  1. NICE WORK DOOD!! I've been researching this for like 3 years, saw -chux's DR come through the market (of coarse at a bad time) but am excited to see this go through... I'm still working some australian forums to see if anyone down there will help me get a DR AWD tranny... Aplineraven's thread is quite comprehinsive, good find and good on you for linking it... nothing but good reports! I will be eagerly following your progress and your reports on the final outcome, road, highway and trail driving subaru_dude!!
  2. I have the chance to get a '96 OB with 246K miles for $500. It has a suspected failing head gasket and a certain power steering leak, and a couple minor things like rear latch interior pannel clips broken, etc.... My gut tells me pick it up, do the head gasket and call it a day, but with 245,000 miles, I want the next subaru to be a definite 10 year rig... -torn between emotion and logic-
  3. NICE! Lemme throw in something I just found out!!! I have yet to post this officially somewhere (I just finished the back strut spring swap 2 nights ago and took photos this morning), but lemme suggest gen one foreter coils in the OB struts... You'll get about an extra 3/4 inch lift (at lest in the back, probly the same in front, but I am not positive just yet) ... OB left and cherry red FOR right, There's an extra half coil on the FOR spring: when fit into strut: checkit, this is the rear... 95 leggo on 98 OB struts and coils (with worn out 27x8.5x14 BFGs) 95 leggo on 98 OB struts and 99 FOR coils (with worn out 27x8.5x14 BFGs) I also used FOR tophats, but when side-by side I couldn't eyeball any real difference b/t the FOR and OB tophats... Given the extra half coil in the FOR spring, there may be a slight geometrical difference in the upper spring perch... Here's the before (when the BFG's were new, 8-10-06) and here's the after profile from this morning (6-23-10).. I think, to the eye, it looks more like an inch so maybe i had some inconsistency in measuring.. I did the before measuring a couple of months ago And possibly the before profile pic above is also on slightly uneven ground, slightly. But maybe enough to compress the left rear a touch... Plus 40,000 miles of wear on the BFGs Anyhoo, there's my little tidbit of info... I'm enjoying following the evolution of this safariwagon, nice work TheLoyale!
  4. SICK!!!!! :slobber::slobber:i wanna one too, i wanna:slobber::slobber:
  5. +2 BUT, I'd still like to see a 4x4 swap in the WRX... Maybe one good trip till the 210+ HP shreads the 'ol EA82 tranny But still curious. . .
  6. tiiiight! Really like the skid plate's framing... Solid but not too much to overweigh the front end... When're you coming to moab again? bring your welder and some scrap stock
  7. Looks good, ya'll.. now you need the cargo liner too I'm here to say, limo black and night driving = not the best combo Back in my muscle car, high school days, I lmo tinted my 69 dart, all around! Yeah, windows open for night driving in that bad boy Ooh yeah, with the air shocks in the rear, to rake it up in back, and the flat black, rattle can primer job!! CLASSIC!! ooh, that takes me back
  8. Ditto on the gravel express rear tire kit from overseas!! Newsoobdude, have you started looking into what it takes to get a D/R AWD? If you have a better solution that importing one from australia or europe, I'm on board with your plan!!! That is what I've come up with in getting one here...
  9. who is this Martimus? I must track down and begin dialogue. . .
  10. That's awesome. I've been asking about the difference in overall clearance b/t OB springs and FOR springs for a while, without much success. Do you have measurements comparing OB springs vs. FOR springs on and off the car? And, is the FOR tophat "taller" ? Thanks man, this answers a speculation I've had for a while... I'm doing this as soon as I can get the front springs and tophats to complete the set...
  11. I've been looking into a D/R AWD swap for a few years now... not much success thusfar for feasability... buying and shipping from australia, etc. etc... I think an EA82ed 4x4 in an impreza would be the bomb!! I'd say go for that one, 'specially since you've been there with the brat... you'd have FWD for townie driving and real 4x4 for the rough, rally, recovery, etc. PLUS you could run it in FWD too!! If you really do have the hook-up on a D/R AWD I want it... nice work on this IMP so far dood!
  12. Yeah, i got 4 OB struts from tire rack for that, but i think these are complete assemblies (read: strut, spring and tophat...) You'll only get struts from tire rack and have to reuse your legacy springs or source some OB or first gen forester spings (second gen FOR springs are different.. they have a smaller diameter at the top of the coil.. same as i found on H-6 SVX front coils, thus they won't go in a first gen OB strut's upper spring perch/tophat) I think if it (second gen FOR suspension) lifts a first gen OB an inch or so then it'll lift your 95 OB 2.5"ish at best? It might not be enough to worry about the rest of the stuff, but it also might... I did OB strut swap on my 95 sedan like 6 years ago.. No probs.. Well except the used struts finally died last year So i'm on new GR2s, but still, no probs... I didn't do rear trailing arm brackets, engine/tranny x-member brackets/spacers or anything with the rear diff... I know its tried and true, but you should get another inch of suspension lift out of second gen fozzy bits I think another thread was on nasioc of all places... but the link above is pretty good... I'm psyched to stay tuned whichever route you go... It's always good to see another leggo lifted.. ciao, -mark-
  13. :banana:BAM:banana: http://www.dirtyimpreza.com/forums/showthread.php?t=15512
  14. a fine question... All I've heard is up to 2" over stock and you don't need to drop driveline (crossmember spacers, tranny x-member or rear trailing arms bracketry, etc.) compontents, BUT maybe second gen FOR gear might be pushing the envelope of a legacy/95OB... You may get to be the lucky one to share that info with the crowd I think i found out about it on dirtyimpreza or subaruoutback.org maybe do some searching over there :-\ **EDIT**check here for a start http://www.teamilluminata.com./Customers/OBAT/obat.htm I'm pretty sure this also linked from the DI
  15. Copy this! It'd be cool to see it up on second gen forester strut assemblies! I've heard good things about this set-up giving and outback a lift, so think more lift than just an OB strut swap
  16. I'd say HOT" as in thermal not neato 'course I'm not experienced with WI temperatures
  17. *thumbs up!* hey kyle, is that the same area you introduced folks to your monster WRX articulation pix? i bet a whole new universe just opened up for you!
  18. Yeah! Jeez, it's been, like forever!!
  19. You made lower arms for the 'ol EA82 also? SIQ!!
  20. *subscribed* NICE!! oooooo, and automatic I'll be following this one. I like looking for other 95's gettin' fixed up.
  21. Good to see this one, good to see Kyle!!! (I've been a little out of the loop lately
  22. Hey there, I've got a thread in new gen forum http://ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=111151 with a bunch of questions on what's available, in a 5 speed, down under. The thread is what I think I understand what australia ha, but I'm looking for verification to help narrow my search... Thanks for looking and helping.
  23. I'm very interested in the dual range 5 speeds available down under (and I think Latin America and Europe, but maybe easiest to get from down under??). I have questions on what was made and is available in Australia. As I understand it, and please correct me if I'm wrong (this is regarding 5 speed manuals): -EA81 ("MY" series?) transmissions are 3.70 final drive with a 1.44:1 low range and are PT4WD (loyale in USA) -EA82 ("L" series?) transmissions are 3.70 OR 3.90 final drive with a 1.59:1 low range and are PT4WD (loyale in USA) -EA82 turbo transmissions are 3.90 final drive with a 1.19:1 low range and are PT4WD (loyale in USA) -RX trannies are 3.70 final with a 1.59:1 low and are FT 4WD with(?) locking center diff -XT6 (in USA) are 3.90 final with a 1.59:1 low and are FT 4WD with locking center diff -EJ18?? I've seen a couple in older USA imprezas but don't know much about them. Maybe 4.11 5 speed?? (not sure) -EJ22 (liberty down under?), or first gen liberty (legacy in USA) are 3.90 final with a 1.19:1 low range and are FTAWD (USA had some 4.11 final 5 speed single range FT AWD, mine's a 95, thus second gen legacy, and is 3.90 final SR FT AWD) -EJ25 forester are 4.11 final with a 1.44:1 low range gear and are FT AWD -EJ25 outback (australia) I think were 3.90 final with 1.19:1 low gear -EJ25 impreza (down under) are 3.90 final with a 1.59:1 low range gear and are FT AWD and beyond that I don't have any ideas, like newer/second gen legacy/liberty or second gen forester (?2003-2005?) And I'm sure turbos mix it up more... I'm interested in a discussion verifying what's really around down under. This will really help me narrow my search and what it is I'm really looking for What would be ideal for my interest and application (and I understand it can be made by marrying up to 3 different transmissions) would be a FT AWD, locking center diff with 4.11 final and a 1.59:1 low. BUT, What would be quite practical and probably more plug-and-play (if it comes this way) would be a 4.11 final with 1.44:1 low (again, 1.59 would be better and could be created but again with more customizing) to bolt up to my EJ22 legacy. Or second most practical would be a 3.90 final (straight bolt up and no rear diff swap on my current rig) with 1.59:1 low (I think this is came in an australian impreza?) I'd prefer a 4.11 final to compensate for my taller tires and would prefer a 1.59:1 low, for obvious reasons, BUT a 1.44:1 low would be fine! OR, I could live with a 3.90 final (since that's what I've been driving for 6 years on tall tires) with 1.59:1 low. SO, let the discussion begin I'd especially like to hear from you folks in Australia and New Zealand. Ooh, I think Latin America and Europe got the FTAWD dual ranges like down under... so there's that too... Thanks!
