own mind you are a complete...... I'll leave it at that. Personally I think more bearing the better. I'm not saying everyone should believe what I do. That's just stupid. Could you put away you huge ego's for a moment and just let people believe what they want. I'm just bored of reading this "bearing fight" in ever different part of the forum for the last month or so... You think if you type more you will win?? Is that it? It doesn't work, trust me. :-p Oh and I also think the EA82 was a huge mistake. Replacing push rods for timing belts?? WAIST OF TIME! Pushrod FTW!!!!! :headbang: -
That's a brillant idea. Can't see why I didn't think of it. Of cause it would be harder on a Subaru because of the diff stubs. But... I guess you could cut the inner cup up and weld it to the "new" driveshaft cup? I've always looked at the yota IFS Hilux (Tacoma?) front driveshafts and wondered how they get that much angle without destroying the CV's.. Is it just because they are bigger? Welcome back for however long you stay Morgan

That's the Aus vs US dollar for you...

I feel that's my problem too... :-\:-p The locked/welded rear diff makes ALL the difference. If you haven't got it locked, weld it up and suprise them! Oh, and make sure you take plenty of pics of there faces, not there cars! hehe

Offroad Videos Walker Valley Soobies plus Toys
Phizinza replied to Scott in Bellingham's topic in Off Road
interesting commentary on some of those vids. Kinda good really, gives you a bit more of whats going on. That place looks like heaven to me. When I die can I go there instead? -
Can you tell us what kumho (model number, size?) you had on there? Wasn't one of the M/T's was it? I have seen a rig with 28" tires on it that wasn't lifted. Enough modification and bashing and 195/75's should fit ok. Also remember that different back spacing on your wheels means you may or may not be able to have big wheels. But the 14" pug wheels are close to stock offset right?

Completely alloy (same as Subarino's I think) 3-4mm thick on the squre bits with 1.5" tube. I don't think I would put a winch on a alloy bullbar though. Want steel for that. Or at least make the brackets and middle part out of steel to hole the winch.

I think people do think that it is a safty risk letting people mod there cars. I haven't seem many accidents because of modded offroad rigs, more of just stupid people loading a trailer wrong and losing traction on the rear axle. There are a lot more people on the road that don't like modified cars then there are that do. I think that's the problem. And now that we have the laws we're stuck with them. Who would pass a law that makes it "un-safer" for road uses? Another thing is. A lot of the time they don't care so much when they look over the car at rego. I've seen a few cars that got past with after market steering wheels and boss kits. But if the cop sees them he asks plenty of questions. I've even heard of a guy who had his car defected because his BOV was venting "harmful" gas to the atmosphere... Air is now harmful? That's like taking someone to prison because his wearing some "bling" (gold chains, for the ignorant.) It's a messed up world. But I try my best to stay under the radar and enjoy my mods. I just can't see how drilling some holes in my hubs, with plenty of metal left around them, and running two extra studs pre wheel could be unsafe.... the_postie, thats exatcly how I see it.. It can be done with enough money. But really, I think before I go that far I am gonna make a 'real' offroad machine. Something that needs towing to places. Something along the lines of this.

finaly some real suspension for my wagon!!!
Phizinza replied to suberdave's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
For aesthetics that hight is awesome. Looks sweet. Can't see why you'd want to back any lower then that (unless you want to drop the front lower too?) Looks sweet. -
Something to note. Here in Australia it is all random which diff ratio you got in the 85 to 89 models. I have seen a 85 with a 3.9, 87 with a 3.7 and a 88 with a 3.7. The 87 was a "sports wagon" and the other two were "touring (high top) wagons." This might be the same in Sweden too, or it might be the same as the US. Look for a sticker on the rear diff that gives a ratio number.

My car is only 2" lifted, but the lift wouldn't go past rego as its only the tube steel sort and its not thick enough. Theres heaps of things it is defectible for, for example, 300mm steering wheel and boss kit, oversized tyres, modified center console, modified wiring, welded diff and missing drive shaft, modified front suspension, 6lug conversion, even the rollbar in the tray is illegal due to it being closer then 150mm away from the drivers seat. But I guess the car still looks legal. So i'm kinda lucky too. And living in a country town helps.

EJ22 in EA81, wiring help please. <yet more help needed>
Phizinza replied to Phizinza's topic in Subaru Retrofitting
Ok, thanks so far. What's the box under the left front seat (remembering this is a RHD car) do? On the same side of the car as the the cruise control unit is next to the glovebox on the fender wall. Are the relays for everything in that box under the hood? I have a lot of the wiring out. All the dash and the wires that go from ECU to the engine thru the firewall next to the steering collum. Also I got the cruise control wires out that are intergreated in to the dash loom. I don't want the cruise control either. I'll see if I can post some pics of it so far later. Sorry if this is hard to read, I'm typing it up on my PDA in the workshop. (Gotta love wireless) -
On one of the discussions about SubaruBrats brat on AUSubaru 3 out of 5 replies were bashing it and saying it wouldn't do anything offroad as the stock running gear wouldn't hold up to the huge tires. No one seemed to want to ask SubaruBrat what it was like or what it could do as they all seemed to "know" (talking like they had driven it even.) I agree, AUSubaru is a good starting point to learn about Australian Subaru's. But they don't like peoples imaginations to run wild there. And they will only listen to you once you have driven past them up the trail... Look under a topic called "2 door L series coupe" (or something like that) That is why I am here asking people with experience, not there talking to "know-it-alls" Sorry if I sound aggressive, it's late and I'm just about to go to bed. Good night (morning?) all.

Front diff interchangeability: The true answer
Phizinza replied to WJM's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Umm... can someone tell me again what the title of this thread is? Welded and rear LSD diff topics should go in offroad forum I would think.
