Many reasons.

Oh, and that port on the intake is tiny!

I think it's going to have to be custom manifold to get what I want. That's ok, shouldn't be to hard to make. The Holley website suggests a 390cfm carb for the 2.5l... strange you had flooding issues.
-
Thanks apintonut, looks like down drafts to me though..? One on each head style? Thanks Toonga, will have to look more through that thread on the laptop, phones a bit cumbersome. What troubles did you have with the Holley? I'd like to run one because of the low profile nature of them.

I'm wanting to put a carb on an EJ25. What do you think would suit best? Without custom manifold I'd probably have to do a side draft, but thinking it might just be easier to make a manifold and use a weber or holly? What models do you think would suit a 2.5 litre flat four? Cheers, Phiz

Thanks for the help. We've mounted the radiator at almost the same height. I'll try it with the thermo and keep an eye on all the pipes and engine temps with my laser thermometer. Cheers, Phiz

Thanks for that. Might give no extra pump a go and watch the temps

Has anyone run with a radiator in the back of the car using EA81 or EA82? Did it require an electric water pump to boost the flow?

Just be prepared to replace a lot of parts. After every heat (1 heat = 3km lap) we had damage which needed repairing. We ended up bending 7 struts, popping a ball joint apart, pulling a driveshaft (axle) apart. We also had to strip the carb down after the first race because the secondary was rusted shut. Ended up taking the carb off and pulling it down into three parts to get the butterfly lose again. All good fun though!

Thought I'd share with this mob over here. In the last weekend of October we raced at Loveday 4x4 Riverland Challenge again. This time with the new wagon. Had some issues here and there but at the end of Sunday we ended up at the top of our class in 1st position. Here are some photos and videos. I won't bother copying the whole report, you can see that over on the other forum. The competition we were up against. Victory doughy We had a great time. Going to rebuild the front end a bit as the radiator ended up 3mm away from the crank pulley....

Part numbers for Exedy ones are different, 15010 for the 2.2 and KSB04 for the 2.5. But from past experience this doesn't mean much (such as the friction plate from and Outback, Legacy and EA82 are interchangeable I have found. But have different part numbers. I would be using the 2.5L flywheel after it has been machined. No dual mass flywheel setup either, all just solid.

EJ20H swapped Gen3 Brat build Continues Tear down time.

Well done on the BRAT mod, I like how you are trying to follow the lines of the original. Can't say I like the styling of those EA82's or those wheels you have chosen but I'm sure you'll enjoy the car once it's done and while it's getting done! I've seen this car in person, well just before it was running and on the road. It was on the hoist getting the 5 stud brakes wheels etc. http://www.risingsuncarservice.com.au/index.php Those are the guys who built it. Radiator was in the back between the roll bar up against the rear window with two thermo fans. I think it was just a WRX radiator or something. It was kinda cool, but honestly with the wheels they chose (to keep offset as close to Brumby factory offset) and the standard Aussie bullbar but no lift it looks kinda boring. I'm sure it went well though. -
I have a 2.5 SOHC Gen 3 Outback with an 8 bolt gearbox and hydraulic clutch. What I want to do is put a early 90's EJ22 flywheel and clutch (which were 4 bolt and cable type) in it. Will this fit and work?

But if 3 are identical and one is different (smaller) the end the tyre is on will have less rotations then the other thus having to slip the centre diff. And it being a VLSD the slippage will cause heat. The question is, how much difference would it take to be harder on the VLSD then a tight windy road? Hrmm
-
I have open front and rear diffs. Also it is a 5MT. So its half half here. Hmmm. I know it has to do with the difference between front and rear speed on the centre VLSD diff. And if it is too different the friction of slipping burns out the centre diff. I onlt need to run the tyre for 6 months or so, then I need to replace all 4 (will be getting 1 or 2 spares as well and rotate them all every so often. The hole is in the side wall. These yoka G900's are freaking stupidly thin.

Ok here is the situation. I managed to get a flat, so I am running a spare. The spare is a steel wheel so I was thinking of putting the tyre off it on to the mag which has a flat. The mags have 215/60R16 Yokahama Geolander G900B's. The Spare has a 215/60R16 Yokahama Geolander G035. The G035 has a diameter of about 5mm less then the G900B's. That is about 1/5th of an inch. And I mean diameter, not circumference. Is it ok to run the G035 in place of one of the G900B's?

Any way to ID a full time dual range tranny easily?

The little red circle shows the shaft which operates the locking centre diff. The Push Button 4WD gearbox's have this shaft on the same side but in a slightly different spot. -
Wont Start When Warm Mystery
Phizinza replied to BlueRu's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
My mate had trouble starting when warm after he put a weber on the car. I think it turned out he didn't have the insulator spacer between the carb and manifold. The carb was getting very hot and the fuel inside the float bowl was vaporizing and building up pressure pushing out the jets and pouring into the manifold basically flooding it. But then at the same time emptying the float bowl and that would take a little while to refill. Just a thought.
