Brumby conversion: EJ22, hybrid AWD center lock, SUCCESS!!!
Phizinza replied to Phizinza's topic in Subaru Retrofitting
Video is encoding..... Heres what I have done for the rest of the fuel lines. I used one of the vent hoses, the one that vents into the top of the vent box in the rear gaurd. And I used the original fuel return hose. So this gives me a 3mm tube and a 6mm tube to return from the engine. And as I said earlier I also ran a new return hose to where the pump is from under the hood. This is just a rubber EFI grade pipe which runs under the door trim. http://offroadingsubarus.com/images/ej22swap_fuel_lines4.jpg http://offroadingsubarus.com/images/ej22swap_fuel_lines5.jpg http://offroadingsubarus.com/images/ej22swap_fuel_lines6.jpg The vent hose I done, as you can see in pic fuel_lines4 I have a T piece and then it runs a rubber pipe into a hard line. This hard line is from the original EA81 carbon canister vent from the front of the car, just cut off the smaller pipes and zip-tied it in next to the tank. I have also fit the EA81 pedal box with the EA82 clutch cable so it reaches the 5sp's clutch lever (I think this is only a problem for RHD cars.) http://offroadingsubarus.com/images/ej22swap_5sp_clutchcableandpedal.jpg -

Hell yeah indeed!!! I'm so relieved! http://offroadingsubarus.com/images/ej22swap_wiring_test1.jpg http://offroadingsubarus.com/images/ej22swap_wiring_test2.jpg Heres the wiring. Next steps are: weld EA82 throttle pedal to fit EA81 pedal box, fit pedal box, Clean up wiring loom and fit, install original EA81 radiator, which requires some welding to the front chassis beem, weld old exhaust pipe to new flange and bolt on, fit pod filter, fit all interior stuff, dash stuff, seats, etc, new switch and wiring for diff locker, ... The list goes on! I'm hoping to get it all done before next weeked though. -

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! SHE RUNNNNNNNNSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!! After 3 hours of trouble shooting the loom, she RUNS! WOOOOO HOO :grin: * * The problem was in the sheiding lines for the gray cables that go between the ECU and major engine componets.. When I done the loom ages ago, I must of taped the sheid GRD (ground) wire into the Ingition switch wire. Stupid me. But After 4 fuses and the 3 hours, it goes.. And runs sweet. I'll post back in a bit with photos, and then VIDEO of the very first try and start of the BEAUTY! -

The problem that we've explained in other threads about changing the diff ratio with a RX (center diff lock) box is the pinion shaft is a 3.7. And the pinion gear is part of the shaft. You would have to be a BLOODY good welder to put a 3.9 or 4.11 pinion gear on the pinion shaft.. Swapping the low range in the EJ box required a detent to be welded up on the EA82 shift fork as you can see. This makes sure the gear stays in. This is because the EA82's low range detent is in the back section with the 4WD selector. Which I think if you want 3.9 you are going to have to use the PT4WD rear end of the box. I don't know what the RX gearbox has for a detent on the low range shift fork as I have not seen a RX casing, my diff locker box had already been merged with PT box. I have seen people with PT 5spds and dual lever (for lo hi) and they don't have problems with it slipping out of Low range. So The detent may not be needed, who knows.. I already have a upgraded membership, I donated -
Cool, glad to hear you know what your on about, and that you have the right parts.Should get a few more MPG out of that SPFI, good luck to you.

... Loyal with a EA81?? Something was doing the right thing :-p EA81 FTW You totaly sure the Loyal didn't have timing belts? No black covers on the front of the engine?
-
Yes, that is a beast.. But this topic is about new gen subies...
-
just FYI nova, the MPFI have 4 intake runners each with it's own injector. The SPFI has two runners just like the EA81 and has a single injector in the TB (throttle body)
-
Is that a Viscous LSD?
-
Good to hear you got it sorted. In my case, I don't have P/S

Sadly this is the truth.. I am now looking at just making room for the EJ radiator or finding some adaptors to fit my EA one back in. I do like the alloy radiators a LOT more. Cheers, I just wish I had the motivation to finish it off sooner then later. But it's just really getting on my nerves how everything isn't working out first go. I'll get over it and hopefully work on it a lot this week... I'm still working on that stupid fuel setup. I really want a surge tank, hmm, ebay..... -
Look closely at the fuel rails and the three pipes coming off the left side of the EJ. You'll see one goes into a line that leads right over to the charcol canister, one leads to the right head fuel rail and one to the left. The fuel in goes into the top one of those three pipes on the left side of the motor. Into the right head I think.

I think you mean using the EA82 DOJ cups on EA81 axles in an EA81. How much angle are on your axles? As in, what is the difference in inchs between your hub stubs and the diff stubs? I reckon 2 to 2.5" is good, but have never measured mine.. Also you'll notice if you bring the back of the diff up your just putting more angle on your axles and propshaft, without getting more clearence because the front of the diff doesn't go up either, unles you do the spline crank on the torsion bar and only use like 3" lift blocks in the rear.

Going fast is one thing, having fun is another IMHO. -
Converting my Loyale Wagon to Electric?
Phizinza replied to Davalos's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I have thought of this before for a Brat. I thought it would be great for offroading. But there wouldn't be enough juice to get to the offroad spot One thing I thought of while reading this was what about the vacuum brake boost? Would be great to get your car a little more green good luck. -
Allied Armament Update 300 Hp Wagon
Phizinza replied to Allied Armament's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Install ISF from a big 4x4 front and rear in the subie and she should hold up pretty good. Plus if you want, install 4WS -
brat LSD, camber mod and rear discs
Phizinza replied to backinbrat's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
So this one you are looking at with the 3.545 ratio. It's from a datsun guy who changed the ratio to that from 3.7? Or is it from a later WRX with the 3.545 ratio and not a clutch pack LSD? Just make sure. If it is a R160 from a Subaru, then it should be pretty easy to change the ratio to what ever you want.. -

Phizinza replied to scoobyclimbs's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Yeah, ok.. They are ok. Only thing I would do different if I were to own one would be to have a manual. And don't give me any of that "You try to handle a clutch with 500hp" BS. There are a lot of cars out there that are manuals with 500hp and you don't need to be a race car driver to drive one. I have offen thought about a lowered turboed Brat, but I think I would go for some other body shape or car. I like to drive something unique. And doing up a unique car isn't unique anymore... -
Huck, that is a great idea. Although there could be a problem if it is bumped. But if it's in a good place it should work great.

... Well, they are both fast.. But why do something like that to a Brumby.. LIFT IT!!! :banana:and then 490+hp! -
brat LSD, camber mod and rear discs
Phizinza replied to backinbrat's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I was assuming he had a 3.7 diff in the front already, two out of three 4 speeds I have are 3.7's. I think it is different around the world. But yeah, make sure you have all the right ratios. -
I think you'll find your self mistaken there. The little one in the middle is return, the biggest one is supply and the size inbetween is vent..

Yeah, probably. I checked it out at u-pull it and it looked good. It would fit a stock EA81 great but for the fact the filler is so high... The pipes are slightly smaller then the Liberty ones, but I think the liberty pipes will go on ok... -
