Looks good junkie. Personally I like the personal touch you have done over just getting them coated white, or black. I painted my rims white with spray. I didn't clear coat and the paint got heaps of chips in it. Hopefully you have better luck.. That Candy Apple colors are nice huh? I am guessing it looks better in the real then in the pics? Can't wait to see the M/T's on 'em and all muddy I love mud

Headbolt Socket Possibility
Phizinza replied to NorthWet's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
There is only one nut that I couldn't get a socket on. So I just used a open ended spanner. I done one of the nuts up with the torque wrench, then tried the open ended on it to feel how tight it was, then done up the other nut to that tightness. I haven't and any problems with it yet (done that method like 4 times now.) As for socket drive size... We use the same 1/4", 3/8", 1/2", 3/4", and my fav 1" But a socket that fits right up would be good. And sounds needed for the EA82 (haven't had a good look inside of one yet...) Good find. -
... Wouldn't I just love to own enough land to have a purpose built rig for ... Very cool

Someone said earlier that more offset courses more rubbing, I was just saying in my case it doesn't... So it's not an "always" thing. Also I was trying to say, the nissan 14"s are quite nice, if you can find a set you'll be happy. Also, with the drilling... I done my front hubs with a drill press but by the time I went to do my rears I needed to fix the press (it's old...) So I used a hand/power drill. If you use a hole punch to mark your holes, then a 5mm drill bit will go in pretty much where you marked it. Then I used the 14mm drill bit and opened out the holes. Whacked the studs in and it works. Maybe not as tough as the original 4 lug setup, but if you make sure you do up the original 2 studs first, then use the others just to hold it on better, it hasn't coursed a problem with out of balence for me yet. But I wouldn't use a hand drill again... I'd make sure I do it with a drill press next time. (maybe for the rear disc brakes I want)

On my 15x6" mags I got 215/60R15's. I picked this wide size as I wanted the bulging tire wall look (which turned out well ) But for snow/mud/gravle you might want something more like 185-195... As for brand, well I got a local Australian brand, so can't help you there.. Oh, and btw, the 215's make the Brat handle amazing on the pavment! And because they are just over 25" bit (23" is stock) the gearing isn't bad at all.

Nice tires..... Guess there not road worthy though
-
... wtf what? NT, SA, WA, maybe tas? don't have the Road Worthy Certificate thingamobob... The Short version is... Do it, do it good, get a engineers certifcate, and have fun.. No way around just attaching mods and driving legally. And I will point out again, unless you know the road rules to every state, you might not know what your on about. It truly is amazing how different they are state to state...

I'm pretty sure they are Australians... might explain a few things, huh?

I have a set of 14x6" 6 (5.5" or 139.7mm) lug wheels off a Nissan. Might be different because I am in Australia. But I would think they would of shipped these wheels to the US as well. Heres a pic. They make it so my 27" kumho's sit inside the guards (unlike the ever popular "Speed - Desert Rats" we get here in Aus) But with the Nissan rims my kumho's rub, with the More offset speedy's they didn't (bit weird...?) I am pretty sure the Nissan 14" wheels were an 'option' on their two wheel drive "utes" (or as you might say, pickups.) Again, not sure what type of Nissans you have over their. Differently go with Steelies, Alloy's scare me when it comes to offroading!

Anyone know what the VW Golf diesels are like?
Phizinza replied to Phizinza's topic in Subaru Transplants
Bit be a big ask, but. Has anyone got any info on sizes of these engines? Like how long, wide, ect. I was thinking you could use two radiators either side of the engine. Though it's all just "thinking" at the moment. Would be nice and interesting having a diesel. Oh, any idea on how much they weight? -

Ta, See, after driving the 3L turbo diesel toyota, I kinda lost interest in the subie motors Although I still like my dual carbed EA81 for highend grunt. I just think a TDI would be awesome for offroading. -
Powered trailers? lol! Looks like a blast!
-
Just wondering... It would be cool to put a 1.9L turbo diesel in my Brumby. I know that they are long, and prolly heavy though But the torque! Mmmm. Anyone know how they drive. What sort of power they have vs normal "light truck/pick-up" diesels? Or did the US never get the 1.9L Turbo diesel?

Just playing around with paint colours...
Phizinza replied to Phizinza's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Interesting idea... It's just dirty Stainless Steel at the moment, not chrome. But it is shiny-ish. -

Phizinza replied to Phizinza's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
It was a little hard to make this paint job look good as my car was pretty dirty in that pic, and has been for 3 or so months... Got a real good clean yesterday after heading out on the beach.. But I'l wash it again. Each to their own. I've been doing lots of orange coloured things lately. I like the colour. But like I said before. I am not going to paint my brumby any time soon. And when I do, I think it will get a freash coat of Flair Red -
Good idea. Good to know that she will be able to help herself on the side of the road, huh? Although, with a good running subie, you can pretty much just keep driving, even when things do go wrong, lol... Those middle eyes are kinda cool... just for a unique touch.

Might of already been said, but... I was havinf probs with the search on this site, but a few good people showed me what needed to be done. Read here http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=59363 Basiclly if your looking for things with less then 4 letters you need to use the wildcard, before or after, like this LSD* instead of this LSD, see?

Phizinza replied to TheSubaruJunkie's topic in Off Road
Thats like the first subie video I saw... good stuff mate -
Good stuff! Getting paid is good. Driving in the mud is good.. So whats it like at the same time?

First 2 seconds and Im like.. Hmm, Australia... Lol, weird how it's just so obvious. Great choice of music. love it! I need a better diff. So do you take an driveshaft out when you want to drive on the road? Or is it a locker?

Each state has their own regs... Absolute bolics if you ask me. Here in SA (South Australia) all you have to do with a 1" is tell them you have it. 2" requires them to look at it and give you a engineers certificate. They say you can't go anymore, but if you do it right, and get it engineered, then they will accept it. But I bet it would cost lots and be heavy afterwards... As for wheels..... The 14" "Desert Rats" from Speedy are actually illegal on any Subaru with any tyres here in SA. Because they widern the track of the car more then ?20mm? or something like that. You also can't go any bigger then like 5% on your total tyre diameter, which again, total bull****... As it only makes a difference if your tyres are heavier with braking, not bigger. I am not sure about insurance yet, maybe if I crash I will let you know. Oh, and good luck getting 6 stud hubs legal... I don't mean to crash your party, it's just law is over the top, and it is really almost impossible to get anything legal here. btw, my car is completely illegal. But who's to know? And again, the law is different in every state, though I think WA and SA are pretty close, just Vic/NSW/Qld that have those stupid RWC's... :-\ Phizinza, www.offroadingsubarus.com

Umm... It is winter here (aust/nz) now... We'll be back to summer and then you'll get snow.. It's a cycle. Can you wait? As for the snow... I wish I lived where it snowed.. No I don't, to fridgin cold! Still, theirs some nice mud around here, just no time to go play in it. And it only gets drier every year...
