theres a guy he, forgot his nick name, but his real name is John Bloom. he makes cool bumpers and lift kits for OB's. Also AA does a lift, and Ozfield might.

Ok... then its 142AMPS at 28volts.... you would prolly want to run it off a old 24v or 32volt 'generator'... And seems those old things arnt up to much, you'd be fillin your bonnet with generators... well, unless you can find a truck alternator. maybe a 24v one would be easy to find. Still it might be hard to find a 142amp one... I can't see how they would be good for driving tho. Unless your driving a jet powered car, you just don't need to see that far infront !

Will 2 different size tires affect 4WD in the snow?
Phizinza replied to 211's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
175/70/R13's is 22.6inch dia 185/70/R13's is 23.2inch dia 175/70/R13's is 97.5% of the dia size of 185/70/R13's I'd say you'd have some fun slipery slides. I wouldn't use 4WD, you'd prolly have less traction then in 2WD -
Hemm. Sounds like something up with your dash if you have replaced the motor and still the same. You can replace the gauge display (thing with speedo and tacho) pretty easily. Or it might just be a plug on the back of the display. Also have to made sure the wires are plug onto the engine? The oil pressure goes from the oil pump upto the disty, and the over towards the battery (on EA81's anyhow, dunno about the ea82.) And the water..... umm, I dunno. gonna have to go have a look. Good to hear its up and running.

I installed the ammeter and vac gauge. All working. Though I took the amp out (the one behind the thred plate, screwed to the heater) It was a crapy amp anyhow and was startin to make some weird noises. I'm going to have to get a new amp. I plan on putting the new one under the glove box. I'll update my site then. Yay.... after 4 or so weeks I got something finished!

c'mon! we all know his engine is fried Give the man an excuse to build that turbo motor! You know you want to!

seems pretty conclusive...

total 4kW??? Ok, so avrg alternator is 55amp. 4000Watts divided by 12 volts (they run on 12volts?) = 333.3 amps... Car batteries can do about 400 cranking amps (means they can do that for about 10seconds just say, before getting damaged.) How many alternators you planning on running? Though I must say... They would be brilliant when someone is highbeaming you... :-\
-
I'm at 400 and something, and only one year in I might catch up. hehe Ooooo... I might beable to change me little (sub name???) thingy... What do you call it? Though I think what it says not stacks up with me.

So does it have a turbo? that looks just like the RX's. Did they ever make coupe loyals in the US that wern't RX's? There cool looking car's I reckon. Haven't seen one here in Aus, so unsure if they ever got here. So, you looking to buy it, or you already own it?

Cleaning a very dirty engine.
Phizinza replied to NewDriverOlderRide's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I'm guessing thats your car? My bro got his 88 Telstar's engine bay filled with mud. This mud was extremely annoying. You couldn't spray it off. You had to wipe it with a degreaser (like kerosene) and then spray. It still isn't totaly off, but got pretty close. Now, this car has electric everything. He just sprayed the whole thing. After drying the disty cap it ran, not quite smooth, but after a while it was back to normal. I am unsure if subies take to water the same. But if you don't turn it on for a few hours after while leaving it in the sun you should be fine. Just don't use a pressure cleaner, as they can blast water, and what you are trying to get off, into places you shouldn't get it... Someone also suggested leaving it on the lawn and putting a sprinkler under it for a few hours. :-\ Not good if you leave in Australia with water ristrictions. Have fun! -
? how to dyno ea82t ft4wd ?
Phizinza replied to subiemech85's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I met a guy the other day. He done a dyno on his brat. Something like 44KW in 2WD and 30KW in 4WD... Do you have AWD or 4WD? Because if your a road go'er then you'd use 2WD right? So that means you only really need to know 2WD power. Knowing 4WD power is nice too. Unless you have a AWD gearbox. In that case I think you can only run on a AWD dyno. Otherwise your car might go flying! -
That's a pro??? I love my roaring EA81dc

Easier to lift EA81 (?) EA's are simpler design, easy to work on. So much cheaper. Offroad power? If you want that shouldn't you be looking at a 4L diesel? Plus its hard to find dual range EJ's here, and impossible(...maybe not) in the USA.

exhaust gaskets, attachment
Phizinza replied to Phizinza's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Ok. Theres a problem for just about every reply here. First. I have a Dual carb motor. Bigger exhaust outlets, bigger gaskets. The gaskets I am using are like two sets of perforated tin with some gray stuff that compresses in between. I also don't have any heat shielding as I have a custom 2" pipe (1 3/4 form heads going to 2" after they join) Thanks for the help anyhow. I am going to mostlikly get a EJ and use totally different exhuast. And this engine and exhaust will go in a rally car setup classic style. So I think I might just let it leak and hope it doesn't get any worse. Thanks again. -
indeed, stock brakes would be scray. His prolly got the 5 stud wheel conversion someone here makes. I almost ripped his throat, but then I saw it was AWD... so its cool. At least it isn't just another RX2/3/4/7..... EDIT: I was just looking at the title again.... EA81 coupe? But its not even a EA81...

exhaust gaskets, attachment
Phizinza replied to Phizinza's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I gave the foil a go. Seems to still make leaking noise but I can't feel the exhaust coming out anywhere around the flanges. I think where the Y pipe joins theres a leak. I'll have to look into it more. Any other ideas? -
My bro bought two wrecks. A 82 wagon and a 83 wagon. At the moment we're fixing the 83's body and we're gonna put the 82's engine in it. I think the 82's engine has been rebuilt as the disty cap/contacts/rotor is all very new. then plugs are new. Though the clutch was stuffed, not a problem as the clutch off the 83 is almost new and is also a 225mm one. So we also swaped the flywheel. Heres the interesting thing. It comes out with 170psi on all four pistons. We're only 80m above sea level so this means the engine is running bit more then 11.7:1 compression. How do you think this was achived? Re-bored and new pistons? Ijust thought it was kinda interesting. BTW. atmospheric pressure is 14.7 psi at sea level. So 170 divided by 14.7 (make it 14.5 cos I'm not quite at sea level) makes close on 11.7 to 1 ratio. Correct me if you think that is wrong. But please explain your method.

Going where no brat has gone before.. lol
Phizinza replied to Meeky Moose's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Only it wouldn't be ugly The other thing is, if you want to stop the rust all together, you are going to need it down to every panel inside and out! The whole underneth of the car too. For me, if I were to do it, it would take a week of lots of work cleaning... But, if your up for it. It sounds great. -
Heads and Manifolds for EA82s
Phizinza replied to fangster's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
why do you want a carby? i know there simpler, but if you want performance you'd wanna go EFI. I met a guy with a EA82turbo and it seemed to go pretty hard. He used to run a EA82 MPFi and he said it was pretty good, but the turbo is heaps better. -
exhaust gaskets, attachment
Phizinza replied to Phizinza's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
so you are using foil as gasket sealent. Sounds like it might work well. I've heard of using RTV silicon, anyone done that? surly the temp of exhaust would be too much for it? -
i need advise on how is the best way to attach the exhaust to a EA81. I've got cheapo gaskets and want to make the seal good. It takes to long to get the good ones. In the pa t I've used exhaust putty that sets like concrete. But it doesn't seem to last. Any ideas?
