I did the same stuff you did. Wires. plugs, coil pack. I did one thing you didn't mention. It's run this stuff you can get from the dealer that burns off the carbon build up. It's cheap, sort of works like that "Sea Foam" stuff I hear about. You basicaly run it through the engine via a vacuum hose, I used the large hose from the master cylinder. I think I have a different head on my 2.5 DOHC engine. it's a "Shim PAck" engine. Basicaly they use "Shims" to adjust valve clearence. Did you do a compression check or leak test? This will tell you if you have a valve problem. GOOD LUCK!! SubeeTEd

Hi all! So I thought my low beam on my 1997 Legacy GT was dead. Then I hit another frost heavy bump, then the low beam worked again! So like what's up with this? Can't be the bulb....it works sometimes! It didn't work the other day, I was taking fresh snow off my car with one of those scraper/broom things. I had my low beams on, the drivers low was out again....so I gave it a tap...really a TAP! It came back on!!! What gives??? Simple stupid bad connection....rust?? How can I fix this ??? Many, Many thanks, SubeeTed!!

Hi all! Sooo, I need to replace my headlamp bulb in my 1997 Legacy GT. I thought I might UP-Grade! SOOoo many choices! Just what do these numbers mean!? I do know that I ONLY want a "White" Bulb! I don't like those "Blue" colored bulbs coming at me, I don't want any of those! I THINK my car takes an 9003 bulb.....has the "H4" taken over this part ??? Just what does these 7500K, etc, numbers mean? I see tons of bulbs on Ebay. What can I get and SAFELY AND LEGALY use??? HELP!!! SubeeTed

Hi all again! My 1997 GT Wgn with it's DOHC 2.5 is having it's first winter with me (it's a 5 spd). It's seems weird to me that this car stays in HIGH Idle, even when the car is warm. It's in the teens outside. The engine insist on running in the 2,500 to 3,000 rpm range! If I were to stop at a light or a Stop Sign let's say, the engine up to full Temp, if I hung out there for a what I think is a long time the RPM's will come down to normal, let's say 850 RPM's or so. So....is THIS normal? What controls the High Idle on this car? Can it be something as simple as the throttle needs to be lubed? Because the cold Temps are contracting around throttle cable? Can that be? HELP!!! SubeeTed

Hi ALL! My 1997 GT 2.5 DOHC now needs a front CAT. Anyone have any good success with any sources? I've stubled upon these guy's here. Anyone familair with them? I know about 1st Subaru Parts, I can get one there for $476.00. Hi! This vehicle has had a MotorVac done by previouse owner. I might have to find one around here, might be difficult! It has good compression, 165#, 1st, 175# 2nd cylinders. I did the Coil Pack switch thing! The other car has a # 3 Misfire. I had hoped to have this code show up after the switch!! But NO! I still got #2! THX, SubeeTed

Hi all again, and again! I have a 1997 GT Legacy Wgn, with 2.5 Ltr, DOHC. It has 128K miles on it. This car is only 5 months old to me. mostly dealer maintained by last owner, I have ALL the paperwork! A few weeks ago it's CEL came on. OK...this made me go to my Buddy's garage, borrow Snap-on Computer OBDII checker, says #2 cylinder has misfire! When speaking with my buddy....he says "just needs a tune up"...I looked into ALL the paper work I had...it had it's 120K mile service in MArch, 4 new plugs (etc). This IS important to this discussion. So..........we put a set of plug wires in it! Why! Because in it's 128K miles of life, running original plug wires! Cleared code....code came back up in 30 miles! Ok, maybe it's the Coil PAck! I was in a pinch, don't want to run car with CEL on, Got USED Pack at salvage yard! Installled. Code comes back on in 30 miles or so! OK.....maybe we should check plug on #2, SO what if there are ALL NEW!! Check plug....had hard time figuring out why it won't come out easily!! WHY? Because it wasn't in all the way! Never had washer on plug crushed!!! Never installed all the way!! OK...so that was yesterday! We thought we had the problem solved!!! Code comes back on this AM!! I go to buddies.......SAME code #2 misfire!! So I reinstalled my old Coil Pack! Here I sit! I'll have 30 miles on it in the morning, I gaurautee that code will come back up!! I have changed the type of oil in this to GTX (5W30) High Milage! About 1K miles ago. I have also put in a K&N panel filter! I have heard strange things about NOT using a Subee filter....but that throughs a MAF Code!! ANY IDEAS???????????????????????? HELP!!! SubeeTed

Problem solved! This car is 5 months old to me. It had most of the work done by dealer from previous owner. He had the 120K mile service done back in March. Includes 4 NEW plugs! When dealer installed plug #2....it NEVER got seated!!!!! It has made it's way out in the time I've owned it! This was throwing "Misfire #2" code! I replaced the plug wires because of this code....this IS very weird, because in the 125K miles of dealer maintained life, plug wires NEVER changed!! I hate dealers!! THX gang!

Hi ALL Again. I just replaced my wires on my 1997 GT Legacy Wgn, DOHC. Code came back up anyhow.......MISFIRE #2 cylinder. I didn't want to drive it anymore like that....so I put in another Coil Pack! I had to go to the local slavage yard! They told me that the Coils for both the 2.2 AND 2.5 are the SAME?? So I got it,put it in, car runs ok. I've only put 10 miles on it....let's see if code comes back up? Anyhow.....me NOT beleiving salvage yard....I called locole dealer, they say that these parts are NOT the same.......of course this IS the dealer....they WILL say this sort of thing!!!??? SOOooo, here I am typing....and asking! Well are they?? Many thanks, SubeeTed

Hi ALL Again! My 1997 GT Leagcy Wgn just FLASHED it's check engine light! Let me back track....................a few weeks ago my check engine light came on. I went to my Buddies Garage, used his Snap-On engine computer. Found code to say something about 2nd ignition wire. I cleared code, DIDN'T replace the wire (Yet). I drove it around for another 150 miles, check engine light came back on, almost exactly were it came on the first time! So. I've ordered new wires....NEVER been replaced in the 127K miles of this car. I looked at the end of the wires at the Coil PAck, they are clean here. So today, I had errands to do. I kind of Got-on the accelarator for a bit......the Check Engine light starts flashing....then just goes back to being normaly on!! No overheating, full of oil. Is it just a reminder to simply replace that 2nd plug wire? I didn't go to my Buddies garage the second time the light came on. I just ASSumed that it was the same code coming up! Ya, I'm going to replace ALL the wires soon, the plugs only have 4K miles on them. HELP! SubeeTEd

Hi ALL ! My rear rotors and pads needed replacing. I'de like to do them myself. I found the steps here easy to follow, so, for the first time I'de like to save a few bucks and do them myself! I have an 1997 GT Legacy Wgn. 2.5 DOHC. So the questions is.................I've heard for years that ONLY use OEM Subee pads!! The logic being.....they don't sqeak!!! IS this TRUE? Or rumor!? If rumor....what are a decent set of pads for regular driving?? Rotors..............I've seen them on Ebay. Brembo's? Don't they make the OEM rotors for Subee? Any good???? If not, what to get??? Many, Many Thanks......SubeeTed

Hi ALL again! Well...................I decided to add Gumont's Gasline Cleaner (NOT the Injector cleaner) in my 1997 GT Legacy 2.5 DOHC. It was hesitate going up long hills.....if I didn't slap it back into 4th gear, when I added more throttle it sort of did nothing. Sometimes at low speeds it seemed lost, jurked forward. It's had it's rear 02 Sensor replaced back in March. So I put this cleaner in 100 miles....I JUST got my "Check Engine" light on just now! I don't know what code yet! I'm just wondering if using this would make it throw a code???? Help! Thanks, SubeeTEd

Hi all! My 1997 Legacy 2.5 Ltr Gt is having running problems. Sometimes in lower gears (it's a 5 Spd) it surges, hard to get smooth ride, I'm just slowly moving along when this happens. At 5th gear, with your going up a hill, it starts to hestitate, doesn't relly react to more throttle, I'll have to down shift. Are these O2 Sensor problems? I don't have a check engine light on right now.....I did a few weeks ago, I cleared IT at my mechanics. It was something about a bad reading from the CAT. We cleared code, hasn't come back. ANy hints???? Thanks, SubeeTEd

Hi and THANKS! I took this route that you'de tried here!! I think it works!! I pulled the headliner down.......tube NOT (Passengers side) connected! I looks like Subaru used a clear tube that shrinks with age! As in gets smaller, alot smaller! I pulled on the offending passengers side tube....as I let go...it started to shrink up immediatly! While I was doing this....I couldn't tell how it was supposed to be routed! SOoooooooooo I took apart the drivers side......tube NOT connected here either!!!! But it was close enough that I could tell the correct routing! So I put some silicone on the drivers side one, slipped it back on the frame of the Sunroof. Now the passengers side......I tugged on the tube alot, made it alot longer than it needed to be, I knew that it would just shrink up again. I used silicone again, but I knew that I really needed to secure it.....I found this tiny plastic zip tie, zip it on, trimmed the excess! Unfortunatly Subaru used an incorrect plastic for this job, as it gets older it shrinks! Not to mention that there is NO fastening device for the tube at the connection, plastic prong at the connection doesn't cut it after a while! Intereior panels are easy to take off. I used a painters 5in1 tool, worn. A putty knife would do, a dull one! I'de pop off some of the center trim, allow the front trim to come off easily(trim around door openings) . You have to be patient. The caps for the hang-on things for the passenger is a pain, twice, there are 2 of them! GOOD LUCK!

Hi all! I'm going to try and tackle my sun roof leak!! I'm going with the idea someone mentioned that maybe the drain hose (and snoop around some)has come off my 1997 GT Leagcy Wgn....anyhow! I hate playing with interior stuff! It's plastic! It wants to break! Often putting the stuff back is a horror show! Never looks rightagain! I've snooped around a little! I guess I need to take the "A" pillar trim off?! Just HOW do you do this?? Do you take a putty knife and convince that rope like trim off? I know I have to take the visor off, no big deal. Just how do you take that passengers "hold on" thing??? The grabber thing that sits above the window??? I don't want to guess my way through by experimantation on how this stuff is supposed come off! I'll destroy it!! I know many of you have done this!!! I'm looking for some insight from the experienced!!!??? HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! SubeeTed

1997 Legacy GT Wgn, power sun roof. Ok....................... so I cleaned my drains! Not much there! I have a pitch to my driveway, so when I did the pour the water next to the rails thing, I made sure that I only poured in the apropriate down-hill direction! They all seemed fine! Now it rained yesterday eve..! My car is parked pointing uphill! I get in it this AM, put my had in front of passengers visor.....WET!!! SOoooooooooooooo it must be the other rotten problem!!!! Dried out sealer underneath my rails!!!!! I've done the searches! I went to Legacy BB, were thier is now a DEAD link to a set-by step fix for this problem!! Can any of this sealing done from above? OR, is the ONLY way to fix, is to drag down the head liner!!?? I was told that you could fix from above.....just SIMPLY loosen rail screws, convince silicone under rails? How many screws are there? Just were are they? YA! I know this is a common problem! I wish there was a one stop clearing house on how to fix this!!! Dealers SUCK!!! SubeeTed
