Ok I was thinking swapping gears is out of the question. Id have to pay someone to do the transmission build for me and labor would be too expensive. My friend also had a bugeye WRX, just daily drove it and he blew the trans around 150K. Now for this 93 WRX trans is it that year specific? Is there any years with the same gears like 94-95 WRX? Id have to look that up more and search some JDM importer sites

I need to buy an EJ awd trans for my loyale. Ill be running an ej22D na-t hybrid and aim to push at least 200WHP. Not anything crazy. So here are my options for trans, I need those axle stubs and cable pull clutch. I would prefer 4.44 since i’ll be running 27” tires. 1. 94 impreza 5 speed 3.9. I’ve got a cheap one lined up but i’m not sure they’ll hold abuse? I’ve also seen/heard about tons of them blowing up especially after 200K. 2. 98 Outback 5 speed 4.11. It’s very hard to find these in good cond. And most auto dismantlers want $400+, pretty steep imo. Also have heard of issues just like above. 3. WRX 5 speed, but heard they are glass boxes. I can get a blown one for couple hundred and rebuild it with type RA gears? But ill be looking at $1500 at least 3. JDM 5 speed STI transmission 4.11 (i think for Gc8). Online it says they are a lot stronger than the usdm 5 speeds. On Ebay they are priced at around $600-800 shipped. Transmission code : TY752VB3FA 4. JDM 02-05 WRX XT turbo 4.44. How is the strength on these trans? I can get one shipped to my door for $775. Transmission code : TY754VBAAA Which option would you guys choose? My budget is $1k. I’m not too easy on my transmissions but I also won’t be doing many launches either especially over 3K rpm. Thanks

vss dash problems for ej swap
alexbuoy replied to Zippy310's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Is it still idling low? My brat did the same thing after startup it would run great then couple minutes later it would miss and barely rev. Turned out to be a fuel problem. Looks like your VSS is hooked correctly i did the same thing in my 91 loyale iirc. Good ground? Whats your fuel line situation looking like? Is evap line to vent or to original line. Im thinking it’s more of a fuel related problem. I also wouldn’t trust an ej na-t with a stock EA FI fuel pump. -
Yeah for $50 can’t really complain. I’m wondering if I should just run it with the bad input shaft bearing until it blows, as id hate to do all that work for something else in the trans to blow. At 280k miles on the transmission I think it’s reaching the end of its life. I also have a deal with another EJ transmission with 130K miles and matching rear diff for $100. It’s a 3.9 but i’m not sure how long ill have to wait until i’m able to get it.

We will see how she handles boost, once I get a stand-alone ecu i’d like to push at least 8 psi. It should be a fun build if she blows she blows

Lots of stuff going down with the loyale recently! Picked up an EJ22 with 280K miles on it and I am going to do a basic reseal/t-belt job on it. This EJ will be boosted with a TD04 and fxt intercooler that i've had sitting in the garage for years. Got my harness trimmed by SJR and he did a great job and it only took him one day to do it. So happy that everything is coming back together in the loyale. Only thing I need to start slapping things together is an EJ 5 speed transmission and i've already two lined up, one 3.9 and the other 4.11 with matching rear diff.

Hello i’m looking into buying a 98 outback 5 speed trans and rear diff. Problem is the transmission has 280K miles on it and the input/main shaft bearing on the trans has tons of play in it. The PO thought the trans went out on it so I bought the ej22. I pull the motor and the clutch disc is cracked in half. The bearing on the flywheel(forget the name) is seized which is probably why the main shaft bearing is trash. PO did say trans did shift well and did not pop before clutch went. Main shaft bearing doesn’t look too bad to diy replace So my question is, is it worth it to buy this trans? I can get the trans/diff for cheap like sub $50. This will be going into my loyale with an ej22 na-t. Worth it or pass?

The 88 should be dualrange. If both the cars are N/A it’s a direct swap. I swapped my 91 loyale with a 1988 GL trans couple years agi
-
4 Speeds are junk. Find a 5 speed dualrange from a newer GL and throw it in. Run what you have until it blows up and then upgrade.

Super stoked just scored a set of good brat tail lights for really cheap on ebay!! Probably gonna keep them in storage and only swap them on for events or to get a fix it ticket signed off. And all my photos on this thread might be deleted. The website i'm hosting the images is getting shut down and i'm not sure if my pictures will stay

Been working on the Loyale a lot. Got some wheels and 27" tires for it. Not lifted. Almost ready to drive it just needs radiator hoses. Also scored at the Junkyard. Got DL headlights, a grille and some other small parts Found this plastic to delete the passenger mirror. I hate the way it looks

i’m assuming your 5 speed trans is non turbo so stick with the brat (ea81) axles. -
Went on some trails in big bear. Also checked out an XT6. He only wanted 500 for it but it was an autotragic.

Yea i just chopped my steering coupler and sleeved it
