Measured the Toyota tacoma rearend its 60-1/2" wide , looks like the subaru rear EA82 is 60" so Im going to get it, its a 4.10 ratio so that will work with the 4.11 up front and then I will be able to use same rims and tires front and rear and the datsun truck rearend was like only 55 " wide , so it keeps evolving, set the transfercase under the car , its a tall hummer, looks like I will be cuttting the tranny tunnel out and raise it up a few inches would like the t-case up another 6" -

Progress or degress matters who you ask ignoring the back for now , will get the front mounted up with a engine and tranny thrown in, this frontend is from the silver car a built a few years ago Yes thats a rear diff stuffed in the front thats in the stuffed location -

it clears even with the 31s stuffed all the way up, not much room for upper arms ., just might get some work done on it today , trying to decide if to stick with the subaru front end or solid axle it, leaning towards the suby stuff as I already have it and like the lite nimbleness , I guess if in the futre I wanted a solid axle up front I could always change it out , and i already have a nissan 720 t-case , its raining today good day to be in the shop -

Diff locker????
Scott in Bellingham replied to pickstock's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Ive wheeled a welded stock 3.9 subaru Diff for the last few years, the diff will hold up , Ive broke 3 stub shafts , ( thats the splined part sticking out the diff its hollow and thats the weak point ) ive brocken 2 rear axles and seen 1 other rear brake this is on a EA82 , 2 of the axles snapped the shaft in 2 and 1 the cup part gave out, and this is with a 27" tire, I would suggest go with a LSD , or weld it up and be prepared to fix axles and stub shafts on the trail, good luck -
Hey Jeff been a while since weve been out want to go to walker next friday or saturday SJR
-
you will want a dual range tranny for that and if the diff ratio is 3.7 you will also need dirrerent front axles
