No doubt EA81's are the schnizzles Can't wait to get my dualie idf webers on mine.. Love this truck..

Ahh, yeah bad clutches can be a pita especially when you need to go home in that car. Not to hi-jack but this is a video from my first racing, not quite like autocross... Its good to watch through the videos then you can see where you need to improve

Heres the gear specs. The 5sp is much nicer to shift gears in. Has a better shifter mechanisim that doesn't wear out so fast and badly, and is better on fuel for slower city driving because you don't use 2nd so much instead you can use 3rd and get good torque. Its all up to you though. Make sure you update us on here with the result from this VW/Subaru swapsie!

Does the EA-81 have the power to push a 5 speed?

My wagon with 14" pugs with 26" tires!

They look pretty good in bright white like that... I like it. -
You do know that Subaru's are a uni body and thus have no chassis per say? Do you mean just use all the suspension and running gear? The 5sp can me bolted to the EA81, but you need to have an EA81 with 225mm version clutch (84 onwards I believe) and you will need the EA82's (what the 5sp comes from) friction plate. Then you will need to space the starter motor 4 to 6 mm out from the gearbox, I just used two washers and it works great. Yes, EA81 and EA71 are the same. Although some EA71's I believe had a top centre mount starter motor and they don't interchange I think.

My 83 leone has 193K kilometers Thats 120K miles -
First run started pretty slow but you were getting faster though it. I would of personally used more revs. Some of the corners it sounded like you dropped blow 2500rpm. More revs gives more grip around hard corners. Keeping the revs between 3000 and 5000 should help I would think. Also shifting down before corners so the revs are high and powering around the corner (remember not to brake at all while turning in all the braking should be done before the turn at all) should give you some better speeds. And it will feel much better. Otherwise for a first run its pretty good. I'd love to have a car I could go to an autocross with. Someday soon I will I hope.

good stuff. I've been using the handbrake while in 2wd to get more traction around the paddock. Lazy me thought I'd be able to do it easy without 4wd. Works a treat and I can imagine separating them would be much better.

have a read of this thread that is still on page 1 http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=97959

No tyres small enough here in Australia with a decent construction and tread to fit one our non-lifted wagon. See, we're in s***-box class so the car has to be valued by a 3rd party as under $1500. Big wheels and tyres with lift would probably push us into open class and then we'd be up against

I've looked for bead locks, but they don't back them for 14" rims and tyres.
-
we done it again... This time not so high, and not so much to fix. Gotta figure out how to keep those tyres on the rims though. They were at 35psi and still getting pushed off. Slowly finding the next weakest link in this car and fixing it. Had fun anyway and came 3rd. Beat some pretty gnarly huge trucks with v8's and 36" + tyres so can't complain.. Go Subaru!

thanks bobaru I'll send them an email jez, if you could have a look that would be great. I'm willing to send some cash your way for it. If you find it send me a pm or email.

Probably not the right place to post, but... I need some parts for a Weber 32/36 DGV/DGEV. I need the choke. I've looked a lot of places here in Australia but prices for these carbs and parts prices is THROUGH THE FREAKIN ROOF. So I need the choke levers, rods, butterflies, electric thingo etc. If you can help or know of a place in the states that might be able to help me let me know please

Ok... So I know the Outback struts give suspension lift to Legacy's. But is this just height or do the shock absorbers travel further as well? Where to the Impreza struts come in? Similar to Liberty? Oh, just thought I'd add also I put it here because to me this is more to do with offroading (suspension travel, height etc).

You have me all wrong, where did I say I think people waste money on lift kits? I never (I don't think?) did. What I was saying is why do people get all pricky about their lift kit because I don't have one? I don't care what you have or why you have it. I'm annoyed at people that care about what I have and in turn get defensive of their choice. Sorry if this wasn't clear. I can't see how you missed that point but sorry.

I guess when you don;t have ATV trails within 1000km of your place you don't need to worry about this... Look, I have very few places I can 4wd. And most of them I've been to more then a few times. I know what I can drive over and I know what I can't. I've never been left behind because of my Subaru not making it somewhere because here you can go around it. Not that I'm usually the one to go around the stuff, I'll give it a crack. I'm fine with you wanting/needing a lift.. Why are you going on and on about why you need the lift at me? I know you might need/want it, I don't care. What I care about is people going on and on at me on why they need it when the only places they have driven are where I have driven.
-
Its similar here, but with a few more rules. The thing is they do care here. I know a guy who had a 2" body lift and the suspension adjusted all the way up. The defected on the suspension saying it was adjusted to high and was dangerous, they didn't seem to mind about the body lift.. But I know people who have been defected by a 3" body lift (2" is maximum allowed). Also they get you for tyres. Here in the state of South Australia I think it is anything 15mm over original OD is illegal wheels that widen the track more then 20mm are too. Of course that makes all those 14" Desert Rat wheels we have here illegal and the tyres I run are illegal too. But I run on the method of making it look neat and tidy keeps you out of trouble. I know I could run a 2" lift no worries, but why. Its only 2" and I've already got the tyres fitted. I'll only gain bumper clearance, so I don't see a point to it in my car.

I have seen those videos. I know I'm boring but I wouldn't take a Subaru through what they take them through and how they take them through it. I like slow crawling, and in that terrain you just can't go slow in a Subaru. I never said that everywhere in the world doesn't need a lift, just I don't. And a Subaru with a 4" lift and 29" tyres would last as long as you go drive on the road without seeing a cop here. I spent it on a nice PC, steering wheel, joystick, and decent headphones. I can play GTA, CMD, COD4, COD5, HL2, Fallout 3, etc etc quiet happliy. As well as design in CAD, edit video, create websites, surf the net, play music, print, edit photos, chat to friends and family etc all on the one machine. And when I get a large TV I'm able to plug it into that and do all of that on a nice large screen with a wireless keyboard and mouse that cost bugger all for a PC. Enjoy the terrain you have to drive on and the PS3 you have to waist those hours when its too freakin cold and wet outside. I'll enjoy my stuff while hopefully not continually being convinced I've done it all wrong and I need a PS3, a lifted Subaru and a 6 day a week job to pay for all that.

I've done the EJ thing, still wouldn't go any larger then 27" OD tyres due to the things I drive up. I don't like to take anything at speed. Everything I do I crawl over except for sand. A lift kit won't help if I stick with tyres that already fit. In the middle you still have exhaust and driveline. In the front you still have a sump and engine crossmember hanging down. And in the rear you still have your diff. I've seen a non-lifted roo with 29" OD tyres, so why lift I thought to myself and I couldn't come up with an answer. Of course for others they might want the look, or they might think its easier to buy/build a lift and install it then some simple fender cutting and some hammering. For me, I don't need one. I don't care what you run, and yea some subies with lifts look awesome like subarubrat's 12"er. But I keep getting the sense that the people who think I'm against the lift kit are defending their Subaru like I'm saying its a waist of time and money? Please do show me these trails that require a lift kit in a Subaru. I really do believe you that they exist, I just want to see them. Hate may be a strong word, but it best describes my attitude while using a PS3 controller I have played CMD, GTA4, and a couple of other games on a mates PS3 for more then a few hours. Trust me when I say I don't like PS3's and Xbox's and I never will. I know where to put my "gaming" money and I'm happy where I do put it. Zap, you seem to know it all but you don't know...
