I got a couple of recent pictures of my old brat finally. Check em out: http://www.eskimo.com/~carl/garage/Brat/7-4-2006.html I'll be getting some pictures of my XT up as well. It's under going some resealing with the intake manofold. the gaskets that go between the water pipe and the intake manofold blew... so it's a big coolant leak right there.

I picked a new mirror up from one of the only 2 ea81 cars at pap, 7 bucks. And it was an electric mirror. Looks like I actually came out ahead. I don't feel shameful at all for ripping that guy off. -

I talked to their dad, he frankly took one look at me, and one look at my car... and decided I wasn't worth his time. He gave me 20 bucks and said it should cover my mirror. -

EA81T Wagon Woes (Pics added 4/19/05)
Mr. Carb replied to carfreak85's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
On the ea82's I can think of something worse coolant related. That gasket that mates the intake manofold with the seperate coolant passage pipe that feeds the heater core hose. -
Patience can pay...

Whats funny is, I JUST replaced that exact same hose in the XT, MAN thoes are a real pain in the ... a. I ended up just pulling the turbo charger all the way out to do it. -
Don't worrie, I'm not giving up on it. :-p Theres just thoes moments where... I wanna damage something. I'm doing both the lower hose and upper turbo hose, sense the upper one looks like crap and is only 7 bucks. I'm going to hope nothing else breaks until next month... Then I will replace all remaining coolant lines. Got my new power steering pump in the mail today too. Well not new, it's used but it looks alot better than the one thats in there now. I spent 32 bucks on the special hose with the heat sheilding on it. It better last.
-
Anyone want my car? it keeps blowing coolant lines left and right. This time it's the lower turbo hose. What do you guys think I could get for this car anyway?
-
Yeah, the water pump bearing seal on my XT decided to start gushing coolant all over the cross over pipe. Drains the radiator within 5 minutes. Are these pumps anymore trouble than replacing an ea81 water pump? I want to figure out how much work I'm getting my self into before I actually set aside a chunck of time for it.

Yay for new pictures of the XT

Yeah, I'll have to look around for thoes H4 replacement lamps. Intercooling however will probably be a nice summer project to happen before WCSS8 -

H4 lamps, Difinataly, Intercooling, Difinataly! However, this is all happening when money comes availible -
I uploaded a couple new pictures. I installed some driving lights on the car. Found out the hard way that the stock fog lamp switches from the 87 and newer XT's are slightly too big for the slots on the 86 center councle switch panels. I filed down some extra plastic and got it to fit. Pictures are here: http://usmb.net/gallery/skrewedcomputer
-
Ok, I have to remove the center councle anyway so I can put my fog light switch in. I checked the cable linkage on the heater box. The gear the cable moves appears to be jammed. I can't get it to move very much. I'm tempted to pull the cable cover off and see if something fell in there jamming the gears. This did happen right after I put some wires through right above it for the fog light switch. I found out that 86 XT's don't have the stock places for fog lights, or the fog light wireing. It appears to be an 87 and newer XT thing. But yeah, Maybe I'll be able to make it down tuesday evening, or sometime. Maybe I can take a peak at the ea81 turbo book you said you have too, and see if I can get the t-coup to run again.

Cool! Yeah, sounds like theres a short on an engine sensor somewhere, I'd start with the mass airflow sensor, and the coolant temp sensors, and go from there.
-
I posted this on the xt6.net board, but theres diffrent people there and here so I'd thought I'd throw this out here too see what people think is going on. My temp control slider has been working smoothly and fine sense I got the car. This is a 1986 XT turbo 4wd. Suddenly the other day, I went to move the slider from the hot position to the cold position. And now it won't go back into the hot position. It feels like the cable maybe slipped, I'm not sure. But it sticks when sliding back to the hot position. It always blows cold now, if it's all the way in the hot position, I can feel like the heater flap is almost opening as a slight amount of heat mixed with cold outside air blows through. I can hear a flap moving when I push it to the cold position, but the slider hits a stopping point mid way through the cool air section, and it will not go all the way forward like it used to. Did something fall apart in there? or has the cable just slipped on me? I'm hoping I won't have to tear out all of the dash to get this fixed. Thank you for this boards vast knowledge!

Hey, are you the guy who has that red xt on creigs list? Sounds like the same problem anyway. I'd start unplugging sensors until the fuse stops blowing. Sounds like theres a shorted sensor, or wire harness someware.

Picked up an '86 Subaru XT Turbo
Mr. Carb replied to Mr. Carb's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Thats Him! I found his Add on creigs list not knowing he was anywhere else. But yeah, Thats the car, same license plate. -
My new daily driver, I got an 86 Subaru XT Turbo. It has a push button 4wd 5spd manual tranny, power everything and the A/C blows cold. It has the Digi-dash as well. With a trip computer. Here are some pictures... http://usmb.net/gallery/album279 It has a few bad switches, the high beam switch likes to pop out into the high beam mode. And the mirror control switch has a broken arrow switch. Horn works, but Cruise control doesn't. Came with a spare center councle wich has a fog light switch in it, it looks like a stock subaru fog light switch. I'm thinking about using the switch for fog lights on the car. What do ya guys think of it?
