I believe the 2 shaft drive line will work as long as you weld in the middle mount. But the single drive shaft has to be custom made? correct me if I'm wrong.

no turbo coup, theres 2 80 sub's a hatch back, and a wagon, both 4spd 4wd... and a 4spd frount wheel drive hatch back, looks 81... and some 83 or 84 wagon. None of them are in any decent shape.

lol yeah, sure seams like it. I found a short block that I'm going to snatch, I'm still waiting on a PM for that one.

wow! good job, I think it took me 8 months to find one for the black car.

the ea81t coup I have Isn't going to be an automatic for long. Eventally I have plans to convert it to a 5spd RX tranny. With a limited slip rear end. And yes, I can agree they are rare, Finding an ECU for one is IMPOSSIBLE! lol, I can't wait to get it off the driveway though. Pictures can be found by the link in my signature.

Whos Got the Most Miles
Mr. Carb replied to Bobby_boucher's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
The brat has 235k on it now, not orginal engine though, previous owner decided to insure that by driving the car without oil. -
What do people think of your engine bay?
Mr. Carb replied to Syonyk's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I've gotten a few people to laugh at my car when they found out my spare tire is stored under the hood. My engine is missing all but the pvc valve as far as emissions devices go, so the intake manofold is really bare. And the engine block was clean until I had misc leaks spring here and there over the last 2 years. -
No Crank No Start unless I jump from solenoid?
Mr. Carb replied to sregor13's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
yeah, in the turbo coup, I noticed when I played with the (in this car pink) connector for the ignition switch wich was half melted by the way, it started to work a little more relaibly, then, lately, it's not working again, even after playing with it. Once I get the moter all back together I'm going to work on it some more, this could be in another 2 weeks or so. Brat has been taking up alot of my time lately. Will be chuggin back again on the coup monday hopefully. -

I'm having the same weird problem with the coup, sometimes it starts, and sometimes it doesn't, but if I jump the battery + terminal on the starter to the silonoid it starts without issue... Problem seems to exist between the ignition and the wire, I have yet to do any trooble shooting on it yet. Been focused on getting it through emissions. I will return to this post when I make findings.. -
Pulling the engine in the 84 turbo
Mr. Carb replied to Mr. Carb's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
That sounds like a good idea, Thanks Rob:) And thanks to everyone for helping me out with this project, I really appreciate it. Fuel rails have to come off, and so does the intake manofold, thats my next step. I will probably work on it on monday, I'll keep this updated. -
Pulling the engine in the 84 turbo

yeah, I figure it's going to make a mess, but at this point, I just want the car done... the brat is suffering way to much lol. -

crap! a little late to do that now. only thing on the top of the engine block is the intake manofold and fuel system. I'll probably just let it spray out a little... on a hose thats in a safe and easy to clean up spot. -
Pulling the engine in the 84 turbo

That would be Great! When I have a vehicle capible of making it down there I will let you know. Brat is dead now too I'm planning on getting the brat running to the point of making a freeway trip by tomarrow night hopefully... it has a really bad wheel bearing right now. So once thats done I can make it down. -
Working on pulling the engine out (I know I'm slow!) of the 84 coup finally to get the headgaskets replaced... And, I'm wondering if this is a PVC failer. I found that oil is all over the inside of the air pipe between the air filter and the turbo... Not after the turbo, before... After the turbo things were actually pretty clean. Looks like most of it came up through a hose that runs through a bunch of stuff I don't reconise that also has a hose connected to the intake manofold, and to the head breather port. So I'm asuming this is a bad pvc or sign of a bad pvc? it was all puddled around the plug where the hose went into the pipe, and no where else, so I know it came up though this hose. - Anyway Progress of the engine is comming along smoothly. Only thing on the top half left to disconnect is the a/c compressor, and the power steering, I'm just gonna push them off to the side, I don't really want to disconenct their hoses. While the engine is out, I plan to replace all coolant lines, preferbly with thoes special red hoses, I'm tempted to do the vacume lines, but they look alright to me. I'm replacing the transmission cooling lines as well so it stops leaking tranny fluid. Also replacing the starter moter, sense I have a spare and that one, is a bit flaky, not sure yet if it's really a problem of wireing or the starter, I'll find out soon. --Fuel system? I know when the moter runs, sense it's multi-port fuel injected, it runs at a high pressure. Is this thing going to be pressureised after sitting for a week? And What other interesting things should I be careful about when I disconnect the fuel system, pull the engine, and remove the heads? Injectors are in the heads, so they'll have to either come out, or get disconnected from the fuel rails in some way or another... I wish I had a book on a ea81 turbo engine but I don't. Anyway, thanks for the help.

Brat's engine and blowby problems...
Mr. Carb replied to Mr. Carb's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I suspect it's a valve. Likily the one on the drivers side for piston #4. Last time I pulled up the intake manofold, there was a bunch of black down the one side of the head's intake port, indicating a valve wasn't sealing all the way, or something was malfunctioning. The moter is still very peppy for an ea81, it easily gets the car up to 70mph on the freeway. It's just losing oil doing so. I'm going to tear into it after I have another car to drive to work and back. -
Looking for the guy who has my old doors!
Mr. Carb replied to Mr. Carb's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
yeah, Austin told me someone picked up a bunch of doors, he didn't realise my brat doors were the ones they picked up. One of the wagon doors was still sitting there though... His mom thought they were mine. I was like uhhh, no mine are aparently gone now... hmmm. So someone picked up a bunch of doors, and mine were a pair of them. :-\ I went over there just before the roofers came. -
Hey, Someone claimed my brat doors when they were sitting at austin's before I had a chance to pull the lower body plate and trim off of them, Who ever has them? I was hoping I could get the trim pieces and the lower body "armor" off of them. I would like to keep that orginal on my brat when I get the body repaired and painted. Thanks to who ever has em. I hope they didn't get to far yet. P.S. It was a suprise to me that they were gone when I went to pick them up. Austin mastakenly let someone have them is my understanding, it's really no big deal if I can't get the parts back though, just means the brat won't be orginal when I'm done.

Brat's engine and blowby problems...
Mr. Carb replied to Mr. Carb's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
It beltches blue smoke when I get heavy on the throttle for instance, getting on the freeway. No oil is actually around the air filter... or in the intake pipe. So it's getting in around the valves or past the piston rings. -
Brat's engine and blowby problems...
Mr. Carb replied to Mr. Carb's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I'm thinking it's probably a broken ring, or it just suddenly progressed. It had a little bit of blowby previously. It's a really old moter to my understanding so I think the rings just hit that point in life where they completly die. I think I'll check the pcv valve though... when it's daylight out.
