<haven't read any of this topic> Looks good, although it wouldn't work with my speedo cos its so stuffed it reads different everytime I go for a drive. So in stead I use my PocketPC with a Bluetooth GPS unit. Even gives me vertical speeds!
-
So whats so great about the 5 speeds? I know they have slightly better low range. But the top gear would be useless in my Brat, it's 4th already goes faster then the tires are rated...
-
You should be able to fit some 25" tires with no modding/bashing. With a 4" lift you can fit 27" with no modding bashing. If you are happy to cut your fenders and do some BFH bashing to the fender walls. Then 26" or 27" tires can go on a non lifted roo. If you want to know what size tires are 25", ect, use this. It works wonders. Cheers, Phizinza http://www.offroadingsubarus.com

Holy rumbly exhaust, batman!

Looks clean, But why do you need the balancing system? What will happen if you just run two pipes all the way? -
Totally agreed! Hey DarkSTi.... Think you could get me a bigger copy? I want this as my wallpaper! EDIT: Don't worry, I found the bigger one on your site!.. BTW, nice set of pictures...

The under hood fuel pump is up by the windscreen (windsheild) wiper motor. But it sounds like you don't have it. I have noticed these sorts of thing between Aus models and US models... Good luck with your problem, sorry I can't be of more use.

Hmm, weird. My brothers 83 wagon has a pump by the tank and one under the hood. The one under the hood ticks for a bit then slows down and only ticks every so offen. But that's how it is suppose to work. The one near the tank just runs all the time. You may have bad wiring which is only giving you a very low volt reading. Or it could be a relay. Best thing to do is get a relay off another EA81 and try it to see if that works. Just the usual troubleshooting stuff.

what exactly does pearl do to paint?
Phizinza replied to ironhydroxide's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
This is what I know Pearl paint to be. You can apply pearl paint in different ways. You can either apply it into the paint you are going to use, or you can put it in the clear coat. I think when you put it in the clear coat it acts more like what I would call Pearl, it shines up from only sertain angles. If you put it in the colored paint I think it doesn't shine up so much. Although, some of the pearl paints you see, just say, on ebay don't all act like this. They are sometimes just a "candy" color. This is a color you mix in with the clear coat and is see throughable. So you want to have a nice paint under neth, just say an aluminium colored paint. Or you can paint it over air brushed flames, ect. I was told pearls don't go so well over dark surfaces. But they can make the dark surface look much shinyer, and sparkly. Just my 2 cents. -
Pretty sure its 12v. Both our EA81's have loud fuel pumps (the rear one, not the one under the hood) Once the car is running you can't hear them though. I wouldn't think they'd put a volt regulator in for the pump, doesn't seem sensible.

Not keen on the joining of the pipes. Flow would suffer. But they do sound nice huh.. ? -
Not bad. I would of done the flairing different, but still cool. I wonder how legal it is...?

Theres plenty of info on the EJ22's around here. Basiclly, your trans should hold up to a EJ22 N/A. If you like dumping the clutch, then maybe you should concider collecting old transmissions.

Clutch Cable Snapped... Yikes!
Phizinza replied to Seahag1978's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Those fords are big... See some every so offen here in Aus. Makes our lanes look small. Good to hear you got the car home alright. One interesting question though, did he start the car in 1st or did he start it in neutral, and if neutral, how'd he get it in gear? -
are EA82T & EA82 same trans?
Phizinza replied to gunslinger's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
From what I know you can put a EA82T on the 4sp, 5sp, auto, manual transmissions. Putting the 5sp in the brat requires that you use the EA82 propshaft (the shaft that connects the rear diff to the trans.) And you need to weld the bearing thing onto the brat's body as well, seems the 5sp's propshaft is a two piece type. Although, if the drive off the engine has a different spline count, you can always use you EA81 flywheel and clutch, right? -
Is that one of those wires that when you plug it in your car magicly has more speed... RICER... Sorry, I can't help you, as my manual doesn't cover EFi subies Although, my brothers turbo timer on his Mazda is just wired into the ignition I think. It has a pass thru setup on the "ignition on" wire and a it must have a wire on one of the other wires to detect when the key is turned off. I really need a turbo car so I can learn what all that turbo talk is...

What a night..Project Cheap *Almost* gets stolen
Phizinza replied to DrKrazy's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Good to hear your Roo is fine, and your other Roo is fat. I gotta wire up a kill switch on my subie, you could prolly start it with a spoon. But I also have $600 of very carriable items in my ute too. So something to help me lock that car would be good... Maybe I need some laser cut locks. Although then you can just get a 2 meter rod of something and stick it thru the window to put the oppsite lock button... He prolly went for Project Cheep because it is to old to have an alarm (most likely), and it looks cool and more then its worth. You just need a taser in the seat with a button. When they sit in the seat they get a 10000volt shock on their a$$... I'm sure you wouldn't need the dog barking then, plenty of noise from the theif. -
Cool hatch. This reminds me I have to do some video editing... With the water crossing, you were really slow down the hill then you just stepped on it thru the water. From my expiriance, heading slowly thru the water is better then fast, I kept getting water in my dissy. But it didn't look like you had any probs. Prolly cos those huge tyres. (I only run 27's with a 2" lift.) Anyway, looks like it was fun. So, whadda ya doing next weekend? and the weekend after that, and then again, again... lol, I should get out for some offroading more, but its so hard to find decent mud here.

New placing for the radio in the Brat.

I just put in my brothers Fusion Amp and one of his Pioneer subs. Man this thing is loud. In a custom box behind the seat BTW. -
need 1 new ring, Is there a simple way?
Phizinza replied to GREENSUBIE's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
After testing the compression "dry" use a little oil down the spark plug hole and test it again "wet". I actually don't remember how what means what, so look it up.
