  1. Hey thanks guys.. I think I'll drain the oil and take that stud out tomorrow and fix this leak. I am suprised that this is what it is, and that people have had it before. But I guess if you put a oil jacket that close to the stud, its bound to happen.
  2. Well... It looks like getting air is a bad idea, unless you have spares handy. I know there tough over rocks and that, I have grounded mine twice in the 6 to 7 hours of offloading I have done with it. And one of those times was on a horrid rock, put a dent in a bit of the under body frame on the right hand side of the car. Anyway. Another question, with 27" tires and 2" lift (see my car in my sig) what do you think the maximum angle is I could get it before it would rollover. I had it at what i would call about 35 to 40 degree's with a passenger. And the passenger (my brother) was freaking out... Any idea? Thanks guys.
  3. I'm not sure what's going to do damage and what's not. Like, is getting air going to do damage (how much is ok on the suspension?) Post some pictures of what subies can do and what the can't do (like pic's of it getting air and say, every thing was fine after. And pics of subies hit rocks, getting air and saying, it didn't make it.) Anyone know what they can take. Or more to the point, what my 2" lifed not much rust at all with 27" mud tires Brat can take.
  4. I have been cleaning my car today. I degreased the heads again and to m surprise it looks like the rocker cover is not leaking! But it could be worse, there’s still oil dripping on the exhaust. I had to put inserts into my head for the exhaust studs as two on one head and one on the other striped more then 50% of the thread out of the heads. But now I fear that I have broken through somewhere where I shouldn't have with the insert. Is this even possible? How would I go about fixing this? Silicon in the insert? Thanks.
  5. I've looked at the head.. Nothing looks amiss. It also feels fine. I'm going to try the silicon again, maybe find some of this fujibond, or somthing like it. Anymore idea's? I don't want this post to stop here! Damn, you guys have almost got my hopes up again...

    Funny WRX pic.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA.. in the link posted before theres a video. In the video the guy says blah blah blah intercooled flat-six... hahaha.. its a 2.5L flat-four durr! That's what it says in the text!

    Funny WRX pic.

The angle on the STi doesn't suit the ground at all.. It looks photochoped to me. EDIT: I mean the car isn't in that picture, but it sure did have that mud on it.
  8. UPDATE: Read post #5 please. Thank you. I posted about this before. Please don’t be put off by the size of the tread and just read on, Thanks. My rocker cover leaks. I have tried a new gasket, silicon and non hardening sealant, grinding the rocker cover so it doesn’t touch the exhaust outlets. I have tried tight, lose, and in the middle with the bolts. (I have put it on 5 times so far) Now, I have gone out and bought another rocker cover. It looked good, no curves no bends, straight as straight gets. I also got another new gasket for it. I fit it on with the “non hardening sealant” and it leaks just the same as the other. When it started to leak I pulled both of them off and cleaned them up. I adjusted the tappets. Then put them both back on with the sealant, the one that wasn’t leaking is fine. The one that was started to leak more. Then more, more more more! Well, it leaks about a drop every 2 seconds and goes straight onto the exhaust (lotsa smoke!) So. Now that I have tried 5 times, and failed, with my brother and dad watching over me and saying “yeah, that’s right.. That’s how you do it… what do you mean it still leaking???” Our family has always done there own repairs. I have got to the point where I am happy to leave it leaking. I just want to make up guards so it doesn’t leak onto the exhaust or spray onto the CV boot like it is. What I would like to know is, Why is it leaking, and why can’t I stop it? Its leaking at the bottom of the cover, right next to the exhaust port. I know its leaking from the rocker cover because when I take the cover off I see oil all over the gasket where it was dripping out the oil. (please don’t ask “you sure its not leaking out the top?”, because I know where its leaking, Thank you) So. Can anyone answer my question? Should I just live with it for a year and then drop in a ej22? Just putting 500ml’s of oil every 100km… Thank for any help you give.
  9. Hey Brumby Boy. What size are you getting? You don't have lift, nah thats obvius, why'd i ask? :-\. So, I think you should try getting some tyres for them to be 24" to 25" total size. That would look sweet. My 27" mudders are rubbing on the front when I turn full lock, but don't appear to be doing damage, I just need to do some hammering I still gotta do something on my site about those, but I still am trying to redesign it so I have a Subaru site as well as my other one. Oh well, I'll get around to it soon. Good luck with those wheels! (oh and btw, are they $220 each or all together?)
  10. Hey McBrat. I have some 14" Sunraysia's that arn't on that site. I see them a lot around here in Australia so I though you might want to add them to the page. Just grab a picture off my site http://webmaster.beverleypaine.com.
  11. As you asked Brumby Boy Sorry there a little patchy, but I wasn't going to spend too much time with them . My pick of the two. And.... I just don't like that style at all :-\ They would be about 15" to 16" sized rims. What do you think now people?
  12. I was thinking maybe go kart racing in the early years? starting at 6 or so. Then get her into a WRX rally car when shes 15 or so. First female WRC champ in your hands? Nah, what ever she wants (horses and stuff mostlikely.) Congratz mate.
  13. Defiantly the bottom. I degreased the engine and you can see it coming out of the bottom. I done some measuring on the rocker cover and gasket. On the rocker cover you know that lip that holds the gasket so it doesn't just squeeze out? Well on the bottom of the rocker cover that lip is 0.5mm taller. And there’s a chance it’s not squeezing the gasket enough because it’s touching the exhaust outlet... The gasket does look less shaped on the bottom then the top. I have an idea, grind down that lip on the rocker cover 1mm or so and bolt the whole thing back together. Bad idea? I think the other side mustn’t have this problem on the rocker cover. And I think if I had a thicker gasket (the one I got is a 5.5mm one) maybe this wouldn't be a problem. So I'm guessing GLCraigGT might be right with the elcheapo gasket idea. Doesn't explain how an older thinner gasket was only leaking a little till I took the cover off. But maybe this might work. So is grinding a couple of mm of the cover a bad idea?
  14. I tried it by the manual. 3 - 5 nm... It didn't work, same amount of oil leaking out. And as for the gasket. I'm using a old, shrunken one of the other side... Works fine, no leaks. BTW, I have taken off and put on the rocker cover 4 times in different ways. Same thing everytime, same amount of oil leaking out. I thought maybe it was a cracked head. But you can see the oil leaking out around the rocker cover and the head has no cracks!
  15. I'll start from the top. About a month ago I noticed a leak on my engine. It was coming from the left rocker cover (if you look at the engine from in front of the car it would be on your right side.) I pulled both rocker covers off and adjusted the tappets. I put the rocker covers back on with the original gaskets (not too good looking) and I used gasket silicon to help. I did the bolts up to about 15nm to 25nm. The one that wasn't leaking is fine. The one that was started leaking pretty bad, about 3 drops ever 5 seconds once warmed up. It appears to be only leaking out the bottom of the rocker cover. I pulled it off and cleaned up the cover, put a new gasket in and used non-setting gasket goo and it still leaked. I tried doing the bolts up at 5nm and 25nm... Still leaking. (Each time cleaning the cover and new gasket and re applying silicon, gasket goo, and the works!) Still leaking. I just pulled the rocker cover off again. The head it smooth, the cover is flat... Nothing looks wrong! Any ideas on what I can do. I'd like to fix it today as I have planed on going offloading tomorrow... Help please. Thanks!
  16. If its still running sweet. Don't scrap the engine.. You can use it in something like the other post said!
  17. I thought about what it would do to your gear ratio. I think cos its only running only little wheels (the bit that puts the power from the hub to the track) it would make it very low gearing. Great for offroad by the looks of it. But I like the challenge of wheels. And I also don't want to visit the bank this week! Looks like a great idea tho.
  18. Or not... Have you seen a "after" shot? Hahaha Heres the latest, and first offroading I've done. Thats the camera man in the way... (got some funny footage of that trip) Its not moving... Oh no....... I got it stuck. I had to jack the left side up and pull out the rocks that it was sitting on. Then I done that same thing in a different place 3 hours later! ahahaha
  19. I have to say I'm a Sebastian Loeb fan... But I think he would do excelent in a new subie
  20. I think its the same as the Brat.. The torsion bars have been made to get more height on the back. If you set the front to full height and the back to full height you will see the prop shaft it straight. I think this is how they where intended to ride. Most people get 4x3” lifts.. that means the life the front of the body 4” and the rear 3” so it levels it out without having soft suspension in the rear. Just my 2 cents.
  21. I think you may like A/T's (all terrain) There men't for the road and off the road. I'd say some where around the 24" diameter? So if ur on 13" wheels you would be looking for something about 175/80R13's? As for brand.... Try checking out the top brands websites. They sometimes give detailed description of the sidewall and all that. I'm now running new Kuhmo 27x8.5x14's on my 2" lifted brat. I had to do some fender trimming and they rub a little when I turn full lock. I still haven't wrote of a article about this (redesigning my site) So I'd say 24" fit no worries... That's all I can say really. (oh and these Kuhmo 27" M/T's rock! Still slip around in the mud, but they grip and its fun when they do!)
  22. I'm not 100% sure this would be a good idea but I would try to be ultra smoth with the razor blade not worrying if i don't get it back to bear metal. Then I would use 200-800 grit "wet and dry" (mostlikly using it wet) to clean up t e surface. use a block of wood thats straight with the wet and dry so not to round the edges of the head/block surface. But as I said... i'm not sure if this is a good idea or not.
  23. It was great. Only done a few hours of offroading. Got stuck twice, but all in good fun. i got 20mins of video I might be able to get 30seconds of good stuff out of it. I'm a little bit bored of driving, but i'm getting over that now. 1500km in 5 days isn't what i call fun, but the 4 - 6 hours of offroad was a blast... Just have to learn about the car a bit more. i'll post about it soon with picys.
  24. Sorry I haven't emailed earlier, but I've been on a offroad holiday I got a lot to learn about offroading! like how much ground clearance I have! I emailed the Subaru guys again (using the link just up this page a bit, hope they reply) I watch WRC and some of the Australian rally. I used to drive like a bat outta hell on the local dirt roads, but after rolling my brothers car I've slown down a tad :-/. I live about 80K's south of adelaide (South Australia) Hahaha, with about 10mins of looking you could get my address off the internet now... (I betta be nice to every one, don't want anybody coming after me, or my subie!)
