Can't go too much further then it already is (unless the front springs are sagging, which it doesn't look like yours are) because the outter CV's on Subarus are a bit weak. And if you don't have many Subaru's in your area, replacement costs go through the roof. Here I just go to the local junkyard and pull some for around $40AUD ($33USD) a piece. But theres plenty of Subies in Australia, especially Brats/Brumbys/MVs. -
Oh, I know the 36mm socket joys... Silly axles, so weak. ( I guess I was asking a bit much from them ) I've had the ute for about 20months now? I signed up here a week after I bought it I think. So what ever it says up the top right.. The boots I have right now on the front shafts are around 16months old. But I have to say my poor little ute doesn't get as much offroading as it should. And it's all just sand stuff around here. My parents were in tas just the other week for a 7 week holiday and now I have to go apparently (because the offroading is so good.) Matt, did you want those pictures of the L springs in the front of my MY? I just need your email addy.

Almost more valuable then the car... ahhaI was thinking of some hella's for my rollbar, but they cost a bucket load of cash. -
Last time I checked Subaru wasn't making reliable flying imps out of the factory... The cost is there because the demand is low and the quality is high. That setup pictured could do with some refining though I think...

Yeah, if you don't care about offroad go with a FT4WD box or a AWD box. Hey Matt, how hard was it to bolt your Lib D/R box in? I am thinking of putting mine in with the EJ. Although I want to modifiy it first (lower low range, lower diff gears, and more, just cos I can.)
-
Sounds great, but the boots I put on mine still look new after 10,000km. They are just aftermarket cheapies from the auto store. Put it this way, I've gone through two outter CV's and the boot I used is still going strong. (I've since fixed my axle issue, and this one form upull-it is going strong now.) I would be interested to see one of these boots, but I'm not willing to commite to buying anything.

...$$$ ouch... I know a couple of farmers, maybe I'll see if I can find some secondhand ones... Could be a little bit of fun. Just need to find a place that needs tires like that now.

A quick search for " *EJ* Conversion " came up with these links. ( * is a wild card, the search engine here only allows 4 letter words or more. ) http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=64472&highlight=%2AEJ%2A+conversion http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=65561&highlight=%2AEJ%2A+conversion http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=48848&highlight=%2AEJ%2A+conversion http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=60331&highlight=%2AEJ%2A+conversion http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=59255&highlight=%2AEJ%2A+conversion http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=52111&highlight=%2AEJ%2A+conversion The third one down is a good one. Look through these too http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/search.php?searchid=346498 http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/search.php?searchid=346499 Also look at all the posts by this guy http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/search.php?searchid=346495 I'm putting a EJ22 in my Brat at the moment. I think I got the wiring done. I got lots of pictures but before I know it's working I won't post any. I just gotta get the adaptor plate and do some work on my flywheel now. Then she should be ready to go in. You'll be looking at around 50 to 100 man hours for the swap as a first timer I reckon. But for 135hp it's way better then the 95hp you may get out of your EA with all the "upgrades" you can get (without going computerized EA)

Uniqueness i like, and your brat is unique. Welcome to the board! -
Yeah, that's what I was thinking.. Just found these on that site http://www.titanstore.com/info/4LG379 Good for a non-lifted subie?? Or theres these instead of using Kumho's http://www.titanstore.com/info/412339 Does anyone know if tractor tires have the same type of bead as road tires? Like, can a tractor tire be fitted to a road wheel? I'm also guessing the max speed on these tires wouldn't be so good for beach runs...

Pretty much anywere that isn't paint at the moment. I just duct tape the wireless camera to different places. I was thinking under the bullbar looking backward at the front suspension/brake/wheel... Hopefully I will get the VCR in my car working so I can have two videos at the same time and slice them together..

Gday, and welcome You have a part time 4WD 5sp, FWD/4WD with 4LOW, just to illiminate confusion. It also won't have a center diff because its part time, not full time. But you'll like that 1.59:1 low range. Especially in ice and snow. I hope we can help you out in the future with any problems you may have. Good luck.

I was at a mates place welding up a new exhaust for his 88 wagon and I saw some interesting tires on one of his parents tractors. they were about 30" dia, 7.5" wide on a 16" 6 lug split rim (yes, the 6 lug pattern was 6x139.7) So it got me thinking, I wonder if there is any smaller tractor tires with this kinda tread... Anyone have any pictures of Subaru's with this style tire? I don't think I've seen one yet. Maybe a future project. I know some jeep guys use tractor tires for the deep mud.. Just interested at the moment, I've already got my car set with the Kumho's..

No problem. I wanted to do something a little different. Next time I will get more camera angles Also the whole copy right thing is a little better without music... Not that I've always been so good, or will always be so good.

axles for dual/range in legacy
Phizinza replied to Scott in Bellingham's topic in Subaru Retrofitting
I'd assume it would just be the oppersite to putting the AWD in the GL. Just need the D/R's inner cups and put them onto the Leg's shafts.. Can't say for sure though -
Big Big Props to WagonsOnly
Phizinza replied to Bucky92's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Same here.. I've seen some ER27's imported here, but they cost lots and I've heard the XT6 is quite different to the XT... I wonder how much it would cost to import the whole car.... stop thinking about that, I can't even afford another car.. ahahah.. That sure is a beautiful car. Nice buy -
Love the yellow! Has it got a open rear diff? I welded mine and it is AMAZING how much better it is offroad. But I miss 4WD on dirt roads

So its a 5sp manual FT4WD? D/R? I bet that ER27 is nice in the small XT.. Never got that engine over here in Aus. I like the color too, suites the car. -
And if you look in a EA82 you'll see a space and some casting parts to fit a central cam... EA82 heads have a very similar bolt pattern to EA82's. All EJ heads that I've seen bolt on to any EJ.. EA82 is in no way any more connected to an EJ as it is to the Alfa or Porsches boxes... I'm not usally in agreence with GD, but most of what his said on this subject is what I believe. Of cause there isn't one true truth, there is just lots of different opinions. I stick to my statistics, so many t-belt troubles, so little pushrod problems. Put it this way, I wouldn't trust my life on a engine that was designed in the 80's that uses t-belts. Maybe a newer one, but not something that old.
-
Guys... c'mon... Get over it, EA what ever, they are both good, both bad, and as always some will like one, some will like the other and some will hate them both. The way I see it is the EA82 is a modified EA81, so in my world you can get a EA81 to get the same power without ANY possiblilty as to break a belt/chain. I have only heard 1 story about a bent pushrod in the 19months or so I have been here and I have heard 2050584894906034 stories of t-belt trouble...... You do the math... I personally drive a EA81dc with the different heads (not as cool as those ones on the SUB4/RAM engine) but still better flow. And I can feel the 100hp vs stock EA81 80hp. I can't see how you couldn't get my motor to 150hp with a turbo or SC with no troubles. Anyway, thats what I think. And really, I don't give a bloody chickens rear end what you think. As for the timing belt change in 40mins... Very possible if there was two of you and it was made so there was no fan/radiator in front of you.. But I wouldn't like to be on the out side of a plain at 5k-10k feet hanging on and changing a belt. I'd much prefer to keep flying with my push rodies!
-
EFI always seems better then carbs for mpg. I wonder what the new subie diesel will get... You could put the SPFI off a late EA82. That would be good, or is that what you already have? What 1.8 have you got? EA81, EA82, EA82SPFI, EA82MPFI, EA82t?
-
Shipping just say 10 of those bolts from aus to US will cost at least $25aud in airmail, unless you like waiting three months, and each bolt is like $4aud. I think you'd be better off buying $100 worth... But my math may be wrong. It's hard sourcing those bolts where I live even...
