  1. So you have the stock t-fitting and the one thats in there now came with the aftermarket gauge? I'm interested in the stock t-fitting:grin:
  2. Ok, Sorry my memory sort of lost it's self. The fact that the head is factory, Makes me feel alot better. Thanks Rob! I didn't remember the details on that factory fitting. Monday: Next stop is Carter Subaru, where I will hopefully be able to find a coolant hose kit for the moter. I plan to get every coolant line replaced. I might want to do the vacume lines too, But not sure if I really want to get that complicated. I'll be looking into it for sure. I'll be posting more pics As I progress with getting this engine together and in the car. That poor parts guy almost knows me by name now
  3. Yeah, I don't remember where, but they have a huge list of zipcodes where emissions testing is required. If your zip code isn't on the list, you're home free.
  4. Ahhhh! Neato... Ok. Thanks Rob. I'm thinking about finding a second one of thoes T-fittings. Another question btw, did the dealership do the coolant upgrade on that or did you do it? I was curious how the passenger side head was done for the coolant line, Did it require a drilling and a tap, or does the head come factory with the bolt there ready for a coolant line?
  5. Yeah, mine wasn't hooked up at all, thats why I wanted to see pictures of where it was hooked up. In the heater core hose Rob installed an aftermarket coolent temp sender and gauge in the car. But other than that, theres nothing extra in the heater core lines. The upper turbo coolant line, they actually made a specific hose that was bent in the right spots to come from the t-stat houseing and go to the turbo. I Saw it on atleast 3 diffrent ea81t engines when I was lookin for pictures, so I know they make a specific hose. Mine even had it, until the hose blew. Now I just have a peice of bulk hose that rubs against the fan. I'm going to check with the dealership parts guy on tuesday, or monday. But yeah, no dash temp sensor was ever hooked up after the water cooling modification.
  6. Ok, yeah, mine looks like it's a standerd water setup, I've seen it the exact same way on so many ea81t's now, when I went looking around on the internet for ea81 turbo engine pictures. But Never saw a good look at where the temp sender for the dash was moved. I also need to figure out where to get a new upper coolant hose that isn't bent rubbing against the fan, because they actually had a standerd hose I noticed, same shape on every moter I saw, and mine had the same hose, so I'm thinking about going to Carter and asking them if they might find one. Thanks for getting thoes pictures in advanced! :-)
  7. yeah, I saw that one, No pictures... I was looking for actual pictures because I was having a hard time pictureing how that worked from a discription. Thanks though!
  8. Does anyone happen to have any pictures of a water cooled ea81 turbocharger on their engine? I'm trying to figure out where the coolant lines are really suposed to go, sense I can't really find a replacement hose for the upper cooling line. The ones auto stores show me are alot diffrent than the one that used to be on the car. For that matter, just pictures in general of the intake manofold and turbo charger on the ea81t's. I'm trying to get a feel as to how they're put together. Thanks!
  9. Hey Jerry so far so good, this is the moter thats missing that plug by the way. The moter seems to have really good compression and clean oil. The oil pump I put on it pumps so well that just hand cranking the engine with a breaker bar and no plugs in makes the oil pump crank out oil wich is pretty impressive for it only rotating half the speed the crank is, When by hand! But yeah, Cleaned it up real good, you can click on the link at the top of this thread to view pictures of it.
  10. so it is 14mm, ok. I'm gonna try calling Tocoma Nut and Screw and see if they have one, and look at other tool places I might find in the yellow pages.
  11. yeah, I was looking for an allen wrench. No one carries anything between the size of 12mm and 17mm... Everyone is telling me it's a specialty tool and I can't get it. Went to action auto, went to Sear's tool center... I'm checking with Harbour freight today.
  12. they made some 83's they just didn't have water cooled turbo chargers... According to the book I read on the subaru 83/84 turbo coups, is the 84's got water cooled turbo chargers in the later half of 84 because of oil boiling problems.
  13. BY the way... in thoes pictures, you'll notice the hex plug is missing on the left side of the engine there? infront of piston 1. I want to take the one off the old moter, but I haven't had luck finding the tool for that Anyware, anyone have any Ideas where to get that tool?
  14. Yeah, I'm thinking thoes heads will be alright. I'm going to rebuild the old engine, rings, bearings and all. That way I have a spare moter lying around waiting to be droped in when the new one kicks the dust.
  15. http://usmb.net/gallery/album249 My current progress on the t-coup, is seen on the above link. I had to find a replacement moter as the previous moter pretty much killed it's self when it overheated. I will keep updating more pics as I do more work. Tomarrow I'm hopefully going to have the engine assembled and ready to drop in. What do ya guys think of that nice shiny engine block? huh?
  16. I've got that black one now... parts for those things are almost impossible to find.
  17. My brat is doing the exact same thing... I haven't been able to figure it out either, I think theres suposed to be a fuel shutoff valve in the carbrator thats no longer working, or something. I know it's not the fuel pump continuing to run after the car is shut off, so I've ran out of ideas.
  18. I don't know if anyone's thought of this yet, But I remember when austin had a simular accident in his first subaru, it would bend the rear wheel the same way, and the cause of it was the mustache bar, wich is the bar that mounts both sides and the rear diff I believe. Anyway he managed to bend it twice before he decided to sell that car. It would do the same thing, make the rear wheel sit in crooked maner. And make the car crab drive.
  19. Thoes moters are overhead cam, driven by timming belts. If they are broken, the engine will not fire due to a lack of valves opening or closing. It's sounding like that may be the problem. The belts are behind that big black plastic cover on the front of the engine. Might want to pop one side off and take a look, Or do a compression test, see if anything shows up.
  20. To get the axle out, I just put the center nut on backwords, but not all the way, just most of the way, then take a claw hammer to it and tap it out. Knocks it out with ease. When putting the new one in, I greese up the bearings and the shaft, and it pretty much slides right in. Sometimes it'll hang on the outer bearing, then it just takes some severe negotionation to get it all the way through, Usally when I get it far enough out to thread the center nut on, I'll just use a breaker bar to pull it through by tightening the center nut. I've only lost one wheel bearing in a cv axle replacement, and that was due to the center nut threads on the axle being cross threaded (used axle) and the metal shavings from the cone washer got into the bearings and screwed them over.
  21. I really hate it when insurance companys try to pull that crap. They did it to my dad when someone rear-ended him in his Ford Torus. Insurance company did the same thing, only wanted to give him about 400 bucks for it. Even though the car was in brand new condition before the accident. On a note, the dealer ship may only pay 400 bucks for it, but they'll sell it for about 1,800 bucks. The dealership market works like that. They'll say they'll only take it for a low amount, then sell it at a higher than blue book value. If I gave them my brat, they'd only give me 100 bucks for it, but they'd difinataly sell it for a good 3-4,000 bucks. So yeah, Difinatly do what everyone's suggesting, get the actual market values, blue book values, Here in the Seattle-tocoma area market and confront them with it. I frequently see 81-84 subaru wagons, manual, autos, in any condition, selling for atleast 800 bucks. I rarely see them ever lower than that. Usallaly they're in the 1200-2500 range. Depending on milliage and condition. I wish you good luck on this, and hope that insurance company doesn't rip you off.
  22. I'm hearing Michelin tires (sp?) are one of the best all seasons around, that they last almost 100k miles? anyone had expirence with thoes?
  23. LOL yeah, I know about the all terrans but they don't have that one in the size I was looking for. I was thinking about trying the all seasons, sense the turbo coup will be a street car/rally mostly.
