I recently replaced the head gaskets, but the fans where working normally i believe. the only other thing i did was degreese and pressure wash the engine and bay. The fans go on from a cold start and stay on.. what should i look for? the wire is connected to the censer. fans are on so it has power. Any advice what it could be ? Thanks

I just replaced the head gaskets a few days ago on my 96 j2.2 I did NOT pull the engine. lift the engine about 1.5 inches. take the valve covers off. the bottom headbolt closest to the firewall on both sides will be what you need to watch. also push the hood back it will go back farther to the windshield and put the rod down When taking the heads out pull straight out then kind of stwist out with the lower back coner of the head being last to come out. some bolts pulled half way out will help. get sooby gaskets intake, exaust, headgaskets. hold off on valve cover gaskets and washers and see if they leak thats what i did ,they are expensive a sooby thermostat too, $23 nappa they are $19 get a sooby !. if you pull the engine you can leave the valve covers on i would think but not sure. For me leaving the engine in was good because i worked outside and i could close the hood for the day to keep out of the rain. i did it over 3 days . it took me 10 hours. im slow tho. but its fixed the shop wanted 1,600 bucks Good luck let us know how you do.

I am no pro , But i have 18 years with the DOT in CT, Working with plow trucks,i see a lot of rust. One thing i learned is just how strong a little piece of steel really is , ever cut up a old truck frame with a torch ? a little stran of steel left uncut can hold lots of weight.. car has seen 10 harsh winters and its flaking some. now you are taking car of the car that can be perforated like swiss cheese and still will hold.. you know its their, keep an eye on it, to me that will last another 10 years easy. paint it with encapsulator paint if you want to help preserve it. In my opinion that frame will last for many more years

i bought the cheap gauge and 12once can of coolant was about $40 at nappa, i change all the green O-Rings first also bought at nappa. i made sure the A/C system was empty. it was because it was empty. i Filled with one 12once can the gauge read about 35 i think , i have a arctic 43dagrees for a month now. PS make sure you buy the fill hose with the gauge they are a little more but u can see what is going on.

im not a pro, maybe the radiator crack sucked in air causing the thermostat not to open causing the overheat. maybe it was overheated longer than you think as you were driving. and popped the head Gasket. not turning over could be a engine seize do to overheat. that rad aftermarket ? sooby junk yard stuff is better. you can do the HG yourself. I just did it for the first time and works great.

One bolt on the driver side felt easier than the rest even tho the torque is the same. Anyway. I am happy to say the job is complete and the car if fixed I test drove over an hour up many hills and on the highway passing trucks up hill . Killer heat and Arctic A/C. As soon as I started it I knew it was fixed because the cooling did not blow like a volcano . I am confident it will last a long time. I made sure the parts were clean and torque to spec . Now I'm heading to the JY to get a power steering pump. Thanks for the advice guys.

Well i got the new gaskets and heads on. raising the engine was key if not pulling it out. Also i pulled the valve covers off. And i learned the i can open the hood off the rod and push back by the windshield, . One head bolt seems stretched more than others can i just replace it or got to change the gasket again ? I am going to the Air show in RI Sunday so it will wait till monday. Thanks
