  1. Jobs done now. Because it is a 2wd sedan with no body lift and not an auto it just wasn't going to fit. Cut it, plated and riveted. All fixed and as good as new with some roof n' gutter silicone. Heres my gearbox crossmember (I hate those EA81 mounts so this is how I do it, well this is only the second time I've done it but I'm sure I'll do it again) I made the crossmember to sit the gearbox 15mm lower then standard. This is because the tunnel just wasn't high enough and I couldn't raise it because the heater box. Its still tucked up above the chassis rails of the car so all it good.
  2. Because when your offroad it never is perfect you'll find having a number useless that's probably why no one has a number. Bumps, lumps etc in the track change how the car sits etc plus power here and there changes the weight distribution so it really is impossible to give it a number when your offroad. Using the general rule of thumb for larger 4x4's (never exceed 30 degrees) keeps you out of trouble but otherwise its more a feel thing. You'll probably know when it will go because by the time you get that far in a Subaru you'll know what they are capable of.
  3. Not saying it isn't an alright idea, just saying I don't like the idea of having only 1 piece of vertical metal holding up head suspension point.. I know its thick metal Scott, but that just seems a little scary to me.
  4. Go take a break from it all mate. It may take a year or two but you'll find you want to come back I'm sure. We may miss you, but you'll be back. And enjoy the time you have with no cars, I didn't as much as I should of.
  5. I will be modifying an EA82 crossmember to fit like I did on my old Brat with the FT4WD box. I measured where the box should sit first and I'm putting it there, I don't want it sitting lower then it should. Apparently the auto's have enough room and the manuals are far from it. God knows why Subaru would make so many different trans tunnels for what seems like an identical floor pan..... I've cut it and it will fit now. Just need to get my stupid engine back together to put it in with the box so I can make sure the box will fit. Then I'll patch up the hole and get on with getting this car ready for the road.
  6. Yeah, might do that when I get some money. As it is spending $60 getting the exhaust stud fixed is a bit much and I just found out that both the exhaust valve springs on the 1-3 cylinder head were snapped so I need to replace those. Sorry I didn't get any pics today.. Tomorrow maybe.
  7. Yeah, its taken a back step on priority right now because I can't get it ready for next weekend. An insert I put in the exhaust stud hole ages ago ripped out and now it needs welding. I will be sure to get a few more photos and upload them properly so you can all see. today. The back seat is still full of body panels and stuff that needs to go on the car. Only 191K km on the ticker... And bearly any rust under the body... I'm sure that will all change soon enough. I dont take good care of my cars.
  8. I'll visit from time to time but I have too many sites and things I'm evolved with on the net right now. good luck with it mate
  9. When it does drive, what happens if you gun it like drive it hard?
  10. My brother drove his EA81 wagon for 20mins with no water.. Blow one head gasket, we just replaced it no machining or anything. It ran fine for another few months and then the motor went into a mates 88wagon which got sold. Don;t know if its still going but they are very tough motors. Over heating doesn't always screw them over.,
  11. This kit... What is it? I assume a trans crossmember and a rear shifter plate mount plus flywheel jibbo.. Bashing wasn't going to make enough room. I want it to sit as high as the hold trans did. This means without a lift kit it rubs 50mm below where it should sit. Was your coupe an auto or manual to start with? I've heard the auto's have a lot more room. Ran into more problems. Looks like I'll need to get a exhaust stud welded up on my EA81dc again... The insert ripped its way out while we were racing the wagon.
  12. Sorry, I've just linked from attachments off my own forum over at offroadingsubarus.com. And because its in a members only area maybe they won't work for you?
  13. There was just no way the tunnel would bend to make enough room. The sedans are different like I've said in my other post in Old Gen. Heres what it has come too
  14. Turns out the tunnel in the Sedans is much smaller then the wagons. And there was no way it would stretch wide and high enough. So it got serious
  15. I've done this conversion before only with a FT4wd into a 2" lifted Brumby. I cut and welded the EA82 crossmember to fit into the MY radius plates so I didn't have to use the crap EA81 mounts. I live in Australia, would take too long and cost to much to ship the kit over and I'm a very DIY guy. My old brumby had custom control arms, radius rods, lift kit. It also had an EJ22 with a EJ D/R casing rapped around the FT4WD EA82 parts using the 1.59:1 low range. But I am hoping this next project will stay simple. I'm going to get the hammer out again, maybe the air chisel as well and try to get it done... I thought maybe I was missing something and there was an easier way. Looks like this buz box is different to the Brats.
  16. Having some troubles. I have no lift and I'm running into clearance issues. I've bashed the tunnel wall a fair bit already but it still needs to go about 15mm (I've bashed it maybe 5-10mm and ran out of puff.) I've looked through all the old threads on here about conversion and found one on a Brat that only just rubbed in one spot. So I'm confused, does my sedan have a different tunnel to a Brat? I thought they were all the same?.. Any ideas for bashing? I'm thinking I might have to lift it just to fit the trans... Which isnt what I wanted to do this week.
  17. Thing is, I want it drivable by the 22nd. I've organised a Subaru meet and would like to come along in a Subie not like the last ones I've organised.. So that gives me a week to do the gearbox, engine, prop, radius rods, fenders, diff, etc..... Oh and I need to get it registered and get a key for it. Fun fun
  18. That's my 91 Yamaha TT350. My brother has a 97 YZ250 and now he has an F650GS BMW for the road. Talking about my TT, I really need to get a rear shocker for it. I just don't have the money to spend on it.
  19. I thought I'd post up here about my new subie. I had it in the Playground but I'll start it again. It's a 83 Leone Sedan. I bought it at the wreckers. With all sedans it was only FWD, so I've already got the 4WD torsion bar and tank and put those in. It didn't come with an engine and I had to pull the gearbox out and take that back to the wrecker. I've spent the last couple of weeks slowly pulling down a 5sp D/R 3.7 ratio box and a 5sp S/R 3.9. The single range box was an import from Japan, it came from a crash test car so it has practically no miles on it. The other day I put the snychros, pinionshaft and diff from the S/R into the D/R so now I have a 5sp D/R 3.9 with brand new synchros. Hoping to get onto making the custom crossmember for it today and find out what I need to bash to fit it in. Also I will be putting in my dual carb EA81. I'll be running a welded rear diff with my 27" Kumho M/T's. I'll keen this updated hopefully...
  20. Yes, that confirms I can't do what I wanted, but that's cool, have crazy idea there and then and not all can work. Cheers for the help.
  21. Yeah, I'm not going to bother with hill holders or what not I'm just going to swap in the box. I've made a custom gearbox crossmember before when I put my FT4WD/EJ/1.59low box in my Brat/Brumby. So that won't be an issue, its pretty easy. And My brother is going to help me out making a 1 piece shaft for the box (he done both of his propshafts on his 4runner when he stuck a second transfer case in it).
  22. Just some weird thoughts going round my head. Just wanting pictures of the valve assembly with and without the cam tower. Cheers,
  23. It has a little screw on the back that is suppose to be used for cliping to a belt clip it also comes with. I just made a bracket at the right angle that it slots into. The cables hold it upright. Or should I say did as now that car is sold.
