  2. hey if you guys deside to do a sunday run up there let me know, i'm interested in going again. hey scoobyclimbs, if you deside to go up to parksdale on some sunday let me know i would love to go up there too. i only got my dd going right now but i took it up there when me and pooparu went and good on the trails we went on.
  3. i've owned my first sooby for 11 years which i just lifted a couple years ago, my parents have always thought it was a good car. then i bought an 89 dl wagon about a year ago. well last year my dad bought a 91' lagacey for my mom to upgrade her out of her old car (datsun 510) and she loves it alot. then late last year i sold my dl wagon to my dad and he loves it except for the fact that i need to do the timimng belts and an oil pump. recently my sister bought an 87 gl wagon that she loves too. i have recently ( well in january) bought an 84 wagon as a daily driver which now has 14" pugs w/ aggressive snow/mud tires and the suspension tweeked up. BTW my whole family (me, dad, mom, brother and sister) was in to datsun 510's (the early ones) ever since i bought my first one the summer i graduated high school in 83'. so my family has been baptized into subarus from datsuns except my brother, he hasn't seen the light yet and converted over. lol . seems odd my parents are always following my foot steps sorta speak
  4. nice pics looks like you guys had an awesome time, thats a fun place. been through that mud hole down in the trees a couple of weeks ago with pooparu (earl), have some video but haven't put it up yet. hey scrap nice monster soob pic there at the first. whats going on there with the piece of wood and looks like a sledge hammer or axe in the pic? man wish you guys would have gone up tomorrow (Sunday) i would have joined you but work comes first, need to pay to play, right
  5. awesome dude, looks good. keep us posted on your work with pics.
  6. i just think its awhatchamacallit. ya its a splash guard my 89 dl wagon had one and my sisters 87 gl had one too. pass. side front but more in the center like everyone else is saying.
  7. dam you beat me to it i was thinking of having something like that made up too. hey mick you going to be selling those sickers to the general public????? btw your sedan is looking sweet nice job and thats a nice looking hatch too.
  8. was out there about 4 months ago got stopped by the cops after about 15-20 minutes and was told it was over $400 ticket for bieng out here the cop said the owner knew people where coming out and he didn't want them on the land. he let me go then went over and talked to a man and his two kids that we're following me around watching us. did say anything about washing the mud off the street though. it seemed as if the owner might live near by and calls the cops for as quick as they came out, it wasn't like they just was driving by either because from where we was at you couldn't see us from palmquist we was down in the trees play in the big mudhole and down in the ruts. its to bad i kinda like it there its close to home but i agree didn't the garbage though.
  9. yeah so far so good with the bushings, some of the bolts are alittle bent from pounding hard against some rocks but nothings broke yet. knock on wood.
  10. thats a sweet looking hatch, real clean.
  11. besides helping when climbing, they are also needed for deep mud holes and when you get the car twisted in those awckard positions going into ruts, over logs, roots, rocks or that deep rut on the leftside on a climb were your right tire loses traction and the weight of the car. welding the diff is very useful and i'm with everyone else it doesn't take long to get the axle in and out. a minor inconvience ( if any, not for me though) for what you gain on the trail.
  12. i used some real aggresive studded tires that we're rated for snow/mud and took out the studs but i also had the adjustable struts so i had a little more ground clearance, that combo worked out really well. the big problem though was not having complete traction in the rear so i was limited on some trails. it would do alot better if you welded the rear end and take out the axle for the street. that was on my 86 ea82 wagon, about a 1-1/2 years ago i lifted it (homemade cheapy), put 15 mts on it and welded the rear end. its a monster now. i got an 84 wagon this past january and ran the same 13" snow tires on it from my other wagon with the suspension cranked up. it work really good but still limited. now i'm running 14" blizzaks on pugs on it and im going to put an LSD rear end in it so it can still be run on the street without taking an axle out. it needs something (LSD or welded) for traction especially for climbing or when you get a rear wheel up in the air, needs that traction from the other wheel or your stopped and have to push it back. been there done that.
  13. well i haven't done it to my 84 sooby wagon yet not sure if i'm going to but i did put non adjustable kyb's in with a coil spring spacer under the spring to make up for the non adjustment. however, my 86 ea82 wagon when i originally put it together with the stock adjustable struts i drilled out the strut bearing plate so i could put longer grade 8 bolts in and used rancho shock mount bushings which we're 1 1/2" long. i then took a die grinder with a burr grinding bit and elongated the holes in the strut towers in towards the engine so i could kick the top of the struts in. this took out alot of the positive camber can't remember how much but i think when i did the alignment it was down to about 1/2-1 degree positive. i have since replaced the struts with kyb's they we're to worn out, so i still need to put spacers under the springs to make up for the non adjustment. as far as axles go, i do eat them but don't care doesn't cost me that much and i haven't really got to investigating anything else at the moment but will someday i will. don't know if this helps or answers any questions, but i like my sooby this way. alot of my friends that run jeeps, samuris and toyotas are envious of my ground clearance and are quite impressed with what i have been able to do with it when i go wheelin with them and i have gone on some pretty narly trails that they tried to wave me around. i know that this setup is kinda backyard/getto like and i had planned on doing something more permanent but it works so right now it stays the way it is.
  14. most subarus are allowed up to 2 degrees of positive camber as its max. range for + camber. some models are a little more some a little less. but yes there are no adjustments on the loyale or older subarus
  15. thats a sweet looking wagon nice score man. i like that bushman brushguard it looks awesome, makes me wish i would have bought one of the ones that subarutex was advertising for sale awhile back.
  16. nope i don't know of any. i've look on website and there is nothing in that area as far as an orv park the closes would be up around mt. rainier going north and of course browns camp which you already know of. so just have to terrorize the logging roads.
  17. junk yards that i deal with tell me they usually scrap out the rims unless they are ones that are money makers. you can always ask if they will hold you a set the next time they get one of thise rigs in, give them your phone number so they can call you. i did that on some subaru stock white spoke rims but i did take a month or 2 as i recall.
  18. awesome, i can't wait either. may have to go check it out a little earlier.
  19. i know browns camp has camping. i don't think there is any rv hookups but they do have outhouses.
  20. sweet looking bumper and i like the black and tan.
  21. sorry, subarus aren't the only vehicles with outer tire wear but bad parts aren't the only things that cause it that. newer subarus with all wheel drive also have outer tire wear issues too so its not just the old ones.
  22. outside edge wear is not always associated with just bad balljoints, it is also associated with bad tie-rods and also bad alignment.
  23. awesome videos nicky, need to find that place it looks awesome. i've done a little tree smashing before.
  24. Thats one sick looking sedan you got there. nice videos, too. QUOTE: two more reasons it's my dream to move to australia.. 1: the terrain 2: the accent...it's so cool. Dude i'm with you there you guys down under rock but oregon does have some awesome terrain too, just not the the accent.
  25. well, the first thing you might want to do is jack the car up and support it on a jack stand. shake your wheels from side to side this will detect bad tie-rods and bad wheel bearings. then grab the top and bottom of the tire and do an in and out with the tire, this will detect bad wheel bearings and possible balljoints. then take something to pry with (long piece of wood 2x4, 4x4 or pipe) and put it up against the bottom of your tire and move your tire up and down look at your balljoints while doing so to see if your balljoints have any play in the joint itself. popping could be a balljoint the grinding could be wheel bearings or both. when you have it jacked up take your wheel off and see if you can see any place where it looks like something is grinding metal away. theres a starting point for you to do a self check of front end components. you should always take a look at things to see if there is something obvious happening, sometimes things will show themselve when you jack a car up and do alittle shaking around and pull a tire off.
