  1. the toyo all seasons on the 15inch pugs I have died. they started losing air due to cracking rubber between the treads. So, I put regular 13" rims back on the brat with snowtires sense I had the set doing nothing. I was thinking about getting some BFG all seasons for the pugs, and throw them on the turbo coup. What do you guys think?
  2. bolt the exhaust on good and tight, works as long as the head studs arn't stripped.
  3. Ahhh, ignition strength has a big part in it, ok. My coil isn't very strong so I'm replacing it. I think it's gotten way to old. I'll give the car a good ol tune up. Thanks for the info!
  4. I just descovered with my Trip to Jerry's and back, that my car ('84 Brat) only is misfireing when it's in the higher elevations. I had all sorts of lack of power problems there and back. But it started running normally again once I got down into the Puget Sound Lowlands. Wich indicated to me it only likes running at sea-level. Could this be a bad air filter? I'll be checking it in a couple days, But I'm thinking it might mean my carbrator is too lean, or something. Just doesn't get enough air down the pipe when it's 1000 feet or higher. Any thoughts are much appreciated, thanks!

    My 84 brat

I figured, it's got some damage, it's hard to see it in the picture, but the front end underneath the grill and bumper is pretty badily bent out of shape. I figure I can lift it, have some fun in some "mild" trails... (I don't want to break the car mechanically) And I'm sure I'll ding it and dent it hear and there doing so... and then I can take care of the paint at a later date, having the body and paint job done is far more expencive than lifting it seems right now This is still, of course, after I have a second working vehicle for a daily driver.

    My 84 brat

So, I finally decided... I want to lift it. It'll be a while before I can afford to give it it's complete make over, but in the meantime, it'd be cool to lift it and throw some super swampers on it or something. It's also getting a massive rollbar with 6 offroad lamps on it. What do you guys thing? I was thinking about going with a PK 3/4" lift, and get some 14" steel pugs and throw some 27" BFG's or super swampers on it.
  7. I have no idea, it was full of oil when I put it in my car. Still full now, other than the table spoon worth of oil it's leaked up and through the speedocable.
  8. By the way, Thanks Ed for the knowledge. I really appreciate it.
  9. Ooooh! Goody! I have to replace the transmission again! fun. I have to replace the moter too anyway, may as well do everything at once after I get the coup running.
  10. Ya know, that is an interesting question, Most ea81 cars I've seen have one too, But my brat for some reason never did, the wireing isn't even there for one. The ecm is located underneath the stearing colum, it's actually mounted directly to the steering colum bracket, usallaly theres an interior panel in the way, held in by 2-3 screws... But yeah thats where it'll be if you have one. Generally another way to tell is check your y-pipe exhaust Cat for a O2 sesor, if it does not have one, chances are you also do not have an ecm. IF it does have an 02 sensor, you probably have an ecm.
  11. So, I have this transmission in my brat, it's a 4spd D/R tranny, It shifts smoothly and what not except when cold it is really hard to get it into 2nd gear. Problem I've noticed with it, and I'm not sure it's something to worrie about or not, but I thought I'd ask. When in 4th gear, it whines, loudly, all other gears are quiet, but 4th gear makes a high pitched whine whenever it's in gear and engine is given gas. Another interesting thing it's doing, is gear oil is leaking out of the speedometer cable... behind the speedometer. Is this normal behavor?
  12. Removing all the extra hoses and what not on my brat actually made it pass emissions when it was failing before hand. However, the brat never did have an ECM so I didn't have the extra wireing to deal with. Just hoses and hoses. Basically the only thing you need to keep it running good, is the PVC valve breathing to one head. the other head breather to the air filter. Actually look in the book and it gives you a nice simplified air flow path you should have, minus the egr stuff. And other than that, just need your vacume advanced hooked up, vacume line going to the dash hooked up, and break booster hooked up. Watch out for that egr sylonoid, they sometimes get stuck open and without a hose on it, will leave you with a huge vacume leak.
  13. I will see if I can trade shifts with someone and get next saturday off. I'd love to take the brat up, it needs exersize on it's new engine. Snow tires work good as long as it's not 3 feet deep and that ugly melted then frozen stuff.
  14. Heh heh, Oh yeah, I forgot about that.... mmmm EJ moters... You doing the 1.8 or the 2.2?
  15. I'm paying attention to this post as I want to do a 5spd conversion on the turbo coup.
  16. Went to steven's pass saturday night, during the winter storm warning, yes I'm crazy. Highcentered the brat, 4 big guys pushed it back out for me. It was that kind of snow that was wet, then froze, so you can stand on it, but then you drive your car in and realise it's 3 feet deep and everything stops when the floor pans hit the snow. Anyway, there was alot of people up there for 1am. It was snowing so hard too. I was only there for about a half an hour, took a couple of pictures... and in that half an hour an inch of snow accumulated in the bed of my brat. It was fun. Tires don't grab the snow anymore like they did last winter, it's time to replace em.
  17. Last year when we went to steven's pass, they had a snow plow shovel blocking the parking lot with all the deep snow in it. But, how kind of them to leave just enough room for a subaru to squeeze by... he he he, 2 and a half feet of snow to drive through untouched was alot of fun!
  18. I wouldn't be able to head out until 9pm. If ya wanna go then for a few hours I'm up for it.
  19. I can only go saturday night, I work saturdays and sundays...
  20. yeah, thats what I thought it was too, If It was me, I'd go with the custom drive shaft... seems more of a relaible sure way of doing it.
  21. Hmmm, Could do I-90 instead, I herd the snow level was at 4000 feet so I wasn't sure snoquami got the snow or not. It sounds like fun.
  22. Well, it's probably going to be a daily driver. I don't have alot of money to professionally rally it and what not. But, it should be highly capible in snow and mud. I want to drop a manual in it. Automatics are just too boring and high maintence for me. Basically, I know the D/R is going to need help mounting the shifting linkage. But, sense the rx tranny is also D/R I guess it really doesn't matter. What to others think would be best for snow?
  23. Ahh, ok. I'm wondering if the rx tranny is easier or if a regular ea82 d/r 5spd would be as easy.
  24. Ok, So I have this turbo coup, wich conveniently has no engine in it, making it very easy to access this automatic transmission that leaks. Wondering, What should I replace this with? Any ideas? I was thinking about going with a 5spd... But I'm not sure how to mount the 4wd linkage and such. Getting an RX all wheel drive tranny in would be pretty cool, or a center locking diff tranny. Wondering what would be easiest to do right now... Current progress on the engine: I pulled the moter out of the car, got one head cover off... it's pretty gross inside... Anyway, I'm going to pull the heads off tomarrow night hopefully. While I'm at it, I'm replacing pretty much every single coolant line in the car, because so far, 3 coolant hoses have bursted. Wich is what lead to the overheating and poping headgaskets deal. So all coolant hoses are getting replaced. I'm replacing the starter moter too. I'll have pictures soon on this massive project, I'll get em as soon as I head over to work on the engine. (I have the car stored at a friends house)
  25. My brat starts to behave like that when the oil starts getting old and thin...
