How Does Subaru 4X4 Work?
Jack in Norfolk replied to Sapper 157's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
What about the full time 4wd EA82 cars? These must have had center differentials, as some of them have the “diff lock” button. Is the Full Time 4wd in these cars (GL10 Turbo wagons are the ones I see most frequently) inanyway similar to the AWD on my Forester XT? -
4wd n/a ea81 coupe?
Jack in Norfolk replied to Jack in Norfolk's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Thanks man. I'd love to see pics of your sedan. A good friend had a beige one in High School that she used to drive me around in. Always liked the lines. Nice looking car too -
Sorry guys, I've been on here a loooooong time (sporadically in the last few years admittedly), but I'm old now and getting a little soft in the head. Did Subaru ever sell a naturally aspirated 4wd ea81 coupe in the US, or were all of the 4wd models turbocharged? Thank you.

Ugh... When you're right you're right guys. Truth hurts I suppose. I once had a metallic avocado green 1976 Dodge Ramcharger with only 47k original miles on it. The top was white and the whole thing came off- all the way up to the windshield. This was when I lived in VA Beach. She already had rusty rockers. When we decided to move to Boston, I knew that truck was not coming with us. 70s Mopars might be the only thing that rusts out faster than Subies...

I really want to get another classic subaru. There are some nice ones for sale out west. I just don't have the heart to bring a great old car back east and throw it into certain death. I understand that the best way is obviously not to drive in the snow, but when you are talking about an old 4wd subaru, what fun is that? I live east of Boston. A few years ago I bought a Forester XT from a buddy and it was clean. Car spent most of its life in VA and Colorado. Then did a couple years in Rhode Island. After two years, maybe three in MASS there was significant bubbling in the wheel wells. I drove it through the local heated carwash (with the undercarriage sprayer) nearly every week. The salt is just brutal up here. I have heard about etching and other coatings, but haven't looked into it that closely. I sold the Forester, and am really missing the sound of a boxer. There are two nice ea81 cars in my sights. Any and all input is much appreciated. Thanks.

Amazing work, and great documentation! I have been scheming to re-power an EA81 car with WRX running gear for years now. Glad to see somebody taking the bull by the horns!

Prior to my ownership, my Forester was victim to some shoddy body work. Some shot overspray on the muffler and exhaust tip. There is also soot, and other black stuff in addition to the white paint. I have tried acetone, chrome wheel polish, barkeeper's friend, piant stripper, and wrights's silver cream. My understanding is that there should be clearcoat, or something similar over the metal, right? Anyway, all advise is appreciated! Thank you!

The black plastic strip around my windshield comes loose once in a while after about an hour ant highway speed. I can pop it back in, but it doesn't feel like it is seated very well, and eventually comes back out. I am curious to know the function of this piece of plastic. Is it just cosmetic? Does it protect from rust and first build up? Am I in danger of the glass coming loose? Also, how do I fix this. I am reluctant to use adhesive/sealant, as it seems like it make windshield replacement difficult in the future. Thanks

Subaru featured in the movie post ?

I feel like there was a lifted GL wagon on the beach in the Truman Show. -
Hey Paul, I am heading down to VA at the beginning of Feb to see a UVA basketball game with my brother and my Old Man. It has been decades since they were any good, so we are going to savor the moment. I may stop overnight on the way if I get out of work late on Friday night. Maybe we could grab a beer? Can't believe you met the man behind Mosrite guitars!! Deke Dickerson is one of my favorites, and I think he bought the company, or something like that?? So yeah, I'm back to driving a Subaru which is a step in the right direction, but someday, I still want another EA car, maybe a convertible.

It is a great area for Subarus! They are everywhere! My brother lives there and is currently looking for a replacement for his 99 outback wagon. I never skied grandfather, but I did break my back at Beech once... This old GL in picture was actually spotted down the mountain in the town of High Point. I am pretty stoked on the Forester. I always wanted a turbo subi. My friend bought this one brand new in Norfolk. He lives in Newport, RI now, so it hasn't seen that much road salt. He replaced the struts with some sportier units, so she rides a little lower than stock. He added a boost gauge and a nicer GPS/stereo unit, but by and large, it's all stock. The only thing I wish it had was the giant Forester sunroof, oh well. Overall, I am super stoked on the Subaru!

Its hard to believe that it has been so long since I got rid of my 1986 GL Wagon. I took a road trip to Boone, NC right after I bought the new (to me) car and an old GL parked right next to me at a restaurant. Anyway, I am very pleased with the car. I guess this is the wrong forum for this new car, but you guys were always my people, so I just wanted to show off the new wheels.

There used to be a very long thread about Subarus in movies and tv shows. -
Hey guys, what was the verdict here? Do the Legacys also have the wiring harness for plug and play, or just the Outbacks? I am looking at buying a 2002 Legacy GT wagon and I want to install a hitch. So far I have not found a plug and play solution for this car. When I put a hitch on my Camry, I was able to order 'T' connecters which just clipped in the line to the tail lights and out to a 4 flat connector; not cutting. I'd like to find a similar solution for the Subaru. Thank you.

Hello Subaru Fans! After a 17 year hiatus, I am considering once again becoming a Subaru owner. My last Subie was a 1986 4wd GL wagon, 5 spd d/r. It was a great car! I am currently looking at a 2002 Legacy Wagon. This one is not an Outback. Its a 5 speed with a sunroof, fog lights, cloth interior, cruise. Body looks straight. 99k miles. Price is $2500. The guy has only had it for a year and doesn't know the history. I have read the FAQ, but am wondering if there is anything in particular that I should be wary of. Also, would this car have the 2.5? Im wondering if it is possible to add heated seats as well. Thank you!

1983 gl convertible
Jack in Norfolk replied to convertiblegirl's topic in Meet n' Greet. Your USMB Welcome Center
Im guessing she sold it because the Craigslist ad is gone. I really wanted this car and tried to justify buying it, but the time is just not right for another toy at my house. It was one of the cleanest, nicest ones I have seen though.
