  1. It was $4.99 + tax. I bought one in black. Oh yeah, and I forgot to mention that they now sell the flexible polished stainless steel radiator hose kits(which is supposed to be universal). Finally Autozone is stepping up in the world.
  2. My wife and I went to Autozone yesterday and I noticed in the old "Ricer" section(don't ask me why I was there. It is force of habit!), that they were selling a few more goodies than normal. They are now selling Stainless steel mesh air filters that come with adapters to fit intake systems from 3"-4" diameter. It also says on the package,"For track use only", like thats going to stop anyone. Yeah Right! Anyway, they also have stainless steel mesh breather filters, Velocity stacks(for those of you who run with no filter element and tear down your engine after every couple of races), plastic flexible piping that comes in 3 different colors, and thick silicone couplers that come in 3 colors as well and include an adapter that allows you to go from a 3" pipe to a 2-1/2" pipe. I'll keep my eyes open for anything new and try to keep everyone posted.
  3. I don't think that it would change the HP & torque numbers that dramatically. Maybe 1-3 on each, maybe. All in all, I think that you'll be just fine.
  4. Will, you're da man!! You seem to always find the goodies for us ol' skool fools yo!!!
  5. Well that is certainly good to hear. SeaFoam is some awesome stuff. It does what it says. Enjoy your GL-10! They are a bundle of fun!
  6. Gracias mi amigos! Thank you for the info. That has been worrying me for a little bit. That was all I needed to know. Yeah I know the 700-800 mile thing is a bit over the edge, but if only you guys could have seen this thing before I bought it. I am glad I bought it though.
  7. Not to be impatient or anything, but I could still use some guidance in this department. HELP PLEASE!!!
  8. Well, let's see. There is: IHI, Garrett, Mitsubishi, Holset, Hitachi, KKK, Turbonetics, Schwitzer, Rayjay, Toyota, Rotamaster, Airesearch(Garrett subsidiary), Banks, Caterpillar(industrial turbochargers), Precision Turbo.......... These are all the ones I can think of off the top of my head.
  9. Well, I think I can answer that question. Yes some came with VF7s. I was lucky enough to have one. But I have plans to get the compressor housing bored and get a different compressor put into it by a company called Blaylock-Turbo. Here is what Jim Blaylock at Blaylock Turbo told me in refernce to my email: JIm Blaylock <sales@blaylock-turbo.com> wrote: Patrick we can bore out your compressor housing, put larger wheel in it and polish the housing for better air flow. We can lighten the turbine wheel for a little quicker spool up. Your cost is $400.00. This does not include basic rebuild. If you need everything rebuilt also before the upgrade the total cost is $795.00. Thanks, Jim----- Original Message ----- From: Cloudcar2000 To: sales@blaylock-turbo.com Sent: Saturday, February 05, 2005 11:37 PM Subject: Got a quick question about a turbocharger performance upgrade Hi! I found your company's website while I was doing a search and I was very interested in my find. Anyway, I was wondering if your company can do anything performance wise to an IHI RHB5 VF7 turbocharger? If so, please send me an email back with any information as soon as possible. Thank You very much for your time. Sincerely, Patrick Z. I know it would be cheaper to do a TD04 conversion, but before I try that, I figured I would see what could be done with the stock turbo to increase performance.
  10. I hate to thread jack, but I have got a question for anyone that can answer it. I talked to my wife, and she thinks that changing over to synthetic would be a good idea since my car will not be driven(well except maybe around the block) for almost 4 years. My parents will be taking care of it while we're in Okinawa and will be starting it up and driving it down the street and back so that the tires won't get flat spots. But anyway, well this is where my question begins. I know that you have to flush the engine when changing over from dino to synthetic, but from everything that I have read, it always says not to use engine flush on a turbocharged motor as it will risk damaging the bearings in the turbocharger. So what is the process that I have to go through to change the oil over from dino to sythetic as I am kind of confused since I have an EA82T?
  11. I think LoyaleFan is right on the mark. If your other engine had started burning oil at any time, and it got down into the exhaust pipe, it will start to burn and create the infamous blue smoke as it burns off. Sad thing is, it looks similar to when the rings start to go. So unless you tear the motor down again, it'll be kinda hard to tell for a short time. If it continues to do it a month or so down the line(depending on how much you drive it), then you know that you have bad rings. One other thing that I find cool, is that there is another "Patrick" with a GL-10 Turbo!!! Patrick
  12. 88GL10T, I'm sorry to slightly jack this thread, but I have a question that concerns this topic, so please forgive me. Hey Will, is the layout of the engine in the XT turbo different than a GL-10T? If not, then wouldn't it be more worthwhile to swap the motor out of the XT turbo into the GL-10? I know there will be differences in the wiring(XTs ecu is under the parcel shelf in the rear while the GL-10s have theirs underneath the dash). But if you have to get the wiring harness anyway, then why not just rewire with the XT harness and find a different location for the ecu?
  13. I think you are talking about Sea Foam Deep Creep. That is the only other product that I know that Sea Foam makes. I first found out about the stuff from my dad. His cousin swore by this stuff, and yes it has been around for a long while. It wasn't available here up until about 2 years ago and that is when I finally found it in an O'Reilly Aut Prts store. This has to be some of the best stuff that I have ever tried to this date. It gets nothing but kudos from me!!!
  14. Do you have an O'Reilly autoparts, Autozone, Advance, or PepBoys nearby? Those are the places that I know of off the top of my head that sell Sea Foam.
  15. Will, I hope you are noticing something. WE ARE ALL BEHIND YOU 100%!!! Don't feel down. We are all here for you. Pardon this expression, but if they want to start a war, take the war to their doorstep. Don't let their remarks, sneers, and disapproving looks get to you. You don't need their approval to do what you enjoy. Keep your head up and keep up the good work!!! Patrick
  16. Well, I know one thing that friend would be a friend no longer. I can understand if a friend gives you a hard time about something, like cracking jokes, but if they step over that line that is when I take offense. I had a so-called friend do something similar to me a long time ago. Then when his car broke down, and he wanted to go cruise around with me, I told him,"No. You don't like this car remember." His reply was," I'm just joking with you come on." I replied," Well I'm not. And I guess since your car is broken and my car still running strong, then I guess we really know who owns the POS now don't we?!!" Then I drove off and enjoyed my night. Point is, sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do.
  17. You are pimpin' a turbo minivan?!!! That is freakin' awesome! I'm guessing a mid to late 80s turbo caravan? I wish I could find one locally. I'd buy it and mod it up in a heartbeat. That is the one thing that I'm known for here in town(at least by the people who know me and my friends), and that is modding vehicles that others think is a waste of time. I've done it 3 times already and I don't plan to stop any time soon.
  18. Man, that header looks gorgeous. And with that ceramic coating to help hold the heat in the pipe, you should gain a couple horsepower on top of what the header will provide alone.
  19. SHAKE THA HATERS OFF!!! Don't let them get to you. I go through the same thing here(mainly all the "my mommy or daddy bought my car and it's the fastest thing on earth" tech-schoolers that run around here on a daily basis). But nothing brings a bigger smile to my face than blowing the doors off their little riced out civics, eclipses, saturns, etc., and them still trying to race, not understanding what the hell just happened. There is nothing wrong with what you have accomplished. They are suffering from a little something called "PENIS ENVY". You have something that is older, faster, and didn't take as much to build up. Sure it was probably a long hard road, but you can take pride in the craftmanship and time that you put into making your RX what it is today. Personally, I like being able to whoop on someone and then blend back into normal traffic like nothing happened. So it's the sleeper life for me. And my GL-10 will be the third sleeper car that I have built up with my own two hands. Just sit back and enjoy the ride.
  20. Yeah I just finished reading it. That study was pretty interesting. I am assuming that you are refering to the part about people who use regular oil probably change their oil 40% too early. I don't know if I'll ever switch my GL-10 over to synthetic oil. I might if I get another EA82T engine for it(mainly because it will have all the bells and whistles). But my WRX wagon on the other hand, will be getting a nice dosage of Royal Purple in the next couple of weeks.
  21. Yeah I could. But I'm trying to keep this thing running for many more years to come without having to do an engine overhaul in the near future. I guess this could also be due to the lack of maintanence by person that owned it before I did. When I first bought the car, I had to do an oil change. Then I checked things like the brakes(which needed to be changed quite desperately), CV axles(which needed servicing), Gear oil(which also needed to be changed), belts(which needed to be changed), etc. That is probably the biggest reason that I do what I can to keep up the maintanence on it, and yes it might be rather neurotic, but better safe than sorry.
  22. I would change the ol' Draggin' Wagon over to sythetic, but I change the oil so often, I couldn't bear the financial burden that comes with sythetic oil. Instead, I use natural Kendall 10W40 oil, sometimes I use a quart of Rislone, Lucas Oil Stabilizer, and WIX oil filters at oil change time. I change the oil every 700-800 miles because I do alot of stop and go driving and I am kinda hard on it around town, but whenever I ask for more power, it delivers every time. So I do what I can to keep it happy and running well.
  23. Well, I really don't have to worry about hot air too much. I fabbed a 3" fenderwell intake with a stainless steel cone filter on the end. It works a heck of alot better than the factory stuff did, but then again, I have an EA82T motor under the hood of my GL-10 Wagon. Alot of times, most street driven cars require the slight restriction that the air filter produces to create torque. when you run no air filter element, you actually lose torque, but you should, should being the key word, gain top end horsepower. But alot of the torque is also produced by the intake pipe(ie:diameter, length of pipe), and also the exhaust pipe(length, diameter, type of muffler used, catalytic converter, etc.) as well. But as we're not talking about exhaust, you can kinda ignore that. Basically, a low(low, not NO) restriction air filter and a tuned length pipe will create more torque and better hp numbers than just adding a cone filter to the factory intake piping. This is true in NA vehicles as well as turbocharged vehicles, but your gains will usually be higher on an engine with some sort of forced induction.
