I second this John, as per this morning's email... Your knowledge and fabricat-ability are phonominal, but the follow up is lagging...
-
Cool, thanks for the start.. i think my gearing is 3.91 could I straight swap a 4.11 diff?
-
This is a fact... John would love to get into the 05 version I'm sure! That'd rock 11 go for it...
-
Right... So the dealer told me that bajas have an extra inch on the outback their based on b/c the bajas come with little 1" block in the suspension, ergo a factory 1" body lift... -mw-
-
So my superu is lame! The 95 legs (non turbo) didn't come with LSD. (Yeah I know, tons of you coulda told me that So what would I need to do to put LSDs in it? Could I just switch out the rear pumpkin, and front diff. units? Do i need to do any computer crap? I assume the tranny does the center diff, so the power sent to each wheel comes drom the front or rear diffs, not the computer, right? Would IMP outback diffs work? the junk yard's got a 2002 handy... If i get outback diffs, would i need to do any gearing in the tranny? thanks gang!

Sorry man, I'm not trying to hijack your thread, just fired up for more tricked out ne generation stuff... I'm stoked to see your new meats, when're they getting bought and installed? -mw-
-
Deffintely need more of these in the world!! C'mon you know you want too! And I'm not even getting a commission on this

John's actually got a jig made for this bumper. Its essentially the same bumper on an '04 baja, an '03 outback wagon and now my 95 sedan... Yeah it really just bolts on! get in touch with John he'll help you out and probly work with you for sure... Tell him I sent you
-
Yes yes, thank you, thank you... No its really cool to see more legacys off the ground.. Its frustrating cuz when i began to look into it, BYB and these guys had lifts for old gen, and new gen, but not 95's (like mine)! But through some looking i found out about the strut swap, insta-lift option (especially good for a daily driver type) and was stoked! Cool to see more doing the same, and the OBSs too.. Keep us posted with pix of the new meats too, and call up john, look into a tube bumper and you'll be the envy of all your frineds, stranger will leave notes on your car in admiration, and you will walk taller John's in Oregon... -mw- (sorry for the duplicate message..)

But yes yes, Thank you, thank you... Its really cool to see another new generation getting off the ground. i know there's some Candians thinking the same thing... Mudrat (aka John) has recently put a dual range 4x4 into a forester... Now we need to get some of that action going in these legacys!! Keep it up and let's see some pix when you get the new meats on it too!!
-
That's a mudrat specialty! http://www.oregonoffroadsubaruclub.org/ John ROCKS, his work is all over this board!
-
Nice!! Is that struts only, did you do a lift as well or was that someone else? c'mon now, the green gods have to fess up to their Superu inspiration
-
205x75x14 (give + 1 inch lift) outback struts (give +2 inch lift) custom alum rims 2.25 cat back exhaust thru a magnaflow engine stock with K&N box filter w/ intake crap removed from finder Some loss in 5th gear, but still goes 90 + mph, intake and exhaust fixed big tire weight around town...
-
John John John, Ohh how you tempt me so!! It's hard to say what i'll be thinkning come this christmas That's awesome, I'm waiting to see Forester Ranger's pix of the forester wheeling with some 'ol dogs! later, -mark-

Any Pics Of a Lifted gen 1 Brat?
superu replied to 75subie's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Sell it BAH, lift it YAH!! its fun browsing other posts and seeing your thoughts jon -mw- -
Well until you sell it that its Yeah i could probly get a decent motor imported or even from Phoenix (2 hrs away) but I'm hoping to get it going MUCH cheaper than that... Is your avitar the same brat with a topper? What kind of milage do you get? Yours (the dl) is FWD and 4WD, not dual range 4by? Thanks for the pix, its like a little inspiration for my summer project -mw-

Any Pics Of a Lifted gen 1 Brat?
superu replied to 75subie's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Didn't lumpycam have a lifted gen 1 with a small block chevy and a solid rear end? I saw thestring but no pix... I want to see that thing! -
I may have a hit on a 78 DL wagon 5 speed. If this pans out I'll probly swap that engine into the 79 brat and see about bumpers and wheels to get it running... Don't know What the engine's like, but i have seen in running around town so i know it works... at least better than the spar engine sitting for 10 yrs I'll keep ya'll posted... Gotta get finals out of the way before i put any real time and effort into this, but i'm stoked to get the 'ol brat running! -mw-
-
Yes they do... The superu was better but it'd snowed since then
-
Uuuhh, err, DUHH!! Yup mudrat its a 79, i was in brain-melt study mode yesterday when i tok a subaru web-surf break... Sorry all, its a 79...
-
well kids, its been a while... school'd been kicking my butt, not to mention work... but anyhoo here's some shots of my free brat... now to get 'er running... well to see how do-able that is i guess so its got a stuck 1600 under the hood, and another 1600 riding shotgun, which was running when it was purchased (10 yrs ago) then left to sit.... so gunna see what it'll take to fire it up.. so correct me if i'm wrong you masters of the old school, is the starter mounted to the bell housing, not the engine? kinda a pain in the rump roast to get it running outside of the car this way... anyhoo, that's the progress to date...

How to bring an 80 brat back to life
superu replied to superu's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Roger that... I thunk (hoped) it was DR, but it makes sense that its just FWD vs 4WD... It'd be nice to have low range (see a thread on putting low range into the legacy superu), but i don't see the money flowing from the dollar fairy anytime soon so this is staring to look like a rebult carb, and regular juices and gasket checking, but how would it work to run CNG ? I've seen other cars running CNG, that you can run unleaded fuel through also.. would I be able to do that with this brat, or would it be CNG/gasoline dedicated?
