  1. Looks like my brothers gonna upgrade to an 80 or 105 series landcruiser. The 4runner died, again.
  2. Probably not, but I only have 26.3"OD tyres (which are the limit in my mind because I need the gearing more then clearance). I don't play basketball so I can't say for sure.
  3. Yeah, lucky me getting given a free bullbar.. wasn't sure if I was going to put it on or not but its a good place to mount my 170 Light Force lights.
  4. Actually all the USMB peeps here seem pretty chill. Its more of the people I bump into in "real life" and the peeps over on AUSubaru who seem to have a problem with it. I just know if I vent here people come up with reasonable answers, unlike other places.. Its all good, I'm happy with what I have I just have gotten fed up with always answering the same questions and getting the same defensive replies from people who have lift kits or want one. Mainly I'm fed up with those "you have to have all this or it won't work" people. Hey, if you want a lift thats great for you. It does give a certain look of beefy and tough and maybe thats what does it for ya...
  5. I hate consoles... although the wii is fun. Here a 2 to 3 inch lift kit costs between $400-500 ($290-360USD). I would much prefer to spend that money on a weber, or two brand new MT tyres. Yes a lift is better then an xbox, no its not better then other things you can buy with that money (or time if you build one). That's how I see it and that is probably why people get offended, because I put it as blunt as most of the time lift kits aren't worth half their value.
  6. I agree newer gen models have terrible over hangs and would be helped more by a lift more then the older gens Since we're posting pictures, No lift, and I think it has plenty of clearance. More then a Toyota Landcruiser under the diffs. Its not like a body lift gains you much, because in the middle you still have a driveline, sump, diff, etc all at the same height as before. That's my thinking. Only front and rear suffer form no lift and I haven't had much trouble with that yet.
  7. Right, so you are posting up all these pictures of the difference. But how much difference does it really make offroad? I know the difference between my 2" lifted Brumby on tall springs vs my non lifted sedan on 2WD springs isn't much at all (I'm running same welded rear diff and MT tyres on the sedan as was on the Brumby). Sure it may look good, but does it actually help much, and is there something else you could do instead value wise? Hey, I don't care if you lift it, or if its lifted. I just can't understand why people get so defensive about their lifted Subie when I say "no, I did not need to lift it for those tyres and I wouldn't want any larger tyre".
  8. All tracks here in South Australia that you can't go around a stock subie can go over. So I only take the hard stuff my Subie can go over (which is about 95% of the choice tracks). The problems I have had was the bottom radiator support bumping, but that was completely my fault because I took the wrong line. If you pick your lines you won't rub anything important. Another thing, here in Australia we can only have 2 inch lifts legally. What does 2 inches get me I always ask? Nothing much at all especially not anything worth the time to build or money to buy a lift kit. I've got the Kumho 27x8.5R14's under my car with little to no problems. I had to cut a lot of fender, and bash a little. But it looks great now so I can't see why I should lift it to save that fender. Its good reading through all your responses. Interesting to see what you all think on the matter.
  9. Why is it that everyone that asks why I don't have a lift kit seems so offended by my answers? I guess maybe they are trying to defend the reason they spent $$$ on a lift kit? Why can't they be happy with what they have and be happy with the route they took?
  10. Dunno about in the US. But every EA82 I 've seen here in Australia has standard tyres size of 175/70R13.
  11. I think your wrong.. 175/70R13 should be 22.65" 175 / 25.4 * 0.7 * 2 + 13 = 22.65
  12. I don't know why you need a Nissan throw out bearing... The EA82 ones work well with the EA82 gearboxes. ?
  13. Intake rocker to valve stem gap is .25mm and exhaust is .35mm. A 6mm and 12mm spanner plus feeler gauges is all thats needed once the rocker covers are off.
  14. EA81 trans has a smaller diameter and less spline count shaft then the EA82 for the clutch. If its an EA81 box you have to use the EA81 friction plate. And it will have to be the 225mm one, not the older 200mm size EA81 clutch. I would say the EA81 225mm friction plate should be up to the job. Its not like it will get a rough offroad life style.
  15. I just came up with this calculation on the spot, not sure if its good and works but it looks to... My SUBARU 27 inches x 3.14159 Pi =84.82293 inches radius 63360 inches in a mile /84.82293 =746.967 rotations to a mile 1000 engine RPM /22 crawl ratio =45.4545 wheel rotations a minute 45.4545 WRPM x60 =2727.27 WRPH (hour) 2727.27 WRPH /746.967 rotations per mile =3.651 MPH ------------------------------------- My brothers 4RUNNER 35 x Pi =109.95565 63360 /109.95565 =576.23232 1000 /93 =10.75268 10.75268 x60 =645.1608 645.1608 /576.23232 =1.119 MPH 1000rpm in low first Subaru = 3.651 MPH 4Runner = 1.119 MPH
  16. I've done that before... But even when I take my camera I never get pics of my own car as I'm the only one taking pics..
  17. So I have a 22:1 My brother has 93:1 I have 27" tyres He has 35" tyres So his first low is 1/3rd of my first low at idle speed... But I still try crawling over every offroad track...

    Im LIT UP!

Your car seems to be parked infront of a vacant block.... that isn't your home is it? I just put some spot lights on my car too.. Do you get any light from those reflecting off your hood?
  19. So just out of curiosity was it referenced against a Legacy or a Brat? Or do the checks just have to be at a certain level depending on engine size over there?
  20. The weakness in the 4WD gearboxes is the 4wd selector gear. And seems FWD gearboxes are the same except no 4WD gears it should hold up fine. I know everyone says get the xt6 clutch, but over here in Australia where we never got the xt6 clutches everyone uses EA82 clutches with their EJ22 conversions and don't have problems. Just make sure you get a new clutch and you'll be alright.
  21. Sounds like you may need an antisway bar. I don't think a standard Brat one will work with your trike, but you can try to modify a EA82 series type in there. And you most probably need softer springs. The 2WD model springs are a fair bit softer and sit about an inch lower then the 4WD and Brat ones. But I'd say you probably need softer then that. Try going to the wreckers. Find a spring with similar size and uncompressed height to the Brat springs but off a much smaller car, or the rear of a light car. I easily fitted EA82 rear springs on Brat front shocks, this won't help you but it does show you that changing spring diameter isn't hard. You just need to the top hat for the smaller spring and then drill it to fit the shockers thread on top.
  22. My EA81 sedan (which I put a EA81 wagon 4wd rearmember thingo in) had serious bad toe. Don't know what it was in degrees but the front of the right rear wheel was 8mm further out then the back (toe out), and the left rear wheel was 2mm closer inward on the front of the wheel to the back. You could easily see the right rear wheel was toe out. I tried the adjustment but it did nothing. So I done this They are now both 0degrees camber and 1mm to 1.5mm toe in on each wheel.
  23. Once you get to 2" straight through setup you won't notice any performance from bigger anything in the system. But it will sound different. Larger will be slightly louder and a fair bit deaper. But you'll find larger will also be more prone to "droning" in the car. I really like the note and tone of the 2" size with 2" tip. Its all personal preference You might be able to hear the note I'm talking about in this video of my old Brumby/Brat with EJ22 and 2" cat back straight through with a muffler like I described in my last post.
  24. I'm pretty sure with the EA81 Gen 1's the D/R was an option. So a single range in there wouldn't surprise me... Give it a lift and stick a 5spD/R in! haha
