Best guess is That metalic eccoing sound is from your rear driveline I'd start there and block the car off the ground safely and try to pinpoint the sound. -
Hot-Rodding a Brat in two stages - Suggestions?

The 2.2 heads give the 2.5 block a lot more compression theres a frankenmotor thread on here somewhere, probably wrong on the numbers but i think the hp goes from 85 or so to 185 if you also use the delta grind cams This is a pretty fun read on the topic http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2141800 -
Hot-Rodding a Brat in two stages - Suggestions?

My 84 ea81 redlines at 5500rpm on flat ground i get 75mph at 3200rpm with a webber, but hills are definitely a killer for the 4spd the 5spd will be a big improvement because of better gearing, so if you want to keep the ea81 get a webber do a 5spd swap or get an ej22 and ej25 put the 2.2 heads on the 2.5 and swap a 5spd and you'll have much more power on your hands. -

So did those hold the sun visor up as a deflector? or is that a whole separate wind deflector? -
Hey guys what are these two threaded holes between the t-top and sun visor of my '84 brat? It must be brat specific because my '84 gl didnt have these.

Think i found the culprit, even though the dizzy cap, rotor, plugs and wires are all new the rotor looked like it had about six years worth of corrosion on the contacts so i got to looking and the rubber seal at the top of the dizzy is all dried out cracked and a good third of it is missing, do you guys know if thats a part i can order or something im gonna have to make?

Id get the greasable ones none the less, and it can be done with minimal tools and space i usually only need two pieces of firewood of even height as a work bench -
Yeah your dealer might have it but at the very least can give you a part number to try and find it online, and yes the ea81 has an oil pan the back bolts are a pain to get off (at least they were for me lol) but thats where you will find the tip, and if you cant get a new one you could solder aor braze weld the tip back on your stick, but also while you have the pan off look around for "why" did it break, good luck.

U joints are real easy theres tons of videos on you tube to learn how you can do it your self in 30min or so just make sure to get the more pricey greaseable u joints their like 26 instead of 12 but well worth it they last waaaay longer the cheap ones youll be lucke to get 8months out of if you like to wheel. -
I've just spent the last hour or two reading old posts about my brat by thornleyjacob, i gotta say its been very interesting, reading about my car written by someone else, and that he took great care of it as i plan to. I just finished changing the oil and the printing on the oil filter is all japanese except for "fuji heavy industries ltd" (subaru), i was just wondering if anyone knows if they still make those filters? and where to get them?, i replaced it with a wix and valvoline high mileage oil (current odo 215960).
