Toyota 6 lug conversion help?
Scott in Bellingham replied to ccooney11286's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
On the wheels I prefer the early Toyota rims, the later ones have too deep dished, they stick out to far This redrill hubs. http://www.sjrlift.com/index.php/catalog/misc/hub-4-to-6-pattern-detail This lift. http://www.sjrlift.com/index.php/catalog/lift-kits/0-4-lift-ea81-detail -
What wheels should I get?
Scott in Bellingham replied to ccooney11286's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Early stock Toyota rims 15" or 2wd import truck rims don't get the deep dish that stick way out, keep the tires inward as far as possible -
weve all been there thanks for the story

Possible Subaru Mud Boat Engines
Scott in Bellingham replied to joel1847's topic in Subaru Transplants
all the EJ engines run Fuel Injected so you will need the harness from the car with the ECU , the EJ22 will be your most common easiest to get used parts, also DELTA grinds cams and you can get a low torque grind -
well its been a few years since I built myself a Wheeler, my last one for myself was the 87 blue wagon I trimmed all the weight off and added a roll bar cage and a 3" lift, fun car not winter weather friendly, the car before that 3 years ago was the bobbed goldish 91 legacy wagon dual range 8" lift, and Toyota rear axle, well now I'm ready to go a few more steps forward thinking of Toyota IFS 7.5" up front add a second transfer case and run either a yota 8" outback or a second yota IFS outback , 31" pizza cutters , bout 8-9" lift 4 door with a sedan trunk, all weather wheeler , not sure on body a EJ body's nice as it will already have the EJ engine which I want, I found a 96 Legacy sedan last year with slight frontend damage for $400 if I can find another similar deal that would be a good start, I wont need to find a car just yet unless one shows up as Ill spend most the fab time on setting up the suspension and drive components, I want to go with stock Toyota IFS parts make my own a-arms and center the diff , maybe even go Subaru strut up top and modify the Toyota knuckle to except the lower strut 2 bolt mount, so when its done it will have a center frame mounted diff, equal length lengthened CV axles with Toyota locking hubs on all 4 wheels , all components stronger then stock Subaru stuff and many Aftermarket Lockers available with rear unlocking hubs and a second Transfer case to lower gears and raise or leave the engine in its stock location, right now this is just in the idea stage I like to think about and plan for a project before I start buying parts and filling the shop up with stuff, I can also see bobbing and narrowing the body front and rear tell me what you think I want Critique

the wheelers I run at walker a few dents a warped panel and a few scratches add to its caricature with this project if it was me id get the major parts together get that thing rolling then running then sweat all the little details like finish body work

the way guys do this from the start you make you seams on the most bent of curved shape, that's hard on a hood, then you only weld a short distance say 1/2" then you move to a different spot, also you hammer and dolly the weld as you go along, all this done right gets good results, its quite a art and will take many hours days years to master

you can unwarp that hood , auto body guys do it , theres methods or shrinking metal , just look it up

85 gl wagon lift questions
Scott in Bellingham replied to pbilt's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
the crank up was on the older EA81s and on the 85 EA82s, it only got like 1" -
nice sheetmetel work , when I do that kind of stuff on a wheeler I usually overlap it a bit say 1/2 , makes cutting work more forgiving , if you still want a butt weld overlap first then use the first cut as a guide to mark for the 2nd cut , oh and try not to trip on the floor

Paper model Subarus
Scott in Bellingham replied to Scott in Bellingham's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I knew there was something out there, Id like to find a EA82 style wagon like a 86 GL -
I remember years ago there was some drawings or fold together paper models of the older Subarus, it was like you could print it off cut the parts out and tape it together and make a crude paper model anyone remember these? or have a link to the drawings or did anyone make any at home?

My recommendations on the EA82: 4" lift 27" tire, with fender trimming upto 29" , 6" lift 29" tire, I prefer a 235/75-15 MT with a 6" lift, 215/75-15 with with a 4" lift is a nice setup, if your locked up in the rear diff with a EJ you'll eventually brake a rear axle or stub if your offroading , now something people usually forget and I learned the hard way is bump stops on the rear, say you have a big tire and your off camber with opposite wheels off the ground, well all the driving force is now on that 1 rear wheel that's bottomed out jammed into the wheel well , if you haven't extended the bump stops then your tire may be rubbing the fender well and cause more stress on the rear axle and brake it, also on breakage your driving style has a lot to do with the loads and stress you put on your vehicle

Why the switch? Over the last year I've set up a nice Aluminum foundry at my shop for casting parts, now I'm ready to make all the patterns I need and start selling lift kits in all aluminum for all the Subaru models up to the present, lifts at 1/4" increments up to 2" in height, I can now offer more custom parts in any height or configuration you may want, I have a simpler material source Raw Aluminum, instead of needing to keep on hand many different sizes of steel and many different precut plates for the different models, also I can offer custom parts with your logo or artwork or lettering to make your parts personalized, for example on the kit above where it has SJR you could request a lions head or the name Gary , also there's more lift kit builders out there them there had been years ago and I need to stay at the forefront and offer what others are not, I will still offer the steel lift kits there is just more options for you car builders out there, what I really need now is help in setting up a better online store with all the options so I have my work cut out for me an I'm just a 1 man shop Scott

new all Alminum lift, one of the first all Aluminum 2" lifts this will replace the steel 2" lift I had been producing , fits 2000-2004 Legacy, all Baja, I will also be introducing the trailing arm spacer for this in the future <iframe src="https://www.facebook.com/plugins/post.php?href=https://www.facebook.com/1082794985101715/photos/a.1085668991480981.1073741828.1082794985101715/1159554590759087/?type=3&width=500" width="500" height="402" style="border:none;overflow:hidden" scrolling="no" frameborder="0" allowTransparency="true"></iframe>

1992 Subaru Loyal Engine Swap
Scott in Bellingham replied to dirtyloyalemobbin's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I sell the adapter parts and wiring here http://www.sjrlift.com/index.php/catalog/engine-swap-parts -
the axles in the EA car should slip right onto the EJ FWD transaxle same spline count, EJ axles wont slip into the outer knuckles of a EA, on the harness you will need one that works with your engine plugs fwd or awd will be fine , on the clutch cable the EA cable will work but you need to swap the EA clutch bracket onto the EJ trans as the cable mt end is different , it will all make sence as you work with the parts, its Legos
