  1. Maybe where you live. Mine is a necessity since my car is in Texas. 100 degree weather, bumper-to-bumper, stop and go traffic will just about kill a car! Especially a turbocharged car.
  2. Well, here is my 2 cents(from experience). Yes a small block Chevy thermostat will fit. I have a 180 in my GL-10. It works considerably better than the stock 192. I'm pretty sure since the coolant runs through the intake manifold(OEM configuration), running the 192 thermostat is going to rob you of power down the line due to excess heating of the intake charge. 180 is the way to go. Any colder and it'll probably be doing more harm than good. Patrick
  3. Well if he liked it or the body style so much, why didn't he ask where he could buy one, instead of asking Buddy to buy his? That's enough to make even the most calm and collective person doubt someones intentions. I believe in the "old school" way of doing things because that is the way I was brought up. If it doesn't belong to you, don't touch it. So if you try to steal something from someone and get caught, they can stick a fork in you because you are done. Severe actions require severe consequences. Try stealing something in Saudi Arabia, and see if they don't cut your hand off during a public meeting. If more people learned that at a young age, then half the crap that goes on these days, wouldn't. Patrick
  4. Yeah, but if he is a true Subaru Freak, then he will know how to go out and shop for one like everyone else with common sense. It's not like there aren't plenty to go around or anything. And it isn't like he asked him if he knew where he could buy a Subaru, but instead, he kept bugging him about his(Sounds fishy enough to me). Anyway, I'm not paranoid, I'm cautious. Patrick
  5. I think it might be time to think about relocating. That guy might try to steal it in the middle of the night. Time to break out the good ol' 12 gauge, and keep it handy.
  6. HOLY SMOKES!!! That's pretty cool if you ask me. Wow! Now that sheds some light onto the subject. Yeah, I guess you're right about not being able to mount the cannister. If a porsche motor barely fits in a VW, I know a subaru motor would be a tight squeeze. Well, once it's running, enjoy. That should be a very fast little car!
  7. Wait a minute Habib99! What do you mean that you don't have room for the emissions cannister? I have a GL-10 that is plantiful in the modification department and I didn't have to do away with my emissions cannister. What kind of car did you implant the EA82T in if you don't mind me asking?
  8. The only thing uneconomical over here is the prices of replacement parts. I found that living on the Japanese economy is hard. But in spite of that, there are still extremely well maintained vehicles here and they aren't owned by Americans. They are owned by the locals. So as far as the vehicles not being maintained, I have to argue with that. Chances are, if you have a vehicle that was imported from Japan and it is trashed, an American owned it at one time. It is sad to say (because I'm an American), but it is true. I'm talkin' no spark plug changes, no oil changes, don't even talk about air filters, nothing, Nada, Zilch, Zero. Most of the Americans(not all) here just ride the poor cars down into the ground until it isn't of any use anymore. And that is only because most Americans are only here for 3 or so years, so they don't care for their vehicles. Besides, JCI inspections are very extensive and very strict.
  9. In accordance to what archemitis just said, the aftermarket clutch kit for an impreza will fit. I did a little research and found that out. I plan on upgrading when I return to the States to either an ACT or a Centerforce clutch and also a brand new, stock flywheel.
  10. Well, I have one in my 88 GL-10. The original engine got a big crack between the valves on the passenger side head before I owned the car. The guy I bought it from went ahead and got the used JDM block instead of buying new heads(which incidently cost more than the used engine). I have had pretty good luck with mine. The only thing that you will probably want to do is replace all the coolant hoses. That was the big problem that I had. Every couple of days, one would get a hole in it and pee coolant everywhere. So finally after the third one burst, I didn't have any choice but to replace them. Let me tell you, it's really not cool when you are in boost and passing someone on the highway and one lets loose. Luckily I was 2 minutes from home so I limped her there and began to replace them all. Other than that, I have not had any problems with oil leaking anywhere. Basically, as long as you do some preventative maintanence, it should be a solid motor. Usually the places won't sell you one if there is something wrong with it, unless you plan on rebuilding it anyway. Now if only I can find a JDM ecu(130hp base fuel maps) for it.
  11. Brian, Here is a link to the boost controller that I have on my GL-10. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=33742&item=7985408769&rd=1 These are the best boost controllers that I have found yet. They cost like $16 and are FULLY adjustable. I installed mine and was able to go from stock(8psi) to 11psi. And I still have a lot of room to improve(If I can get past that pesky fuel cut). Best of all, they don't spike, they just hit the target boost and hold all the way to redline!!! Most importantly all the ones that I have purchased(I bought some for a few friends back in the States), and nobody has ever had a problem with them. They are great. Check it out. I just recently bought another one for my Starlet Glanza V so I can crank the boost up on it and my friend Randy bought on for his Skyline GTS-T. Patrick
  12. Well people, after thoroughly wearing myself out looking for the roof scoop kit, I regret that I had no luck in finding anything. All I could find was pics of homemade roof scoops(some just looked pretty shameful:-\ ). I'm truly sorry. But I'll keep my eyes open around here and see if anyone sells anything like it. If so, I'll let everyone know. Patrick
  13. Sweet, I might have to give this stuff a try. Well eventually.
  14. Well, I live in Okinawa, Japan and I have yet to see any Brumby/Brats running around. The only subies that I have seen are WRXs, Impreza's, Sti's, Sambar's(light truck), Sambar vans, R2's, and this little car that I can't ever see the freakin' name on, but it's a subie too. If they are still in production, I can find out for everyone. I'll go down to the Subaru dealership near Naha and see. They'll be able to tell me for sure. And if they are still making them, Ahemmmm..............Boys & Girls........ get your pocket books ready! But really, all joking aside, I'll check as soon as I can and report back. Patrick
  15. Aaahhhhh.........True Love!!! You know when a man(or woman) truly is in love with their car. When their old beater is in the driveway and all the high dollar cars are in the street, and nobody dares to challenge the judgement!
  16. Yeah, I'm still thinking about having this done to my turbo when I get back. If anyone has their block apart for a rebuild, and you're looking for some extra ponies along with keeping good combustion efficiency and what not, look into getting this done to the crowns of your pistons and also the piston skirts(the place where you get alot of friction from side to side movement). It is worth it no matter which way you look at it. Besides, ceramic on metal doesn't hardly wear at all. Aahhhh...........Think of the possibilities!!!!!
  17. My best guess is that the electric fan kicks on between 200-225 degrees Fahrenheit. Not sure how true it is because my car has the digital dash, so I have to guess at it. As for the thermostat, if you are looking for something colder(i.e. 180 or 160) then go to the parts store and ask for a thermostat for an 80s model Chevy 350. It will fit in perfectly. I know because I have a 180 in my GL-10. The only thing that you will have to do is drill the air bleed hole in it.
  18. Let me do a little footwork(internet). I seem to remember seeing functional roof scoop kits(complete with all mounting hardware) somewhere online in the past 5-6 months. I'll see if I can find it again.
  19. Sweet Dude! Keep us posted. I know how you feel about this car. I felt the same way when I saw my 88 GL-10. It's a long, hard road ahead. But in the end it will be worthwhile. Patrick
  20. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!! I needed a good laugh this morning!(Hey! Hey! Don't just sit back and laugh at me.... It is morning here in Japan!!!)
  21. Welcome to the boards!!! May I say that you have a very colorful history with vehicles(I mean nothing bad by it). The Loyale is a keeper for sure. If you are trying to get rid of the lifter tick, Marvel Mystery Oil should do the job. If not, try out a can of SeaFoam. This is some goooooood stuff, I tell you what! It will usually do the trick when nothing else will. Just remember to run it before you change your oil. If the tick is still there, then you might have to look into getting the lifters replaced. Enjoy!!! Patrick
  22. Welcome to the boards!!! It sounds like your subie is in great shape and probably a real hoot to drive! Again, welcome and Happy Motoring! Patrick
