Hi ALL! I just bought a used (134K miles ) 2005 Legacy Wgn about a month ago. Got it off an Ex-Subee mechanic. He did the Head Gaskets, Timing belt, Cat. anyhow. As I live with the car now, I think the Temp gauge is strange, I'm used to all the other Subee's I've had, the Temp gauge reaches Operating temp, then just sits there, doesn't move, unless there is a problem. This car IS different.... it slowly makes it to it's normal, it does give off heater heat fast, and hot, so no problem there. But it does fluctuate, it's normal position lets say is just a hair above the middle, after I've driven the car I've seen it move down to below half, and of course the position I don't like, is maybe 3 clicks above half, but it does come back down. So the question is, is this NORMAL for these PZEV engines? or what gives? It DOESN'T overheat ! THANKS, SubeeTed

Hi ALL! So I have this car 2 weeks now....ironed out some problems. Got new one today ! It's a 2005 Legacy Wagon. The gas filler door doesn't want to open, I can tell by the release inside this problem has been going on for a while ! The cable has been stretched, all the plastic around is loose. I slipped my finger under the cable just behind the release and you can tell that , that's been done before by the way it conforms to your finger. I finally got the door open by using a screw driver, I didn't screw up the door. What I can guess, is that the sprung loaded tab doesn't work anymore, so you have to pull on the release with your figure and have someone open the door, well I don't have a someone, so I have to fix it! Ya, what an idea ! I have two pix, I don't know if the tab thing is just sprung or that maybe it's missing ? Its the silver thing in the pix. Never really paid attention to an operating door before, because the ones I've had always worked ! It's wet in there because I sprayed it with good old WD40. Any ideas?? HELP! SubeeTed

Fixed center Console lights, and dash dimmer problem AND tail lights ....ALL at the same time ! And it doesn't make sense ! I've only had this '05 Leg Wgn for 6 days. It's a good car, I overlooked a couple of problems when I bought it. I only drove it in the day time. I didn't notice that the center console lights were out, were the heater controls are. I didn't know that the dimmer for the instrument panel didn't work either ! I also didn't notice that my tail lights didn't work, but I did have break lights ! SO......I wanted to repair the console lights, I was told to look into the fuses and also check to see is your getting voltage at the fuse connectors. In order to pull fuses I needed that puller, which resides in the fuse/relay box under the hood. I went there, got puller, I noticed that I had a relay that was cracked, when I looked at the chart it says "Tail light relay " . I didn't think anything of it at the time, I thought I had tail lights ! Anyhow, I pulled fuses #16 , #7 and finally #5, all are fine! I didn't check for voltage. I then noticed that I didn't have tail lights ! So I suspected that the relay was bad. I tried pulling it, what a pain, I then realized the reason it was broken is because someone was trying to pull it one time with needed nose pliers (like I was trying ) and cracked it. It's TOO far away to my Subee dealer. Went to local salvage yard, I hoped maybe they had a relay puller ? Anyhow, we yanked a relay out of donor Subee. The mechanic there said I should try his little hook thing that looks like a screw driver, well that worked! I took out my dead relay, popped the other one in and YAY !! Tail lights worked. Went in my car out of curiosity and noticed that my console lights were on, the dimmer worked and I found out I had other interior lights that worked also! ALL this by replacing a relay under the hood that says " Tail light relay " ! Doesn't make sense but I'll take it !!

Hi Rooster. I did a Carfax on the car. It wasn't salvaged. I suspect were the car came from West Kingston RI , which is about ten miles from the Atlantic, that simply living there would bring sand in with the air ! The rest of the car is in very good shape, carpets, interior etc. I'm also finding other people with this center console light problem. THX, SubeeTed

THANKS again Cougar ! I called the ex-Subee guy I bought the car through. He said before he does head gaskets, he also makes sure the fans work. He replaced the gaskets in this Leg Wgn, he said the fans worked. The taillights also work. I didn't know what combination meter meant when I went to check the fuses. I did check #16 fuse, which says illumination, that was OK. I did check # 7 which said "combination meter" . Number 5 also says "combination meter" I didn't check, because I was frustrated by then with the tiny fuses and couldn't get my hand up there! BUT now I will, because it really might be the problem, and I know now that I can check for power using both sides of the fuse holder for power ! MANY THANKS , SubeeTed

Hi Cougar! I tried checking some fuses. I looked in the owners manual and tried to find the correct one! Don't really know if I found the right ones because none say "center console illumination" so I guessed ! I looked at fuse 16, it says illumination ,and it was fine ! I looked at fuse 7 , it says combination meter, don't really know what that is , but it also was fine ! I tried to pull out # 5, I can't get to it, it also says combination meter! SO I don't know what to do with that! BUT while I was in the fuse/relay box under the hood to get the puller, I did discover I have a I have a cracked relay ! I don't know what it does ! I have taken a pic it's below ! I see that I've got sand in the fuse/relay box, this car came from Rhode Island near the shore I suspect through the years it's just made it's way in there! But what does this relay do? And do I need to replace it? IS it the cause of my console lighting (were the heater controls are, etc. ) problem? I've only had this car a few days, everything else seems to work so far ! MANY THANKS, SubeeTed

Hi ALL! I just got a 2005 Legacy Wagon . The center red console backlighting doesn't work! Also, the dimmer for the dash light doesn't work (it's stuck on low, maybe it's a default position if the dimmer goes bad ? ) , but the outside mirror part of it does! I'm wondering if the dimmer also controls the red console lights and it is the cause of the problem ? OR....just how do I repair the red console backlighting ? MANY THANKS, SubeTed

Hi ALL I just found a Legacy Wagon to replace my totaled '01 Leg GT Wgn. It doesn't have fog lamps ! For the last 10 years I've owned a GT, all had Fog Lamps, I've had this car 8 hours, drove it in the dark and I miss them ! What's the best way to add the lamps ? I like the OEM ones, so how does one wire them ? And get them ....Ebay ? What will I need ??? This car has a problem, I assume that the heater controls are backlit, mine a dark right now....how do you replace the bulbs ????? MANY THANKS , Ted

Hi ! My '01 Legacy GT Wagon just got totaled , I got rear ended. I'm ok, little ache , passenger is worse. Anyhow. There is a 2003 GT WGN with a manual (I want one ) but it has a TURBO! I've heard nothing good about a Subee Turbo! As in WHEN they blow up, the shrapnel gets sucked via the oil lines and eventually blows up the engine too ! Don't know how much truth there is to that ! I'de like to know about when do these Turbo's blow up ? Does it cost more to insure then because they do have a Turbos, or is that in the bad old days ? The one in my area has had the heads done , the belt and water pump and he says the clutch is still good. MANY THANKS, SubeeTed !

Hi ALL! A buddy of mine just bought a used '05 Outback, with 4 Cylinder, Auto, 17 Inch Goodyear Tripletreads that are new. Anyhow... he had a '01 Outback the shorter car. He says he doesn't like the '05's SUV handling VS his old more station wagon handling. He spends a lot of time in this car for his for his work and wants it to handle well, especially in winter. I suggested that he get fatter sway bars, front and back. Any other suggestions ? THX, SubeeTed

Hi ALL! YES...this IS a stupid question ! I have a leak in my radiator, I've been adding coolant. I have tried to add the Subee conditoner once, via the radiotor cap. I got about 3/4 of a bottle in, didn't stop leak. It gets clogged up at the top , couldn't get it all in ! I'de like to add another full bottle but don't want to waste any ! I was thinking of draining of some coolant, via petcock. Then pulling off top radiator hose and pouring down the conditoner and quickly puttin it back together....unless there are better ideas out there ! Many thanks, Ted

Hi ALL! I still have my 2001 Legacy GT Wagon with Auto and 162 K miles on it . I still have the forward sluggishness problem, now that it's colder, it really shows. I have done the TransX thing, it helped some. I also have the stalling upon hard braking thing. I have replaced the Master cyclinder, that did nothing. I have cleaned the the IAC. I have a good ground . I have sort of given up on what to do , untill I came upon the post hee of the guy on Youtube swapping out his OEM tranny fluid on his Honda for Synth, by using his ATF pump, link below. I am intrigued and terified of the concept of doing it to my '01 LGT. I'm thinking that my Torq Converter is the problem. I did experiment and did had braking in Neutral, stalling goes away. So I'm thinking if I do this, BOTH problems go away, or at least helped greatly, OR the Tranny DIES! I'm thinking replace OEM ATF with Valvoline Maxlife Dexron III then top it off with a can of fresh TransX. Then replace tranny filter with a fresh one after all this ! OK.....just how STUPID is this idea !!!???? SubeeTed Video .....

Hi ALL! I tracked down a 2000 Legacy GT Wgn, my '97 got totaled about a year ago, currently driving an auto, I miss the 5 speed, which this car is ! The '00 is a GT WGN, 5 SPd, with ONLY 84K miles on it ! I know this is the first of the model year change car, which means they must have some problems that I need to look into if I'm thinking about this car! So what's the scoop on this '00 Subeeland !!!??? Many, Many Thanks, SubeeTed

Hi ALL! I just got a door stop that I need to replace on my '01 Leg GT Wgn. I got it off Ebay. I don't want to destroy my interior trim, I need to know the location and type of fasteners that hold the trim on. I looked at 1st Subaru's parts blow-up. It doesn't give enough detail. I'm hoping to loosen as little as I can to replace the stop. HELP !! Many thanks, SubeeTed
