Hi guys! I've only been on this forum a short time, and I've noticed members from all across the world, I'm just wondering if there's anyone local to me on the forum, I'm from the PNW (obviously by my topic title) specifically I'm near the Portland metro area.

EA to EJ20 for my Loyal Loyale
LittleLoyaleMan replied to LittleLoyaleMan's topic in Subaru Retrofitting
Wow, thank you for the responses guys, that already helps me a lot. Honestly I thought about doing a turbo, with low boost just for an extra kick, but all things in do time. But anyways thank you, this does answer several questions -
Hi guys! I've got some questions in regards to a swap I'm planning on doing for my little Loyale. This is my first car, and even after the head gaskets blew I've held on to the thing because honestly I just love it too much. This thing got me to and from a job for 3 years, and made trips all the way to southern Oregon from Washington. All sentiment aside let's get started with the questions. First off, I've been doing research, and I recently pulled my motor so I could part out the majority of the ea82 drive train as to help fund my project. I've looked into the various EJ motors, from prices, reliability, and compatibility with my chassis. I've decided on an EJ20, mostly for power, and current prices as well as available parts. I'm wondering if there is any good guides for a rebuild on an EJ20 as I've decided to go look for one to pull from a yard, given that I can get one for $150 through a pick n pull. If so could someone provide a link to another thread that would help me with that specific motor. Second, is my stock EA82 transmission compatibile with an EJ20, if I get an adapter plate. Lastly I'd just like any additional pointers for this project, like recommended ECU, and just any additional info or links to threads, and websites that have info on similar builds. I'll admit, the EA82 is the first motor I've pulled, and I'm still fairly new to the deeper more technical mechanical work. I don't have a lot of readily available money, so I'm preferring to do as much work myself or with help from some friends of mine that have more experience. I've got access to most shop tools needed, including a welder. So I'm trying to basically take my time, and learn as I go, and I have plenty of time to work on it because I've got a different daily driver for work. Anyways, sorry for the back story, I'm just looking for as much help as I can get so I can turn my first project car into the rally warrior I dream it to be Thanks!

This all looks so useful, I just pulled my EA out of my 92' Loyale and am planning out an EJ20 build for it. I don't have much money, so ideally I'm trying to do a majority of the work myself. Thank you for providing resources and shortening my search of information

EJ conversion into my '92 Loyale
LittleLoyaleMan replied to LittleLoyaleMan's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Crazyeights your Loyale is beautiful, the paint is amazing. Love the rims. As I've said before, in my area there aren't many old gens in good condition out here, and even less Loyale Sedans. So I hope by doing this, not only will my car stand out more amongst the sea of Soobie's in Vancouver, but also have power to show with it. But with every great project there has to be a start. I'm gonna save a bit more money so I can get a decent donor car (thinking a 95 legacy) and in the meantime do as much research on this process. Once the project is moving forward more, I'll be sure to post pics and update anybody who's interested in the progress -

EJ conversion into my '92 Loyale

MR_Loyale mines an automatic -
Hello again everyone (for those that commented on my last topic) I've got a '92 Loyale that I love too much to try and trade for a newer Subaru, on top of the fact that in my area you just don't see as many older gen subie's roaming the roads. I have looked into a number of EA82 modifications but I've come down to wanting a full EJ22 swap. I will admit two things, I'm fairly new to the world of automotive mechanics, and I don't make a substantial amount of money. With that in mind I know this task will be great, and I will have to be patient. Now then, onto the topic at hand. Looking into it I can pull a motor from a pick n pull for a ball park $200, but I know I require new electrical system to run through my car, and I will probably have to do a tranny swap as well as a new exhaust. If I could just get help as far links to resources/other forums that would be useful, and any general information that would be useful to this project then that would be great. I'm in the Vancouver Washington area, but I'm willing to go a distance for parts and other resources. Any recommendations for shops in my area that could help me would also be welcomed. Also a huge help would be a compiled list of the parts I will need not including the motor so that I can get started on parts hunting and budgeting. Thank you all, I appreciate any help or suggestions

Improving my 92 Loyale
LittleLoyaleMan replied to LittleLoyaleMan's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I've thought about exhaust modifications, and also looked into improving the fuel injection process. However all of which would be money spent that I could be spending on an EJ swap, and most of which would also be replaced in the middle of the EJ swap. I may need to bring am additional person in on this so I know exactly what is needed from an old EJ system to be able to convert over to my car. I've done some calling around and I can get a motor through pick n pull at roughly $200, or $250 with a warranty. I'm going to need a compiled list of parts though, so it's more of an "over the course of time" cost rather than an immediate $1,500. -
Improving my 92 Loyale

After some extended research I think I'm going go for basic maintenance on the EA motor to keep it running good. While doing so, on the side get an EJ from a pick n pull/ various wrecking yard. With proper time and money management I want to look into rebuilding said EJ motor, and eventually lead up to a full conversion. I believe it will be the most time consuming given my financial situation, but the end result will be satisfying -

@DaveT I hear what you're saying about not receiving colder air, although I have noticed a difference in throttle response, my engine has also been running at a cooler temp since the installment. I have plans for better air flow via hood vents, to allow for cooler air to enter the intake. I also understand there isn't much I can do, but I have limited experience so I was hoping for a few creative suggestions to help me in the right direction. As far as an engine swap goes, I just don't have the money saved up to do it, and I lack the tools/experience to do it myself so the cost will be high for me. -
