  1. OK OK!! I get the message. I will do it myself this weekend. I hear how easy it is but I have never attempted a brake job before. Could one of you point me in the direction of good walkthrough. I don't have a repair manual yet so any info I get would be helpful. I have read some posts about the ceramics eating rotors. Also it is more cold then not around here and I have read that ceramics work better when warm. So should I go ceramic or not? Thanks again guys for your help
  2. Hi everyone, I have been have been getting some shudder when slowing down. I was told this is caused by warping of the rotors. So I went to the Suby dealership and they said for $220 I get new pads(stock), and they will machine the rotors unless they need to be replaced. The car has 125k on it and from what I have of paperwork this is the 3rd set of brakes to go on it. I am also going to have them do a tranny flush $89. I have never done brakes before but I'm sure I could get them done myself but I simply don't have time with work and school. So my question is are these prices about right? I took this car to various other shops when I first bought it for some some minor issues and always seem to leave with a new / worse problem. So the only place I trust now is the Suby dealership. Thanks again
  3. Hey everyone, 99 legacy 2.5 GT How do i remove the plug wires from the plugs? Do I just pull them off or are they clipped somehow? Having a lot of difficulty getting them of there. Thanks all.
  4. Hey all, I was just wondering if there is a turbo available for the 99 legacy sedan with 2.5 DOHC. I have been looking around and don't seem to find much. If you have any sites to recommend for bolt on performance upgrades for this car I would like to hear them. Thanks again.
  5. I assume that since they are a subaru dealership that they have thought to clear the codes but I will ask them anyway. They did replace the speed sensor and it did not fix the problem. The other thing they told me is that when they have diagnostics machine hooked up to the TCM the car shifts fine but when they unplug it the problem returns.
  6. Thank you for your offer, however I am told that it has to be from a 99 and maybe a 2000 with a phase 2 transmission.
  7. Hey everyone, Thanks to everyone for there responses to my original thread "subaru newbee having a bad day". I wanted to update you on the status of my 99 legacy 2.5 GT Limited. It's still in the shop. They have replaced the speed sensor but it did not fix the shifting problem. So now they are talking about replacing the Transmission control module(TCM). They want another $420 just for the unit. I am looking around for the part myself but not having a lot of luck if any of you have a working TCM that you want to sell or know of some sites I can look for them new or used I would appreciate it.
  8. I didn't mention it in my original post but I have seen no corrolation between the bad shifting and the speedo working or not. The cruise control works fine so that must be on a different sensor than the one for the speedo. One other thing I was wondering. I bought a new knock sensor for this car and when I pulled the old one it read 570k ohms, the new one read 1.5 Meg ohms. Does anyone know they correct spec for this. I did not install the new one since the connector did not match up correctly either.
  9. Hey guys, I'm knew to this board but I figured I would jump right in. I just bought a 99 legacy 2.5 GT Limited, 117,000 mi. This was a fun car to drive until a week later the check engine light came on and everything went wrong. I noticed just after I bought it the speedo would randomly drop to zero. No big deal would get to it when time permits. But when I took it to a local repair shop they check the codes and said it was my knock sensor. They wanted another $160 to put one in on top of diagnostics cost. So I told them to wait until I could order the part myself. So I left the shop with car not repaired. Drove about a block and immediatly noticed that it would slam from gear to gear,(AT by the way). So I went back and they told me that the car just needed to relearn its shift points. When I had a friend pull the codes again for me it came up with faulty ECU. Three days go by and still shifting hard. So I went back and they told me there was nothing they could possibly have done to cause this to happen. So today I took it to the Subaru dealership. It will cost another $65 to hook it to the computer. Now they tell me it is my vehicle speed sensor and it will cost $434 parts and labor and may not fix the problem. I love the car but It's slowly costing me a bundle to repair things. So if any of you have some advice for me I'm open to hear it. Thanks
