I think there are a lot of people that aren't old enough to drive (mentally...) Sorry, stupid comment. ..... I really don't know what to say, Maybe something like, "sick ride m8" nawhhh, too ricer. Ummm... how about yay for subies!

It's amazing how many Nissan parts are interchangeable. Sounds like a good swap. Sounds like you have everything sorted. Give it a go

Front diff interchangeability: The true answer
Phizinza replied to WJM's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I think underbody areo is the coolest way to get more downforce and cleaner air flow at the back. A defuser would look sick on a old subie! -

And look much better (just my opinion on new car styling) -
Front diff interchangeability: The true answer
Phizinza replied to WJM's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
From what I can see from pulling apart a couple of subie gearboxes it would be super easy. Unbolt the back plate form the rear of the gearbox. Unbolt the center diff housing, I needed a little force to get the diff splines off. Split the gearbox casing apart. Pull the front diff out. Unbolt the crown gear/ring gear off the diff. Bolt the LSD unit to the ring gear. Play around with shimming for a few hours. (I'm sure you can look on google for "how to shim an LSD") and then do the reverse of what I said above. I may of missed something, like maybe putting the stubs on the LSD unit if it doesn't already have them, but I'm sure any one could be able to figure out what needs to be done. Just mostly circlips holding things together in there by the looks of it. Like WJM says, it's easy. And if aren't sure you can do it, maybe you shouldn't. -
lol, there was another video? Sometimes I don't bother reading the whole thread, sorry.

I've driven my brat for well over 1000km onroad in 4WD at speeds around 100km/h. No ill effects that I can see so far. But it does have the best 4sp trans I have seen. I would really like to see how long one of these boxes can last on pavement in 4WD. Just the other day I went for a drive and pulled into a car park forgetting I was in 4WD with a welded rear and axles in, and I was on 215 wide road tires. Was interesting I must say, but nothing broke.
-
I took mine off the Brat a couple of weeks back. All I have noticed is a tiny bit more body roll and a bit more oversteer in the dirt..

What about in 10 years time when the computers start to go wrong and all the fancy stuff stops working?
-
Have you driven a yota? I haven't driven those old ones, but the 01 model sure rocks. I still like my subie though, cheaper to modifiy.

Pretty easy with a good jig saw and almost a full can of WD40. Gotta keep the alloy cool other wise it sticks to the blade.. Trust me, the wiring was much, much, much, much harder. But after I got the hang of the wiring it wasn't so hard (I just hope it works:lol:) I'll have a write up on most of the stuff I'm doing before the end of the year on my site.

With the SPFI block you'll also get more compression.. (more powa)

EA82t power differences in different countries
Phizinza replied to Phizinza's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
So somehow they fit people under the hoods of cars with EA82ts in the US?? -
Now that the old wagon is a mini armored tank...
Phizinza replied to bgd73's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I'm sure you could take two out and only run 3... lol Glad to hear that the want for more power has over come your beliefs... -
I cut the adapter plate for my EJ22 yesterday (out of a 12.5mm plate of alloy.) I've got the two bottom holes drilled but I wanted to know what people recommened for the top holes. I like the idea of welding up a offset bolt like 91Loyale (?) done. But my brother thinks it would be much easier to just put in some helicoils and use two bolts for each side. What I don't like about this is the room to get the bolts thru the engine side, and I also don't want to drill out those threads on the engine side because I plan to use a EJ trans later. Other option is wait till I have all the parts I need to build my AWD D/R EJ box, but that might be a couple of months. What would you do with the top bolts on the adapter plate?

EA82t power differences in different countries
Phizinza replied to Phizinza's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
So it's quite a lot.. Has anyone sourced parts of EA82t's from other countries to the US for that little extra go? Or is it easier to just find better parts from performance places and other cars? -
I'm not sure but that sounds right for a 3 speed auto.. These do only have 3 speeds in them right?
-
I've heard if you use the torque Delta cam it is much better. And I believe the only differences in performance come from the cam (just my belief.) I would highly recommend it, but thats cos I like the EA81. And I hate working on EA82's, too much stuff on top of them. And timming belts are for people with heaps of time to replace them. But if you are going to put one in, I reckon you should do it up first. SPFI is cool, plus a delta cam, maybe some new rings while your there and a really nice clean should make it feel happier

I think one of the main questions is: Do you care about tread? You'll never get a good tread with a 25" tire on a 15" rim... And really, it isn't hard at all to get the hammer and angle grinder out and fit an extra 2" of tire size. Do you want, A/T, M/T, H/T, or roaders? Also I reckon anything over 27" tires is not a good idea at all for a daily driver. But that's just my opinion
-
I have a set of the 27" Kumho M/T's. They are great. Really hard compound makes for pretty slow wear. I think I'll get around 22-28K miles out of them with mostly on-road driving, and I'm not a soft driver. Bit fun in the wet, but they are still ok. I only assume the bigger ones are the same. Sorry, I have no idea what wheels you should get. a 6" wide rim with 25mm offset works well, sits just inside the guard. So I'm guessing a 7.5" wide rim would do good with around 40mm offset?

I guy here in Aus had a EA81 coupe with a turbo'd 13b and WRX gearbox in it. That was until some idiot pulled out in front of him anyhow. I think he was going to fix it, but not sure. Pretty sure you'll find it in the members rides section on ausubaru.com forum.

But does the vacuum diaphragm look the same as the diff locker one? I guess it only makes sense to use the same parts...

bugga...

I got a single range gearbox with a vacuum diaphragm on it. I thought it was a FT4wd. But at closer inspection it looks like the vacuum diaphragm opperates the 4x4 selector. Does a box like this exist? If so can someone show my pictures of the outside of it?? It has 23 spline shafts, fits a EA82, is S/R, and has a vacuum diaphragm. I just thought it would be a FT4WD box with a diff locker...
