My 95 Impreza has been stalling for about 3 weeks. It usually happens in high outside heat, warmed up, after a short time shut off. When I start the car, everything is fine for between 10 sec and 10 minutes then the engine suddenly loses all power, and the RPM's stutter. It usually takes 3-5 seconds for the engine to die completely and there is a 50-70% chance that the engine will catch in that time and I can continue driving. If it stops, I can restart right away without a problem. After 3 weeks the car finally threw a code: 100. Mass Air Flow Sensor Circuit fault. Is there a history on these things I should know? Any place to start looking? I haven't had time to check the wiring yet, but I thought that is where I'd start, hoping I can find a wear point or corroded connection. Thanks in advance everyone. Dave

So I made one last attempt to remove the clutch. Now I'm getting a new (used) compressor. I got the coil to move, but it broke the front cylinder off of the compressor.-the part that the clutch is pressed onto. For future reference- I think the clutch has to be heated and the compressor cooled to break them apart. Thanks everyone.

Thanks, I am....not confident....about professional help at this point since all my inquiries and all of my own research has gotten me the same results: 1. The clutch is listed as a separate part in all of the catalogs but 2. The clutch is not SOLD as a separate part anywhere. 3. The PDF file of compressor specifications on the Calsonic website (the mfg.) has been removed. Conspiracy? I think so.

I have a '95 Impreza and the A/C clutch self-destructed. Actually the bearing overheated, melted most of the plastic and burned out the coil. I would love to be able to remove the clutch and replace it. I've managed to get the "plate" off-the part that the belt drives, but the coil remains stubborn. If I can't get it off and a new clutch on, then I'm looking at almost $600 to replace the compressor and the reciever/drier. The compressor is good and the system is full of freon. Any input is welcome. Dave

I have a '95 Impreza AT and the AC clutch pulley bearing is screaming. I expect the pulley is going to the great used parts yard in the sky. Since I do not want to replace the compressor, does anyone know a source for just the bearing or the entire pulley assembly? Feel free to make off-list contact if you want. bambam6"at"earthlink"dot"net.

Thanks everybody. BTW, I got into trouble by doing exactly that-lining up the marks on the camshaft sprockets to notch at the top of the cover and by aligning the small triangle-shaped mark on the crankshaft gear with the top of the crankcase seam. I did not see any other marks, although the manual download I saw shows a mark on the ring behind the crankshaft gear that the crankshaft sensor reads. I hope my suby has one.

I was fixing a leaky oil pump when I noticed that the alignment marks for my camshaft sprockets were about 45 deg. off from where I thought they should be. Since I can be immensly stupid when not fed properly, I put them where I thought they should be. I was wrong! and turned the engine over twice with the cams baout 45 deg, off. Did I bend the valves? Am I sunk?
