Hi ! Just read code, found it to be the Evac leak code thing. Reset, went away, put 20 miles on car. Maybe had the cap on screwey ! Gonna try and change both tranny filters. Going to drop the pan. I intend on replace lost ATF with Synth. My mechanic buddy said something about there being "switches" that might be there when you drop the pan that can be looked at that control the Torq Con. . I just took a peak at the engine compartment. You can see a big fat ground with a yellow streak in the black wire. It's on the right side, just below the intake goes to the body under the washer tank. Any how, it looks health, a tiny bit of corrosion up top around the crip connector, and looks clean at the body. I suspect that it isn't the ground. I also gave it a good shake, nothing is loose ! Bummer !

Hi Ivans AND Nipper. Can the grounds be seen from up top of engine bay ? Or only from the car being on a lift ?? So Nipper, your saying that if I drive in D3 ,this doesn't activate the Torq Converter ? I'll try this tonight at the usual spot that I know it wants to stall.see what happens ! THANKS, SubeeTed

Hi HDbaven. I haven't fixed the hard breaking problem ! I was going to serisouly consider doing the Trany Fluid evacuaction and replacing with Synth, I was told not to, do the fact I have 159 K miles on the car. The evac machine will roil up all the junk in the tranny. I did, awhile ago replace my Brake Booster, that did sound like it had a tiny vac leak, it didn't take care of the hard brake probelm. I did clean out the throttle body in hopes that it would clean the Idle Air Cintroler, that did nothing. I cleaned the IAC, that did nothing ! ALL of the above were done a while ago. Now my CEL light is on, I haven't checked the code yet.... I hope it's not the dreaded Cat not working properly, I have a buddy with the same car, he has never been able to fix this (3 years now !), he drives around with a big red R, for a sticker !!! Do you also have the hasitating to get into first gear problem ??? I still have this problem, I did add Trans X, to my tranny, and only Trans X, after taking a little ATF out. I did help, it cut the delay in half. My personal thinking is that the Torq Converter is sticking upon hard breaking, you can experiment yourself....go to the place were you know it wants to stall, just BEFORE the usual RPM when it wants to stall, carefully push it into "N". Good Luck !! SubeeTed

Hi ALL! I opened the PAss door yesterday, heard this load snap, said a few things out load, then looked around inside of my door. That thing that slides in-and-out as you open the door snapped were its bolted to the body of the car. Now the slide thing doesn't slide anymore! I don't know if it failed to slide, then when I opened the door it broke it off, or what ! So the question IS.....can it be easily fixed without taking the door apart ? I can see there are a few bolts that can be gotten to on the outside (of the insdie of the door ) of the door. I have a 2001 Legacy GT Wgn. Just what is that part called ??? Many thanks, SubeeTed

Hi ALL! I have a '01 GT Wgn, Auto, 160 K miles, wants to stall upon hard breaking ! Well I replaced the brake booster as it says in this string of posts. I also added Trans X, that did help the not moving when cold into forward gear problem, it chopped the time in about half till it moves. It still has this problem. I cleaned the throttle body in hopes of cleaning the IAC, that did nothing . I did clean the IAC itself, that helped a little. I still have the stalling , or wanting ( I can prevent this by taking my foot off the brake for a second ) to stall upon heavy braking! Can it be the torque converter locking up ? Is that also responsible for the not moving forward instantly ? ANY other ideas out there ?? Is it worth going to Jiffy Lube and have them change the tranny fluid, then add synthetic TF ? OR , as I hear in these posts that just creates another mess !?? HELP !!! SubeeTed

Hi ALL! My PAss door froze up on me the other day on my '01 Legacy GT wgn. I was in a mall parking lot, opened the passengers door it wouldn't close. Anyhow, umongst all the things I tried to to get it too shut, I used the lock/unlock button on the key fob, whish is also the alarm set thing! Anyhow I must of hit the alarm with the pass door open, alarm went off, I shut door disengaged alarm. I finaly got door to thaw and shut. Ever since then the alarm light on the dash flashes three flash pattern. The doors lock and unlock fine with the fob, car runs ok. The flashing stops when car starts. I've tried doing ignition 3 times thing, doesn't work. It's annoying! Any ideas ?? Many thanks, SubeeTed

Hi ALL! This IAC thing is getting beyond stupid ! I've done the clean throttle body with cleaner, still stalls under heavy breaking ! I've replaced the brake booster, also stalls under heavy breaking. I bought the gasket that is link suggested to clean my IAC, it doesn't look anything like what I have ! So..just HOW stupid am I ! I have a '01 Legacy GT Wg, Auto, it's a EJ251 SOHC motor. I thought I could use the procedure in the link below to clean my IAC, before I bought one. MY IAC doesn't look like this ! I've posted a pic of my Subee, just were IS the IAC ? IS it the round thing to the right ? The part number on that sticker is A33-661-R02, I've been told by Subee parts that it's a bad number! What gives ! HELP SubeeTed ! http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=781242

Hi ALL ! I tried cleaning the throttle body with Valvoline TB cleaner. It was dirty, the air cleaner was dirty, needs replacing. I gave it a good bath, stalled it a few times, cleaned it up. BUT, it still stalls under hard breaking. So, will the procedure below work on my 2001 Legacy GT with the SOHC ? Or is a different IAC ? Many thanks, HELP ! SubeeTed http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=781242

Hi ALL ! Thanks for the info ! I need to know how to clean the AIC, I found this procedure over at the NA Impreza site. I have a 2.5 SOHC in my 2001 Legacy. Is this the same AIC in this car ? Or were can I find the correct procedure for my car ? Many thanks, SubeeTed http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=781242

Hi ALL! OK...it's the Idle Air Controller (IAC) that I was thinking about ! Can it make the car stall under hard braking ? The car starts and idles fine! Can the IAC be checked ? Would it cause this hard braking stall ? I can stop it from stalling simply by letting my foot off the brake, this doesn't happen all the time, once off the brake, I just get back into it, it stops it from stalling. I have replaced the brake booster, it helped, the problem didn't go away! Many thanks, HELP, SubeeTed !!

Hi ALL! Installed reman brake booster...NOT the problem! Still stalls, but less. I have the Auto Trans going into forward problem also, just added Trans X yesterday, hoped that MAYBE this would help with the stalling under hard braking, but NO! It did help the tranny though! Is there a engine management sensor? Not the TPS, but one that also sits next to it, it manages throttle on the way down ? HELP!!! SubeeTed

Thanks all for the replies! I was toying with the idea of changing all the tranny fluid to Amsoil Synth ATF and adding the Trans X, then I found out that the Subee takes 9.8 US Qt's, that idea died. There $11.50 @ plus shipping. I looked at the link for the Trans x here, I see people have found succes with just adding the Trans X. That's what I'm gonna do. I've got a simple and silly question to ask..... how do I pull the Qt of tranny fluid out of the tranny in order to add the Trans X ? Simply pull the drain plug and guess to about a qt. ? Thanks ALL, SubeeTed
