  1. if it's a water cooled turbo, it's probably the same da....rn... hose that went on mine.
  2. Woops! typo, Yeah, 36mm is what I meant to say.... (I'm on a laptop with one of thoes compressed keyboards.)
  3. no I don't sorry, but I believe they're the same as manual as well, in the ea81's they're the same... no matter what tranny they have.
  4. spffff... axles are nothin, both axles on my brat have ripped boots... I wish that was all that was wrong with my turbo lol. just look at it this way, 45 minutes, a hammer, 3/16th punch, breaker bar, 35mm socket, and a 14mm wrench and socket will have that sucker replaced in around 45minutes....
  5. the turbo charger, I replaced the old one with this one, because the old one was spewing coolant into the exhaust, shortly after I replaced it, the car ran great, and didn't lose any coolant, until the upper coolant hose sprung a pinhole leak... and ran the car dry of coolant in less than half a mile. At the point of wich the temp gauge stoped recording a 180 degree or more temprature, I got the car off, because that suggested to me it ran so dry of coolant that it was no longer flowing through the heater core hose. the car only ran with the leak like that for 10 minutes at most, it was a short drive, and it happened on the way to the shop to get it wavered. Anyway, replaced the coolant hose, and now it's back to rushing coolant out the exhaust pipe, so I'm wondering if the turbocharger blew its water seal when it over heated? I know the turbocharger over heated. The engine it's self appears to run fine otherwise. But I suspect the turbocharger because it also doesn't sound quite right when it spools up anymore.
  6. Ok, I don't know much about ea82t units, so I want to hear what others think of this problem. The car puff's white smoke when it runs, even after warm up, and also drips coolant out the exhaust, when I rev it, it'll leave a puddle the size of a basket ball on the ground out the tailpipe. If the turbo unit overheated, would it leak water like this down the pipe and out the back? it's been doing this sense it blew the upper turbo coolant hose when I was on my way to the shop. Or, could it difinataly be a headgasket problem? This car is an ea81t, but it's upgraded to a water cooled ea82 turbo unit.
  7. just updating info about it... Found out the ecm in the coup is fried. the error code light is stuck on as smart service mentioned to me. It gives out a solid 1.2 volts to the o2 sensor when it's only suposed to give out 0.6 volts they say. So I'm lookin for a new one. Check the market place for my thread. The upper coolant hose for the turbo sprung a leak, Going to try to get a replacement. Turbone? Do you know if thats a specific hose for that car or a car, or is it a custom hose? I'll check back for a responce, thanks.
  8. just to be clear, the d/r 4spd tranny's or the 5spds for that matter, have no center diff. they're locked in 4wd mode... so if the front over-all rotation is faster or slower than the rear, it's going to bind up.
  9. theres no adjustment screw on an ea81t maf anyway. Uhh, it's passing idle, it's failing in the CO(%) at cruise, everything else passes now. the catlyst takes care of HC's from my understanding. And it appears to have one. I posted a seperate thread to talk more about this particular topic with emissions. Thanks for the help.
  10. I replaced the turbo unit last night that I got from Corkey. Thanks Corkey! It was a sucess, doesn't leak anything what so ever. Found a screw stuck in the exhaust turbine on the turbocharger that was in there. (woops) I'm thinking about hauling the car off to Smart Service in Lake forest park to handle the emissions problem, at most they can waver it. Only 2 other things left to do to that car, 1. fix the tranny leak, 2. patch the hole in the rear exhaust pipe. I can't wait to get it out on the road. As far as the emissions goes, it passes Idle now, but still runs to much CO(%) at cruise (1800 rpms - 2500rpms) Any ideas? obvious things have been done, replaced: spark plugs, plug wires, disturbuter cap and roter, air filter, and O2 sensor. thankyou everyone for all the wonderful help this board has given me.
  11. Hmmm, I need to lean out my ea81 turbo, I don't know if it's MAF has an adjustment screw on it or not, Will have to look. Everything else has been replaced at this point except the MAF and the throttle position sensor. Passes Idle. But it's a little to rich when it's dynoed at 25mph running around 1800 rpms. I haven't been able to find any service manuals that even talk about the ea81 mpfi turbos.....
  12. I did a power steering conversion on my brat, the cross membors have a slight diffrence that I saw. I was hoping to swap the rack my self, but Had to just put the whole cross membor in. The fluid Lines have a bracket thats bolted to the crossmembor. On the none power steering cross membors, there are no holes or threads for the bolts holding the bracket, and there are also no slots for the PS lines to go through. I'm sure if you wanted to cut and weld it can be done. But I found it easier to just swap crossmembors, because they're only held in place by 4 bolts. I managed to do it with the engine still in the car infact. With 2 floor jacks, and carefull lifting of the moter about an inch. Basically, theres 4 bolts holding the cross membor to the frame. one bolt on each side for each control arm. Engine Mounts (2 bolts) and the exhaust y-pipe might get in your way, so you might want to pull that off too, (6 bolts). I spent a total time of 90 minutes doing the swap. Works Great. Hope this information is helpful.
  13. Sad! Well, intake gaskets arn't to much work. Mine were bad when I got the car running. Got two new ones and put them in. I didn't quite get the part where you said it was hesitating even when level. I must have missed it when I read the first post. Oh well, we know the problem now right?
  14. the float... may be affected by the gravity of the turn. My brat does it too if I corner hard enough.
  15. Theres a valve on the intake manofold, not sure where on a Loyall, but, it's black, normally sits on top of the t-stat housing, and has a wire going into it. Thoes get stick, and effect the fuel mixture greatly at idle when the car is cold or warm. It's called the AAC valve. on the ea81t's and ea82's fuel injected models. All fuel injected cars to my knowlege have them. My dad has a ford crown vic that has one of them and it went bad, made it so it wouldn't idle when cold as well.
  16. I'm passing up that offer, I've done to much work to it, and like it to much:-p
  17. So, I've got it passing idle emissions now, wich is difinataly an improvement, and a sign of hope. When it cruises, it still runs way rich once it cruises. I'm wondering if the mass airflow sensor has no spring, so it easily opens all the way, making the computer think it's breathing better, so it dumps to much fuel... Thats my next part to inspect. What fixed the idle emissions was the aac valve. old one was stuck. So I'm getting some where! I'm excited. Anyway, just throwing out an update incase someone was curious.
  18. Ok, I looked all around, Didn't have any luck finding one yet. I'll look again tomarrow, but theres difinataly nothing electrical near the distrubuter aside from the distrubuter it's self.
  19. Ok, thanks, I'll go check that out, It's Not the same sender as the sender that tells the dash gauge what to read is it?
  20. lol yeah, Well, kinda, that was, I wasn't sure what you meant by the spare tire mount. For some reason I was thinking on the giant wing nut screw. I'm way too out of it these days.
  21. Ok, well, the aac valve did nothing diffrent when unpluged or plugged in, Grabed a spare one austin had lying around, wich did go click when I plugged it in, So, I changed them, the car seems to run a bit better now. I found the abiant temprature sensor, it's on the turbo sheild attached to the tire mount cross bar, right? Also, what does the cts thing... do? Sorry, I'm short termed memory here, and this is the first fuel injected car I've ever tackled. Thanks for the help and patiance with me.
