  1. i had a couple of possible reasons as to why this is happening and hopefully it will lead to a fix of some kind. or at least a way to know what the temp is while just ignoring the dash alltogether. one is the voltage regulator in the digi dash itself is going bad. i dont know if it has one or not but it would seem likely as a means of protection for the digital components. i pulled mine out as best as i could without disconnecting anything ( is 12 am and i gotta workat 9 but was curious) and there is a rectangle box. not sure if its the blinker indicator or a regulator. but seems a replacable enough part. i see two black wires that leave the plug on the drivers side. if looking at it like youre driving and you tilt the cluster top towards you. there is aa black with white and a straight black i can only assume is the ground. i didnt bust out my meter. but i will/ as well as try to ground it if it is when i do test it. and report back. and then theres teh regulator on the alternator. it could be good enough to charge the battery and keep the electricals running. but it may have a modulation or noize effect that causes it to act like alternating current and make things that are sensitive to electrical variables to just give a bad reading or cause multiple or all bars light up. replacing the alternator doesnt always fix this problem but what about a bridge rectifier after the alternator and then into the system to prevent there from being a modulated or pulsed current? if the alternator could cause one. .
  2. would be interesting to see if it actually did some damage to the muffler internals. .
  3. ''Does that mean that my muffler is literally shot full of holes internally?'' not necessarily. but not impossible. depending on the muffler and how it channels exhaust its likely that those bits manage to snake their way around and eventually exit the tailpipe. the converter itself isnt that dense to penetrate metal unless under a crazy amount of force. and the compressive forces required to do so wouldnt effectively be able to build up behind those bits to effectively shoot them through your exhaust system. its not impossible. but very unlikely. but would be kinda cool. asides from the destroying stuff and potentially hurting people
  4. i have the digi display and i must agree that it is inconsistent and also some other wonky nonsense with the fuel indicator going up instead of down. ive done some groundwork wherever i can find it and it has helped a little( it hasnt just gone to the roof for no reason or will jump around based on the load to the system) but i still have bars showing up or going away where they shouldnt. (if someone would clarify the ground from the display to the body or engine i would appreciate it) i intend on installing gauges for the battery the engine temp. and oil temp. because i absolutely dont trust electronics that have failures just due to age. there is virtually no rust to be found throught the body frame or engine and very low millage. so im fortunate compared to really only having digital display issues. though its unnerving to think it could all possibly go up in smoke without it actually warning you. generally if i feel the engine is trying to tone it back a little or even resist throttle. i find a nice little spot to pull off or just drive a little slower. it usually catches up.
  5. hey everyone. just got a subaru the other day. its a 88 gl-10. and as an owner i have questions. and most of the time i end up here. and the community and how everyone is definitely up to help fellow owners, it just seems like a good place to nest n connect. and now that im not stressing about solutions ive been ready to sit down start an account and be a part of it where i can. anyway. its nice to meet you all and if i end up at a meet in v.a. hopefully i run into some of you
