  1. OK Bought a 91 4WD Loyale (automatic wagon 1.8 NON-turbo) about a year ago....drove it home(about 40 miles) and ran fine. Parked it about a year Started it now and then. ready to put on the road so I did timing belts, cam shaft seals, plugs cap and rotor. Started and ran fine...drove it and the check engine light came on---box under dash was blinking 3-2 (oxygen sensor?) and 3-5 (purge control solenoid?). Next time I test drove it (a few days later...the check engine light starts BLINKING and the under dash box is giving me 7 fast blinks repetitively. A week later I test drive it----and the light comes on---and now I have SIX codes blinking!!---32,33,42,45,51 and 61...what the heck is going on?If I start it and just let it idle for a while....engine light stays off but box is blinking 7 fast blkinks Except for a little bit of rough idle during cold starting ,,,,car seems to run good (have not insured it nor driven it a lot--just test drives of 4-5 miles). Also...have a rythmic sound which I am guessing is a bearing but how can you be sure ...and which wheel?...turn steering wheel slighly to right and its a little louder...turn slightly left and a bit quiter thanks Bill
  2. I am sure this subject has been exhausted...but....what besides camshaft seals and water pump should be replaced when doing timing belts? crank seal?...how does it come out /go in are camseals aseasy to replace as on loyale? what tools are a necessity? thanks
  3. yep...my 95 legacy does the same...reads just about full when filled....but drops prematurely fast....... as nice and better as the new suby's are (I started owning them since 1980)....there seems to be quite a few issues with the newer models....the older ones were amazing
  4. my Dad just bought a 92 with 121K on it and the light does the same... will check codes when I have a chance
  5. I love the screw adjusters for tightening the "fan" belts on the 95 Legacy I recently bought.....after 23 years driving subarus, it's a nice addition But, it seems one could easily overtighten them...anyoner have a feel for it?
  6. going to get it tested today I would call the dealer about the possible recall...but it has no subaru markings on it...I assume it is a rebuilt could get a rebuilt from a local shop for 130 + tax---but local junkyard has one from wreck for 60 thanks for the input so far
  7. I have a 95 legacy....I want to replace the timing belts...any info on this website that I can print to do the job? I am well versed on doing the Loyale type (even made my own adjusting tool to attach to my torque wrench) but not the legacy What else (besides the camshaft seals) should be replaced?w waterpump?
  8. I have a 95 Legacy L...(no gauge)...wife had car and died....jumped it and it ran about 1 minute and died again....no lights (batt dead)---at time of jump starting,, it was then that she noticed the Batt llight on but also the "brake" light was on Batt is not too old and 850 CCA was towed home....I am assuming the alternator is bad...I think it may be overcharging charged battery ...didn't seem to take a good charge Started car and let it idle for an hour....both lights still on I put volt meter across batt terminals before starting car and was 13.4 V Started car and was 12.75V Just about same voltage when touching terminal on alt and ground(not sure that tells anything) After car was running an hour...Voltage was about 12.1 Anyone help ??..thanks in advance Bill
  9. theotherskip: howmuch does it cost? is it easy to install? where can it be purchased thx bgam

  11. Years ago I bought a repair manual that was printed by John Muir publications....was for the 85-88 GL version. You could use your Haynes/chilton for fire starter---this was one great book...very clear and detailed. I think he had published VW books also. Anyone know if he/they are still in business?
