Does anyone sell a locker for the rear differential on 4wd model GLs'? I want to cancel out the LSD and give power to both wheels.

I will have to find some here in Idaho -
Ok. Thanks for all your info. I am out of questions for the time being. But if anymore occur, I will be sure to ask. I'll post pics when I start my overhaul.
-
Our freeway speed is 80. Is that okay to drive or should I keep it down.
-
So basically just drive it like you did before the overhaul?
-
Ok i will keep that in mind. Which brand or type of oil do you recommend for the break-in process?
-
i got three hills between me and town. Oh and I meant 40 like 20 there and 20 back.
-
About 40 miles till town, is that consider to long?
-
Thanks for the tips. What speed would you recommend for normal driving.
-
The engine has just over 200k, and has been pretty well maintained through out its life. (I am the second owner,o got it when it had 197k on it.) I plan to do the whole nine down to main bearings.

when overhauling an Ea82, should it be taken to a machine shop?

Stripped timing belt on ea 1.8L

You know thats one thing that slips my mind about these motors, is the non-interference engine. That's what makes them even better. I was thinking of other engines, my apologies.- 25 replies

Stripped timing belt on ea 1.8L
ClassySoob replied to golden gordon's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
The worst that could happen would be damage to the head or pistons. I've heard of pistons shattering, but luckily I haven't gone through any of that... Knock on wood- 25 replies

Old if possible.

I plan on tearing it down and putting in new pistons, rings, valves, bearings, and all that. I was told a couple of the valves were worn. So might as well do the whole thing.

Thanks for the advice, ill keep that in mind, but unfortunately I gotta do a ring job on my number 3 cylinder. Might as well do em all when i am in there. I just hope that the wall ain't to badly damaged.

Where did you get those at? -
Hey, here soon I am planning on doing an overhaul on my EA82. As of now I am doing as much research as I can. I am currently reading over my repair manual so I know all the procedures by heart. But... I need the break-In procedure for the engine, and what would be the best oil to use during the procedure. Any info could help. -Kind regards Dan

ahh, ok. i would say timing, but that happens a bit more frequent. Maybe your solenoid.
-
does it usually only happen at one speed, or is it constant when the rig is in motion?
-
You might have a damaged ground, or loose connection. I had this problem with my 85 GL. My nut on the negative terminal of the battery would vibrate loose over a period of time, I replaced the nut and bolt and haven't had that problem since.
