  1. Yeah i h8mud sounds familiar. Probly the only 80 from Moab there Yeah he custom built the blocks and caster correction, etc. etc. Kind of a pain but he got that figured out, for a little less than a complete pre-fab 4" kit. Thing is (out west at least) most people go 6" and he didn't want to go that big, so he got springs and figured the rest out... But sounds like you got all the weird stuff figured out, and your milder lift probably doesn't have as many of those issues to deal with. 'T looks good man!
  2. NICE and quick... Did you ever chat with my buddy on the LC forums? I think he suggested tire siping those MTs (I now know you can't get it done locally), etc. but he's got good beta on lifting, and how the rear end shifts laterally, and how you might have to shave clearance for the front sway bar, etc. etc. (I don't remember all the specifics but I know there's is some stuff you may encounter and need to deal with) Maybe that's b/c he went custom 4" though. . . Either way, nice job, sweet turn around and direction on this one.
  3. thermodynamics and the specific heat of water, as buffered by antifreeze/coolant
  4. Oooo, oil temp gauge... covet. the ultragauge tells me a lot, but not oil temp.
  5. thought yuo already did the suspension lifting more, diffferent, hadn't done it yet? and thanks for your address there.... KNOW WE ALL KNOW!!! :-p
  6. but how is the low end? I deleted both cats (and upsized pipe to 2.25" thru a cherry bomb as a resonator and a magnaflow, SUPER LOUD with that setup) and lost ALL low end, replaced the cats ( and kept 2.25" cat back with the same cherry bomb and mangaflow) and the low end came back. . . FWIW It sounds good (there are some youtube videos of the tone, here's one but superu and moab should get you there) with this setup, but I digress
  7. Cool, and good to know about JDMs as plastic too Will add 98-99 OB illumination to my "next mod' list thx for the beta!! And yeah, my wife;s 93 impreza base model had glass lenses and was waay brighter with a better beam pattern than my 95 legacy... again,. out old 93 had glass and our 03 OBS is plastic,:-\
  8. What exactly do you mean by switching the H4 harness end to the 9007 harness end? The car-side wiring plug/harness? Do they take different bulbs (legacy vs outback?), thus different wire harnesses, and what year OB are yours from? I feel like early gen (like 96, maybe 97) were a little different than the later gen 1 (like 99s) ones. thanks man! awesomeness!! 100 pages FTW !!!!!!!!!!
  9. SWEET!! I've been thinking about trying that for years! My concern was going from 95 Legacy 1-pice HL and turn to the OB's 2-pice unit (HL=1, turn=2). How'd it go, is it straight swap? how are the plugsand mounting locations? How's the illumination difference? I 3Med my stock lenses and it healped a bit, but the OB ones just look like they project light better. I've even though about modding in some 1st gen Impreza headlights, since they're glass lenses and way brighter than my 95 stockers (wife had a 93 IMP for a while and it was NICE driving that at night, kinda sketchier in mine). I know they wouldn't fit just right, but I'm after the better light, w/o the cost of JDM projectors. Although I hear JDM (and Aussie) 2nd gen legacies have glass lenses. . . That looks awesome and if it's straight swap, it's my next mod!!! Thanks for trying it out man! *EDIT* also just noticed the Outback badge, nice!
  10. That's pretty sweet, I wonder how closely that would fit on a Forester's dash, in that pod/cubby spot. T'would be sweet in the wagon though too!
  11. copy that ^^ for my 95 Legacy running OB 5MT with RX rear LS in the 99 OB rear diff.
  12. That's weighted ON the ground?!!! Body line is at the TOP of the rim?!!! Dude, this is SICK, pure sickness man!! Now a 2.5 and 4.44's auto with LSD front?!!! GEEEEZUSS!! :headbang::headbang:
  13. and does it bolt up to the first cat's manifold location or do you have to do some custom work to fit the rest of the exhaust or get custom header-back exhaust?? I too go back and forth on weather or not a header is worth it. More low end torque would be a good thing.
  14. Looks good!! Decided NOT to sype them like my buddy suggested for snow and ice huh?
  15. Did you go with tirerack? My buddy's looking for a full size MT spare but didn't like the prices of tirerack, discounttiredirect, or others... He just found this site though:www.tirecrawler.com
  16. Back when the volume knobs went up to 11, right? I like hte power strip in the background. My dad has an office machine business when I was a little kid, but I remember seeing those on his work benches.
  17. Now you guys are just teasin'! You've got us curious what kind of sweet sticker action has been gong on
  18. Sweet, K! So what's going on in the lift with this 'ol gl? Do you have a writeup on what you finally ended up going with on the lift? I just saw that solid rear bar in these last couple posts and it made me wonder what the final design was on this one.. :brow: Nice job with the old-school dude!!
  19. Other than being blown out and the front bumper hitting parking stoppers b/c it was so low, here is why we replaced the struts in the 93 IMP with 98 FOR parts:

    Rear tophat was blown.

ans as you now know why you need to use IMP tophats and NOT the FOR tophats...

    FOR:

    gen 1 IMP tophat

Anyhoo, here's a diagram from my 95 legacy service manual.

You will put the washer between #3 and #2, and it needs to fit down inside the well where you see the nut in the first pic.

    Ciao!

  20. You need to check your settings, I tried PMing you and it says the user has decided NOT to receive PMs...

  21. I thought about it some more, and I think I had the order wrong.

So when you put the strut together, it'll be the strut shock, then the [compressed] spring on a little rubber ring on hte lower spring perch, then you extend the shock all the way out and slip the tophat on the top of the shock (the stub in those photos), then the washer (to take up the rest of that long collar from the FOR strut, then the nut. So the washer goes on TOP of the tophat, so it was to be small enough to fit IN that little divot in the tophat AND have a large enough hole for the shock, then the nut, so the waher and the shock sandwhich the tophat.

I wish I had a photo of that process but I didn't take those pix...

    Does that make sense??

    later and good luck,
