  1. http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=55023 Sounds like this guy may know a thing or two about the old cars.
  2. Hey, I am partial to the 1980s wagons so I am not much help here, but I did want to point your attention to the "Historic Subaru Forum". The guys in there are crazy about the old cars like you have and brats too. I'm sure they would love for you to drop in and post a few words and some pictures of your vehicles. Thanks. -Jack
  3. Does anybody have a working Subaru winch? Just curious. I know they made them; I've just never seen one.
  4. I think the other name, besides Subaru might have been Jackman (?)
  5. looks like you are making progress. Why not hit it with a little Gunk, or some other engine de-greasing product?
  6. If you would scan this and post it in pdf format for the rest of us to dl, you would definately be my new favorite aussie! Thus you would be unseating Mark Occhilupo. Thanks! -Jack
  7. Walter- how about posting some pictures of your ff1?
  8. you guys are a big part of the reason car insurance is so expensive for young males
  9. yeah, acetone will compromise your clearcoat or worse, your basecoat too. Bad news.
  10. Is it in Ct yet? Have you done anything to it? Any new pics? Just wondering. I hadn't heard anything about it recently. Thanks. -Jack
  11. There is lots of good info here. Many consider 200,000 miles to be just inside the break in period. They will run as long as you keep oil in them and watch the temp. CV joints seem to go pretty frequently. Cracked heads are the achilies heel and beware of the "tick of death".
  12. fujiflyr (fuji flyer)? Do you guys get 8 slots? I dunno, creativity is not coming to me tonight. I guess its better than "fah-q"
  13. I have not heard the term and I'm not quite sure I follow you. You aren't talking about painting over the outside are you? I've seen this done on the round headlighted WRX cars and others. But that seems counter productive although it looks ok.
  14. Don't take this the wrong way, but do a search or look around the site a bit. This is one of the oldest topics or subaru discussion. Regretably, we are very limited in our choices of wheels. That is why some folks swap the hubs out. Good luck.
  15. Sorry, just saw that you had responded. PM me and lets see about getting some folks together. -Jack
  16. I think I would keep 4 or 5 extra fire extinguishers around for running this rig! You definately get an A for effort though! BTW and sort of off the subject, appearantly Dial brand soap will work as a temporary plug if you punch a hole in your gas tank. Other soaps and surf wax do not work though. I learned this the hard way in Costa Rica.
  17. Good question. I said it in another post, but I couldn't remember if it was an xt or an xt6. Prior to the other night I did not know that they made the "motion" rims in 5 lug. I'll find out. I think it may have been an xt6 though.
  18. Its funny you mention that. I was walking out of Mast when I saw (I actually recognized the sound of it first) a pristine ea82 4wd wagon. It was perfect. Shiny, no dents, white wagon wheels with all of the centercaps. THis is not all that unusural a sight in Boone but I haven't seen one like that in ages around here.
  19. ok, so just to sum this up, we never got an ea81 turbo sedan in the US?
  20. great pix! was that a sailboat on the roof?
  21. Start with something easy like changing the oil. Then maybe move on to putting in new plugs and wires. Before you get into any "real" projects I would suggest geting some repair mannuals. Recently someone made an entire mannual called "How to keep your subaru alive for the compleat (sic) idiot" available to download for free. Do a search of the forum and download it. It is excedllent reading. I think that getting a Chilton's mannual and preferably the factory service mannual (FSM) would be of great benefit too. But the htkysa book is a good place to start. You are correct, they are easy to work on, but it can still get frustrating. Good luck. Welcome to the USM community. -Jack
