new wheels for the subie. 15" superlites.
Phizinza replied to Phizinza's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
You mean wheel, not drum, right? I didn't drill the rims, I drilled the hubs. But I get what you are talking about. I will add that to the site later as extra info. Cheers. -

It looks so much better then I thought it would.. I am not to keen on street utes, but with the 215/60R15's on the 6" wide rim it looks wicked. I'm in love again, with my subie... Just if it would stop going wrong. It's like keeping a depressed person happy.. Now the prop shaft has a bad joint -
lowering springs for 87 standard
Phizinza replied to HATCHY's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Plenty of people do it to their riced up cars... And seems it's a cheap old roo, why not do it cheap! lol... I would never do this my self, but I have never heard of someone getting into lots of trouble doing it. It's just a cheap fix.. Also, not droping the torsion bar, but only backing it off a notch on the spline is what Blue Steel said. You can always get springs made with what ever height + spring rate at a good suspension shop.. Well you can here is Aus anyhow One other thing... What do people think is more "ricer" Lowering your car so you like it more, or keeping it as it is so everyone else likes it more. I see "ricer" as another version of "show pony" or "show off" If you want to do this, heres a link to what I done www.OffroadingSubarus.com/6stud_conversion.html -

I am working on a 6 stud conversion guide for my website. So in a few mins I will have that up. Then I will post the pics of the wheels on my car. Brumbyboy: Sucks how this "island" is so big huh? The superlites came in 6 stud. They used to be fitted to a Ford Courier 2WD truck. I also had to get some new lug nuts, as the old ones didn't fit. Well, they fit, but you can't get a 19mm socket or wheel brace onto them.. The new wheel nuts I got have a 12mm hex drive in the middel of them so you use a adaptor on the wheel brace. Worked a treat, and looks great. But there's another $40 gone. So far I have paid: $172 for the 4 wheels $10 for half a tube of Autosol $39 for 24 lug nuts. $460 For 4 215/60R15's I also got some 14" six lug Nissain wheels so my Mud Terrains are going on them for when I want to hit the dirt. My old 4x140 Speedy - Dessert Rats are going my my bros wagon. Should be good when he gets his licence back Pics of the car, new wheels, and six stud conversion in a moment Gotta keep the suspense going :-p -
Cheers for that... Learn something every day. Good luck with the build up. Should be sweet.

Last week I got some new wheels... Heres a pic They are Performance Superlites... (Performance is the brand BTW) I will have some pics of them on my Brat for you tomorrow, but for now you can just see how they cleaned up... I got them on eBay AU for $172 to my door. Thats AU dollars. I have got some tires, $460 later (and they were the cheap ones.) Rubber is expencive here. See ya tomorrow! EDIT: Check down the page for the pics on the car!

Nice sedan, love the look of it. Was it in a video posted here by Subarino? Lots of blue smoke? Anyway, I know what your talking about the dust.. This bulldust moves out of the way of your tyres like it doesn't exist and you sink very fast... Makes pot holes a nightmare. There is such thing as going slow.. But reving it makes the videos look so much better

Dunno about swampers... But it is easier to turn my 27" M/T kumho's (215mm wide) with my no power steering then it is to turn some 195mm wide road tyres. On all surfaces for your info... People say that I must be really tough to drive with 27" tyres and no power steering, I look at them and go... ITS A SUBIE... you don't need P/S! :-p I love my EA81

Tanks that are made out of bad steel. Rust is our worst enemy. But it should last you a while to come. Hope you enjoy it, and this wonderful forum... Not a idiot in sight (most days)...

Well the bed is about 1600mm x 1200mm (1.6M x 1.2M, 62" x 47", 20 squre ft? me math might be off :-\) It is about 350mm deep, so 14"... about 15 squre ft? Total of 35 squre ft? I didn't pass math, so please don't go only by my word. Though there are some great calculators online, just search google for "squre ft calculator" or something...

Question... When you talk about o-ring'ed gaskets do you mean that metal ring around the cyl holes? The cheap o gaskets I get for my EA81 (well, not really cheap'o, just cheap) have that too.. Or are we talking about something else about the headgaskets? Soundin like a noob.

Ratio of running vs. non-running subarus
Phizinza replied to Snowman's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Tripple post? I smell spam advertising here. But on topic, My Brat still runs and drives. My brothers wagon is road going now. My parents wagon is too. and now we have 2 wrecks that ... we can't even move with a winch. -
That would of been my post you saw the info in... Cos the search does not work I will just post all the info again. Oh, and sorry for hijacking (if this thread is only about EA81's) http://ausubaru.com/main/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=1589&highlight=

Convert carby into injection
Phizinza replied to su87bi's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Well, seems we can't get SPFI in Aus, and seem MPFI uses different heads it makes it diffacult to do an easy "extra hp" gain. If you get a wrecked EA82t (turbo) car (or just buy the engine with the loom and ECU) it isn't "to" diffacult to put it in. hardest thing is the loom I would think. Other option is to buy an adaptor plate and Weber carbie to fit your EA82 manifold. They say the Webers give a lot more power, esp down low. But if you buy an adaptor plate it is like $140, and the carb second hand will cost $50 to $150. Then you might need a rebuild kit for it, another $100. Sometimes you can get more umph with new plugs, leads, rotor, cap, air filter, fuel filter, ect, ect.. But I think if you want more power, you WANT MORE power... If you get a wrecked 85 to 89 RX you most likely will get a rear LSD and rear Disks too, which will make your power upgraded car stop as well. Always a helpful thing. Oh, one other thing... You might be able to get a dual carb manifold and carbies from.. somewhere in Aus.. and that is a bit better then a weber. They came on EA81's with different heads. But you can just get the manifold and carbs which should fit to your EA82. Might have a bit of re-piping to do, because of the different place for the thermostat housing. -
Will, do you have any other cars? Obviously you want it to be a street car, right? EJ's with all the parts mixed around seems like fun, With what you have I would personally do a EJ25t dohc... But it depends on what other cars you have to drive. You don't want two cars that are the same(ish) to drive. Difference is nice.

ahhhhhhhhh! they wrecked it !!!!!
Phizinza replied to kingwill's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Replace "truck" with what rhymes with "truck" Sad to hear about your XT, I saw one in the wreckers today, barely any body damage (except the sun roof was broken into). it was blue too, looks so nice. I hope you get plenty from the insurance, good luck. -
lowering springs for 87 standard
Phizinza replied to HATCHY's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Sorry, can't answer your question. But here's another one Can you get new torsion bars for a hatch that are lowered?, just a thought, maybe you could pull the bar(s?) out and move them around a notch on the splines? You could try cutting some old springs, just take off a loop and see what happens... -
If you count in hours driven on different surfaces my car would be getting maybe 2% offroaded... And look at it http://webmaster.beverleypaine.com/images... But I still want it to be like this for when I do offroad. It sounds like you have suspension issue, maybe worn springs/shocks. Or if you have the adjuster type rear struts maybe they are adjusted wrong. The car should either sit level or tilt forwards, I guess you could use new springs to fix this, but if your shockers are the problem, you might have more problems with harder springs... Just a thought Maybe if you posted a picture we could see if it's your rear that is low, or your front that is high...?

That first pic is a classic... Is you pulling you out backwards??

How to remove an engine/tranny without a hoist
Phizinza replied to Numbchux's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I done my EA81 (without a gearbox attached) with just my dad and I. Didn't even use rope.. How ever, this was a bad idea, cos after almost getting i out I found the choke cable still connected And my back hurt for a few hours after.. lol Now I have a hoist and it's great. Mainly cos you is like ... SIMPLE ... to align the engine with the engine leveler attachment to fit it back on. The way Numbchux done it here is the only way you can do it on my bros Fiat X1/9... Lookin good chux. -
How long has it been doing this noise? 5K miles? Has it been getting worse over that time? I don't like the sound of driving a car with diff bearings on their way out, but if it's still the same as 5k ago, it might be alright for another 5k... If you can, I'd swap the trans, or get some new bearings for it before you go to far on it. It can cost a fair bit to move a car 1k miles I would imagine, more then a new trans even/maybe? I have no experiance in this, so I am justing imagining what might go wrong. Oh, got any stub axles lying around? Maybe turn it into RWD for a quick fix, then fix the diff later? Just an idea.

I hear Brats sell for a lot more then wagons over in the US (well, it's the same here in Aus.) So it probably is worth it. Talk the seller down and see if you can get it for cheaper, but don't spend more then you want to. Well that was a lot of obvious info, I feel superior now Good luck with it. If you get it, I hope you'll be happy with it. They sure are neat little trucks.
