Very stupid opinion???!!!!!......or truth
Phizinza replied to bella's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I think Subaru were the first to do the FWD/4WD on the fly system. But I think AUDI were the first to do AWD... but its not like subaru said 'hey, they done it like that.' And if you say Subaru stole it from VW, where would you put Porsche? Didn't Porsche design the flat four? And seems VW was so closely related (with the bug being designed by Porsche engineers.) They don't steal designs, they buy them. Yet its pretty amazing how Subaru is one of the only manufacturers that doesn't share there body designs with any other company. Makes them more unque, also being flat engined and all. Stealing isn't the case, buying and improving is. -
who's that dis'n the Justy?!
Phizinza replied to RallyJusty's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I was messing around in my Brat yesterday, going thru water upto the door seals. It wasn't running quite right cos water in the disty, cleaned it out and still running rough. Found out why a bit after two runs thru the water. Only running on three, lead off number 1 cyl. lol. 3cyl engines go hard enough! GO the 4x4 Justy!!! I wish I had one. -
How would you build the perfect sleeper?
Phizinza replied to Jack in Norfolk's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Normally sleepers look stock, and go like hell! But my idea would be good for a laugh I think. People would just be laughing and laughing.... Then the light turns green. -
here in australia we got the Brumby (Brat) up until 94. Although we only got 4x4 EA81's (from 81 to 94) no 2x4 (never even thought they maid 2x4.) i hear the EA71 is quite good with power. But EA81 will be better. And should fit right in. custom 2 or 2.5 inch exhuast should be nice. weber with a pod filter would be good too. Then theres big changers that can be done. Like EA82t, EJ2xbut they all require extensive wiring loom modification.

my lifted subaru always makes me late...
Phizinza replied to archemitis's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Most people look at my ute, and the young people look twice. Maybe its the sound, maybe its the look. I dunno, but I like it. -

85 model wagon, STI EJ25T, STI drivetrain, 2.5" pipe to the back with a 5" tip (so they can't even recinise the sound,) Make a body kit, spoiler, hood scoop, all out of cardboard your self. Paint the body with house paint and put numbers on it with all sorts of stickers that have "NOS", and "HKS", "APEXI". Then, you have one perfect sleeper, no one will know. And they will prolly even give you a go just to laugh at you. Any thoughts? EDIt: Oh, and painted red stock steelies! -
Things maybe looking up finally.
Phizinza replied to TheSubaruJunkie's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Gotta love that orange hand cleaner huh? I used it to degrease my axle after pulling it out (it was coved in engine oil because my exhaust stud was leaking -some of you may remember that horra I had- ) So the pistons in the N/A blocks are different to turbo ones? Are you going to run the turbo? I haven't really been following your posts about ur RX junkie, sorry if I missed anything. So you'll have it running before friday then? -
ea81 coupe vs ea81 sedan - some details please
Phizinza replied to Phizinza's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Hmm, I haven't noticed that. Thanks for the info tho, Now I will know to only get Brat doors if I ever need to replace one of mine. I would like to know the weight as I would like to make a classic rally car with one of them. And would like to know if the coupe is significantly lighter. I imagine it would be much easier finding a sedan here in Aus though. I was planning to use the engine out of my brat. Its the dual carb model, so it has better flow heads and the dual carbs of cause. But I am still thinking on it. I might have to spend an ULTRA amount of money for a rollcage as you can only race in particular rally's if you have a rollcage that is built by pros. Anyway, not 100% sure on it all right now. Just looking at my options. -
Why do *YOU* prefer old gens?
Phizinza replied to Syonyk's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I don't know if anybody else picked up on this but... EA81's are push rod engines. Not chain driven cams. Only one cam and its in the middel of the engine. Then there are the rocker assembliy on the heads and rods (push-rods) go between the cam and the rockers. I like the fact my ute looks cool, sounds cool, and cheap vs a new gen. I don't like how it seems to be gutless. -
leveling out a gen 2 brat (front end only lift)
Phizinza replied to 75subie's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I think you would only need 1" blocks. You could try loserning the torsion bar, but that would be worse for offroad. -
I heard the Vortex (XT, XT4) uses the same running gear as the L-series. But I also heard Vortex's have air shockers on the rear, I think you can just put normal ones in no worries. So, I'm pretty sure you would be able to use wagon shocks in the XT. _________ little Brat http://www.offroadingsubarus.com

Yes I know, it needs some new wheels. Yeah, it would be cool if I could do it for real, but at the moment I don't have the money or tools.

Anyone know the weight of the two? -
Power mods, how much power per mod
Phizinza replied to ausubaru92's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Don't forget mods can preduce more power if other mods are on as well. As in, if you put a pod filter on you may get just say 3hp. If you go for exhaust you may get 7hp, but if you have both it will more likely be more then 10hp gain. As there is much better flow right the way thru the engine. I dout you'd get more then 10hp from a pod filter and a 2 and a half inch pipe though. You would probably want to do a port and polish, though this costs an arm and a leg. And doing it your self is a bad idea as it needs to be the right finish What I would like to do to a EA81 is put in a stroker kit and maybe use the SUB4 dual port in and out heads. But thats just dreaming. _________ little Brat www.offroadingsubarus.com -

Can anyone tell me where I can find a EA82 hatch? I've been looking everywhere and I can't find one... Hahaha, just kidding! I have completed the the conversion that a lot of you asked for. Here is what one would of looked like I reckon. http://www.offroadingsubarus.com/concptea82hatch.html Hmm, there goes three hours.

That looks like one fun mustang... pitty NOS is completely illegal here. The only way you can move it in cars legally is if its not "installed" and you have a sign saying something like "Flammable Gas" on the front and back of your car. I have a feeling NOS is how that outlaw armish guy got 150hp out of his EA81 N/A ________ little Brat www.offroadingsubarus.com

Maybe its the oil you use? Though it sounds like you have experience so I dout you would use the wrong oil. __________ little Brat http://www.offroadingsubarus.com

funky electrical issue, any ideas?
Phizinza replied to Meeky Moose's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
ditto -
I have heard of doing this too. When I asked if I needed to re-torque my gaskets I was told by one that he take an extra step (you know, three steps, 29nm, 59nm and 64nm) beond the 64nm and goes to 70 to 75nm. I can see it might hold the gasket together better. But I have the feeling it might also weaken the gasket because of it being under more load then it was designed for. So far I haven't had to replace a blown gaskets, only had to replace them because of the stupid exhaust studs. ________ little Brat www.offroadingsubarus.com

Got a little something for you........
Phizinza replied to 4WDFrenzy's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Maybe he means if a "RHB5 being an RHB5,no matter what housings you have" you wouldn't bother getting a Thunderbird turbo because it would be the same as the one you already have? I am pretty sure you can't just change the rotor out of a thunderbird turbo into a mx6 turbo, you need the housing too. But I'm not sure, just going on what my brother read on mx6.com -
Got a little something for you........
Phizinza replied to 4WDFrenzy's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I'm not too big on turbos but my brother owns a 88 TX5 turbo Telstar (MX-6, probe gt, all the same) He says a lot of people put the thunderbird air snail on there exhaust snail because it has better flow (more flow, or quicker pickup flow, or something like that.) So you are saying the subaru wrx turbo uses the same internals as the mx6 turbo? That might explain why my bros telstar flies! I really don't understand what I'm on about. lol. -
Subaru Exhaust Question
Phizinza replied to shawnsbrat's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Yeah, I should of got some pics of my heads when they were off, seems in the year I've owned them I've taken the left one off 3 times and the right off once you would expect I would of remembered to take photos. Not to worry. I'm sure the exhaust studs will fail again and I will need to take them off again! NICE SETUP!!!! wow, I can only dream (and have been dreaming for months) of that setup... I WANT! lol. Just seeing a setup like that in person would do for me, pitty no one here has one maybe I should get into planes... As for the exhuast out the side looks better, but you have less ground clearance next to the tyre. shouldn't really be a problem I would think. How about out behind the front tyre? hehe -
Subaru Exhaust Question
Phizinza replied to shawnsbrat's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Do you mean dualport as in the SUB4 or RAM engines EA81 dual port http://ramengines.com/db4/00320/ramengines.com/_uimages/intakeheads.JPG Or do you mean the original (rally engine) dual port EA81 (one inlet, one outlet with a divider in it)? Or maybe one of the EA81 Turbo's? I get so confused around EA81's these days. Too many different things on different models and years... I have the second. It uses 1" and 3/4" pipe out of the heads and 2" pipe all the way to the back. But I am guessing you have the RAM EA81 heads which are just REALLY SWEET. On a stock EA81 I think the best size was two and a half inch. Bigger the better, if you don't mind that rumble -
Those are sweet tyres. I like the wheels too Nice looking setup. And good offset. _____________ The little brat, http://www.offroadingsubarus.com
