I am the owner of a 1998 Subaru Legacy GT with a Naturally Aspirated 2.5l engine and a 4EAT. I have goals to one day swap the engine and transmission over to a Turbo Charged 2.0l Engine with a 6MT.

  1. I'm not sure how hard it is to find Subarus in Missouri since I got mine when I was in North Carolina, but the Head Gasket problem seems to be a bit common on older models due to the way the engine sits. As far as i know, I don't think a head gasket problem has a deeper meaning as far as issues go, but it does take some work to replace them since the heads are on the sides.. (Don't quote me on that lol i'm still doing some research myself...)
  2. Thank You! I plan on going for the 2.0 Turbo and 6MT conversion on my 98 Legacy. Not sure if i'm going to lower it or not, since you need decent ground clearance around where I live. But I've got some big plans in store for my Legacy if I can ever get the money for them.
  3. Hello, I'm new here on the USMB forums. I am also a part of the SL-i Forums as well. Our family has always driven a Subaru at some point in time. It started with my grandfather, who owns a 78 Leone Coupe and two Subaru Brats. My mother got a Subaru as her first car. I think it was an 88 Justy. My mother wrecked her Justy (avoiding a deer, causing it to roll) Then my Grandmother ended up getting a first gen legacy. Fast forward to 2012, my parents bought a 2012 Outback (later trading it in for a 2017 WRX). Then once I was able to drive I picked up a nice 98 Legacy for $1500. I love it and plan to hang on to it for as long as possible.
