  1. The alarm light in my 2000 legacy stays on solid, not blinking and the alarm doesn't work. Keyless entry does work. I tried setting valet mode on an off but no change. According to this link, http://www.cars101.com/subaru/keyless.html#alpine, I have an alpine alarm (the remote in the picture matches mine). However the alarm light is not in the center of the dash, it's on the very left side of the dash, to the left of the CRUISE button. I checked the fuse diagram, but it didn't indicate any fuse for the alarm. Any one have any ideas or suggestions. Thanks Ron
  2. Why are water pumps so expensive. Is there a lot of labor involved? Also, whats the life expentancy of a water pump?
  3. I doubt it includes the water pump and yes dealers are always overpriced but considering the alternative, which is me paying for everything, I can't complain too much. Thanks again for all your feedback, this message board is GREAT!!
  4. Thanks GROSSGARY and NIPPER for your quick replys. I just spoke with the dealer again. The $400 includes cam, crank, oil pump seals, the timing belt plus tensioners + 1 additional hour of labor and a few other things I don't remember. He said it's all part of a timing belt "kit". As long as they don't find anything else to charge me for, this seems acceptable.
  5. Just got a call from Subaru, that they will repair my head gasket under warranty:burnout: . I've got a 2000 Legacy L with the 2.5L. The car has 90000 miles. They want $400 to replace the timing belt, is this a good price? The recommended replacement is at 105000 miles. Thanks in advance for any feedback.
  6. Blitz Where did you get the WWP-99 Service Campaign letter? I couldn't find it on the Subaru website. I have a 2000 Legacy that has the problem and I'm going to Subaru next week. Thanks
  7. I have a 2000 Legacy L and am experiencing the same transmission hesitation problem going into drive, and it has recently become worse. You mention in several posts about a TSB for "transmission delayed engagement (defective seal)". I followed your link to the NHTSA TSB web site, but the closest problem I could find was under "POWERTRAIN" and read "TRANSMISSION CONTROL UNIT (TCU) CODE 45 AND ALL-WHEEL DRIVE HARSH ENGAGEMENT." Is that the one you were talking about? or is there someplace else I should look. Is it possible the TSB was removed? I'm bringing the car to Subaru this Thursday and wanted to have as much info as possible before I go. The car has just over 60K (60,800) miles so I don't know if they will warranty whatever they find wrong. Thanks for any advice you can offer.
  8. I had my tranny fluid and filter changed by my local mechanic. I've been going to him a few years and his work has always been top notch. He works on a lot of foreign cars (including my maxima) and I've never had any problem with his work. I haven't spoken to him yet but the invoice claims he changed the fluid and filter and I specified that I wanted only subaru parts. Also, I clarified with my wife, she only first noticed the problem about a month ago. Which means that she's was driving about 6 months after the fluid and filter were changed with no problems. The car has about 66,000 miles on it. So if my tranny fluid and filter were changed 7 months ago, what do you think the problem is? Thanks again for your input.
  9. Has this issue ever been resolved? I have a 2000 Legacy L that has the same hesitation when shifting into drive. In addition, my wife (it's her car) said that after sitting at a red light after a 40 mile drive (her regular commute), she stepped on the gas and the engine revved? but the car didn't move. She put it in park then back into drive and it was OK. This has happened to her twice. I had the tranny fluid and filter changed over the summer. The hesitation shifting into drive started not long after that (I just found out about it), and the car no moving when stepping on the gas started recently. I check the fluid weekly and it's always been perfect. Thanks for any advice you may have.
