Well so far I only plan on speanding money on the engine, a Megasquirt ECU, and some injectors. The rest IO can make up as I go along. Oh and a turbo somewhere along the way. Its turned into not so much the money or power. But more of, can I do it. And this'll be fun I think my idea will work. Now I need to prove it!
-
I'm going to buy a EA81 and experiment with it... Now I just have to find a cheap running one.
-
Too easy. Plus I like the pushrod engines. My next thought. How about drilling injector holes into the heads? I think i need a dismantled EA81 to continue this project.
-
Yeah, I read that the MPFI was totaly different. So MPFI heads have holes for the injectors? Like spark plugs have? Only prolly before the valve right? It would be nice getting some EA81T heads, but I dont like my chances. I was thinking if the timing was just right the modded manifold would work. But as you say, how good can you get the timming. I might ask on the Megasqurit forum if it would be possible.
-
Well. Number one reason for wanting to do this, more power on the road. Number two reason, I have fun modifing stuff . Number three reason, I love the sound of my engine . Number four reason, it wouldn't cost a whole lot. I have thought about just getting a EA82T, or a EA81T, and deffenatly thought about the EJ22 (have heard its hard to get the car thru TransportSA tho. But I just love the good ol' EA81's. EDIT* So you are saying theres no such thing as a fuel injectored N/A EA82 here in Australia? I'm thinking the easiest thing to do would get a SP carb manifold, mod it to take two injectors right near the heads. And find a throttle body that i canb fit to the bit the carb normally goes on. Sounds like a lot of fun, god knows if its in my possiblity, but I can always learn. Oh and use a Megasqurit or the like ECU. Any thoughts on that?

Hrmm, yeah, just found his turbo spfi post then. im looking at it now
-
Maybe he got a little too excited with the turbo (vrooommm, screech, bang. ) I can't find anybody by the name TURBOSPFI on this forum, searched the Members, but no go...
-
Ok. First thing. Does the SPFI off a EA82 fit onto a EA81? (i figured MPFI wont already ) Second thing. Will I be able to put a turbo on the N/A SPFI ECU? Thrid, will putting a turbo on my EA81 lower offroad performance at all? Fourth, I asume the only stock turbo'd EA82's were MPFI? After getting my 27" tyres I am having trouble going the speed "i want to go" on the roads. So I thought adding a turbo to the mix might help. Oh and one other thing, I'm running twin hitachi carbs. So will the SPFI be as good as twin carbies? Thanks

you could get a stick and messure the ruts before trying them out.. Or you could just have fun in the mud!

I know how you feel ckappler. I had to buy a different clutch then the normal one for a EA81 (I think because there was 2 or 3 different types for that engine) Then I had to get a totally different thrust bearing to go with it, because the one it came with was the same as the old one I had which wore the clutch fingers all wrong. But after all that. I have a wonderful clutch. At least my local shop knows what a EA81 and a EA82 is. And it is writen in there books as well as the car age and name. Maybe just keep trying... :-/

I agree 100% :grin::grin:

The RX, before, during, and after.

I told you it could be fixed... See! It looks like new again! Nice job with welding it up. Still drives straight? -
And whats the point in using a subaru as a rally car if its only RWD? :-\ Next question is... How much power can a 5spd EA82 trans take? I'm thinking the WRX AWD trans is a must have with over 250hp...
-
Alrighty. That's more like it. This car would be my project car so it can take a while to do. But, now coming to think about it, maybe I should pick a smaller motor just for waight reasons. My plan is to build a rally XT. I would like 250 to 300hp and much more NM's. So maybe a halfcut WRX would be the choice. So, I'm guessing I should upgrade the suspension. But should I just use WRX (or WRX aftermarket) or standard XT (or aftermarket XT) or should I go all out and weld up support for real rally suspension? I will also be installing a rollcage. Not sure I'f I will be the one welding it up as you can't race legally here in australia unless your rollcage passes CAMS (the australian racing commity) I'm just pretending that the budget is bottomless at the moment to get an idea of what to do. And, yes, I am suicidel...

Thats all well and good to say. But I know you can make anything fit in anything. Would someone be able to answer my questions more definatively?
-
Just say when I get my XT (most likly to be a EA82T) What are my chances of fitting a EG33 in? Will I have to find a new place for the radiator? Will I need to widen the engine bay? How easy is it to fix a EG33 to a EJ AWD trans? On another note, should I just retrofit the whole car with WRX suspension? Or keep the EA driveshafts and suspension? See, I was thinking, there isn't any difference between a XT and a XT6 (?) So surly if a ER27 fits in a EG33 would with out moving the radiator. Am I wrong on this? Thanks.

twin hitachi fuel mixture settings
Phizinza replied to Phizinza's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
remember that the screw is most likely just an idle mixture screw. -
What it should of looked like.

The pictures I showed are of Suzuki MightyBoy's. The tray top one is a custom job. But with Toyota Hilux's (sometimes called Toyota 4x4's) they can come from the factory like this. Also our local manufactures in Australia (ford and holden) do a tray top version of there utes (just a ute version of there sedans, falcon and commerdor.) Its quite a commen thing here is Australia, don't know where else it is done. -

Sorry, but I can't help. I'm just going to stick with, it works, leave it alone. It would be good to find a manual for the carbies I got, but how to find out what carb they are is beond me. -

Haha. I would, but if you remember what i said about if subaru made one of these they would have to give me one as theres no way in hell I could aford it. Cutting u cars is fun, when you are doing a good job of it! A normal ute looks like this one A tray top looks like this Its basicly a tray made out of alloy. -
I changed the spark plugs the other day and noticed they were rather dark and had small buildups. Not enough to do damage, but enough to say I'm running a little rich. I found the screws but not sure how much or which way to turn them. Logic tells me I should screw them in (screw in like a tape makes gap inside smaller and less fuel flow.) So, How far should I go? (Keeping in mind its not running rich enough to damage the plugs.) And am I right about the direction? Thanks people.

cool... That brat is turning into a wicked offroad machine. Tho I do like to keep the interior clean in mine... And they would prolly be completely illagel in Australia.
-
Subarubrat told me they are flares for a 4x4 Toyota, made by "Bushwacker" I think. They will cost about $200 to $300 USD for a set of four, and they need modifying to make them fit with the doors.

Well, It felt like about 45 degree's in the car, so I said 35 on my post. I think I'm about 10 degree's out because of a photo my bro took when I was going down a "40 to 45 degree angle!" and the photo showed it was less then 35.... So I'm trying to make up for the exageration.
