Hrmm... I'll have to do some ringing around I might need a new back yard first

Adam, your so lucky. I wish i had a local(ish) spot like that.. To dry here in australia

well.. I'll start with, when I said I hate this POS car (my subaru brumby in my sig) my mum and brother both say, I'll but it off you!!! :-\ I don't really mean I hate it, it just gives me the _hi_s sometimes... My brothers mate seems to like it, but he drives a 97 imp, so, that might be why. All my friends like it. I don't think anyone I've talked to didn't like it. Strange that, huh? It could be the 3" shiny rollbar/illegal tint (too dark)/or the 12" sub that sits right behind the driver. Or it might be the 27" mudders! Even the toyota guy at a local offroad spot said sometihng like "nice, is that lifted?) That was just before a mate with a 83 3"lifted wagon pulled him out of a mud hole tho. I don't care what people think, I'll run 'em over Someone did yell out "fa**ot" at me when I was driving my dads 85 stock white wagon, wish my bro was in my ute behind me, then he could show them what a real engine sounds like. Damn ricers. Sorry if any of that was a little to offencive.. :-\

White smoke exhaust

If you are going to take off your head (not yours, the engines! ) you should just have a close look at the gasket to see if it looks to be leaking. Other wise I'm pertty sure you will need to take the head off you can do that while the engine is in the car BTW. -
Jibs..... that looks so damn fun. I wish I had a play ground like that at my place, or even remotely near! I like the angle you got on that brat. Looks extreme. Anybody got instructions on how to make a place like that in your back yard???

Under the hood, under your spare tire there is the clutch lever. On the lever is the clutch cable and you'll find adjuster nuts that adjust when the clutch pedel engauges the clutch. I think you will want to screw the nuts further onto the threded rod that is part of the clutch cable. Also there should be a spring on the clutch lever that normally holds the pedel at the top most posision. This spring may have worn and your pedel might be slightly pushing on the clutch lever. Try replacing this spring or putting one of, if you don't have one. It may help your problem too. The spring is usaully pretty flimsy and doesn't need to be very strong. If its too strong it will be harder to puch the clutch pedel. So, just play around with the adjuster nuts and some springs and see if you can get it going good again. You might have to get a new clutch if the one that is in the car has been slipping much. As most things, more slipping means more ware. Good luck with it

How does so much fun come out of something that sucks so hard :-\ Out of the two wagon wrecks I got a while back (an 82 and a 83) my brother wants to build a lifted rig. So I have convinced him to do a home made 6" lift, put some 30+ inch offroad tires on and maybe some modded diff ratios. Hes all into the street seen so he has some interesting ideas with cutting the fenders (I'll talk more about that once his done it! ) Oh, me and my brother like secret plans :-\ Save your self the time, just use it for spares! Good luck with it, hope its all good.

Don't forget to take a spare car for parts! -
yeah man, just replied to it. You can fit the single head lights, it looks pertty easy to. Might take a little figuring trying to get the wiring right maybe.

Thats one sad looking brumby bad luck mate. Looks repairable at least.

I just spent 2 and a half hours changing one of my axles. I had to put new boots on the one that went in too. My brother suspects that it broke because of my want to get the car sideways. ever since I got the car back on the road, about two weeks ago, I have been taking the corner onto my street (dirt road) rather interestingly. I approach at about 55kph and stick it into second, then (the stupid part) I go almost full lock right and floor it. The last two or three times I've got some wicked sideways action. But my left outer CV joint has paid the price. Remember people, full lock on a Subaru is not a happy situation when you add full throttle... just thought I'd share my stupidity with all of you

Does yours have a LSD rear diff? Maybe thats the difference? Sorry I can't help more

I done a manual search thru all the 5 pages of the Subar Offroad forum, it wasn't there. I wonder why it doesn't have more pages where all the posts are. I guess we'll just have to stick with auto searching for old posts, not that it seems to work offen for me )

BRATrailer in Action!!! <pics inside>
Phizinza replied to DPDISXR4Ti's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I was expecting it to be the back of a Brat... Ohwell, looks useful anyhow. I'm not to sure on the sides... Might look better with alloy frame. But I guess thats a fair bit of work. Wouldn't know about the camber, I thought all brats torsion bar and held solid. -
Im with numbchux, 2.7L lot more fun then 1.8 turbo. But I hate autos!!! If you want to have fun you need a manual. So, I'd prolly go the RX. EDIT::: Then turbo it! MORE FUN!!

That's fullly sssick mate!!! but wheres the stickerrrrrrzzz!??!?!! Nah, I think its kinda cool, needs skirting all round though.

What engines are in these cars.....??
Phizinza replied to NVBigBlue's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Techincly it does have two cams. But they are only called SOHC motors. a H4 engine with DOHC has 4 cams, two over each head. Not that this means anything to the subject we're talking about anyway. Just thou8ght I'd correct you I hate autos too. I learnt to drive a auto and it was boring! I now only ever drive manuals. If your too lazy to drive a manual, I'd be worried about you on the road at all :-p;) What does your daughter like more, auto or manual? If shes not fussed about it, I'd go the manual. More reliable. -
They make tires pacifically for driving in WalMart? Sweeeeet!

try checking out pictures of lift kits for ideas. use 4mm to 5mm thick square tube. Also use a 3mm to 4mm thick round tube in the middle of the blocks big enough to fit the bolts thru them. If you are going bigger then 4" I suggest doing what most do and weld a bit of the square tubing from block to block to make it stonger. I have seen a few homemade 6" lifts, but I can't remember any addresses. Oh, try looking at SubaruBrats site. Hope that helps. P.S. my 2" lift seems to only be made out of 2mm thick square tubing :-/

Sorry, I don't know about the hoses and vac lines as I'm from australia (we have less of them) and I also have a deul carb setup (so its even more different) One question I have is. You are trying to get more power, right? How much more do you expect? I'm not sure how restrictive the stock airbox is, but one way to find out is take the airbox off and drive the car for a bit (not on dirt) then you will find out how much a better filter system will work. So you can find out if all the effort is worth it. Or if your like me and just like modding things, have fun! Or you can fab up something like I showed you on page 2, just would need to get rid of all those pipes and stuff. I know theres a way of doing it, some one was talking about it on here, dunno who tho sorry. -
We did have a "Ultimate Snorkle thred", but it apears this forum deletes only slightly old posts Remember, PVC pipe is made for water to run thru it without leaking. If you use the glue I think it will be air tight . . . I do agree, the PVC is only a pratical snorkel, doesn't look real sweet. Use your imagination, it comes up with some cool idea's sometimes #1 pic #2 pic

You forgot BYB in Australia, it seems to be a fair bit cheaper then Scorpion. You could always make yourself one if you know how to weld. Problem there is I figured it to cost $250 to $300 Aus$ for the parts needed. One ready to go in only costs $400 Aus$'s. Where abouts are you?

newbee needs help with an 86 stock brat!!
Phizinza replied to ecu_pirate_brat's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
For me it isn't "how fast do I want to go" its "how quick do I want to get to that speed" Think about it, whats more fun, driving 120mph, or getting to 60mph in 6 seconds? I've seen a few subies with super charges. Well, I've seen one in person, and I've heard of another. the one a saw was in a buggy with a EA82t (with out the turbo, and the fuel injector spots welded up.) I can imagin that would be fun. So, I'm not sure about all of you, but acceleration is my drug. I don't suggest trying to mod out the EA81, its just not worth the money EJ engines are the go. All you need is an adapter plate and it fits right on the older style gearboxes. The hard thing for some people is the wiring loom. But theres so much writin up about the swap on this forum. And if you have any problems, just post a msg!
