  1. Thanks so much for clarifiny that. I'll have a look tomorrow weather permitting. Neil
  2. thanks for reply. I can't see anything obvious that may be rubbing initially i thought(hoped) this was it. do you mean tire depth & spec should be the same? My rear tires were changed 4 wks earlier - budget makes for only 2 per paycheque! Neil
  3. Hi I know what you are going thru I had it for ages. Look at all posts by me & you'll get answers. Back in 2005 Setright gave me details of how to fix it & I passed onto mechanic. He had no joy but some time afterwards I did. Lets know how you get on. Neil
  4. Hi All, Does anyone know what the black box under rear bumper on the opposite side ot exhaust / tail pipe is for? Its a 2004 Impreza WRX AWD. Neil
  5. Hi All, I get a squeeking/whistleing noise when going straight or turning left. Its like when the wheel reaches a certain point in rotation it gives a split second sound and as I increase speed (rotation) so too does the noise to the point that it almost becomes continous. No noise when turning right. I had 2 new tires of same spec fitted on front recently & only really noticed noise since then. Any suggestions its a 04 Impreza WRX AWD. Neil
  6. Hi All, I have a similar problem. I get a squeeking/whistleing noise when going straight or turning left. Neil
  7. . Probably Ennistymon. You've prob heard all about the Cliffs of Moher & Bunratty Castle so. Lovely part of the world we holiday there at least twice a year for long weekends.
  8. Hey 86BRATMAN Hows things? I'm was born & bred in Dublin but living in north west Ireland near Sligo (appox 100miles NW from Dublin) for last 6 years - more rural -more clear roads & less chance of the motor being nicked. Downside is wear & tear on bushes/tires etc - roads are really ************ in parts (most parts!) Where is Clouna? Is it in Co. Clare? There are very few Subaru dealers in Ireland and this has resulted in there being few Subarus (or big engine cars due to insurance monopoly for years) in comparasion to Totota, Nissan or Vw's - 9/10 cars you pass are of these 3 manufacturers. Many are pittiful 1.0L's or Company owned Diesel cars. I imported mine in from Northern Ireland as there is a good range up there - some even have come over from th UK to there to meet the demand. Its extremely rare to see any Subaru's older than a 97 - prob only entered Irish market around then - never saw a Brat or anything like it. We have Justy (now discontinued), Impreza , Outback, Forester & of course the Legacy. they have recently launched for the first time the The B9 Tribeca SUV. See http://www.subaru.ie/ to get current listings & see pictures. As they aren't that popular they are expensive but many people come up & comment on Imprezas & ask Q's about them - as if they'd love one. The dealers seem to be located mainly in the cities like Dublin, Cork & Galway. There is a huge mod culture here since around 1990s. It followed the crase which started to become very popular in the UK a few years previous. - Magazines played a huge role in it - REDLINE/MAX POWER ETC. You get a wave from many mod'ed motors as well as Subie's- they wish they had a Subie I guess - I know I always wanted one before I had these 2. Don't anyone feel silly waving I think its a nice touch in this mad world we call home. So WAVE TO FELLOW SUBIE'S. Neil
  9. I was getting appox 28-30mpg from my 04 wrx 2.0. I done a mini service last week (after10k miles- I know not good but never found a good time to get her into my garage) now shes easily doing 35+mpg. Gas (petrol) here is now €1.179 a litre or near €5.50 a gallon so this really helps - I do 60miles a day travelling to work alone. All Texaco unleaded in Ireland now contains Techron - pilot market for rest of Europe - no extra cost either!
  10. Hi All, I've been driving Imprezas for a few years now & one thing I've noticed is that all other Subaru drivers wave to you when passing. Has anyone else noticed this. It wouldn't be uncommon in rural Ireland for any motorists to wave when passing another but not everyone does - unless it 2 Subarus. i've even seen it in major cities like Dublin, Cork & Galway. neil
  11. Thanks Nipper Wish it was under warrenty then I wouldn't feel stupid asking what a "throw out bearing" was. It never happened until recently and I just wanna catch any problems as they arrise. What is it and where is it located? neil
  12. Hi I had a radiator replaced by a mechanic. Afterwards I'd huge trouble with air in system. When I revved i could hear water swish from what I thought was under dash(Heater core area). My mechanic tried various things including 2 drain n refils of coolant but no luck. I tried elevating front of car to make rad cap the highest point(starting cold engine waiting for heat up etc) and it did help but still had slight sound of swishing. Try leaving car idle until warm not hot(feel rad hose). Switch off and squeeze bottom hose while gently releasing rad cap-air will pass out, tighten cap but keep lower pipe squeezed while someone squeezes top hose and gently releases rad cap more air will pass. Tighten cap and release bottom then top hose-watch reserve tank it will have coolent sucked into system replacing air pockets and lowering level of fluid in reserve. Keep an eye on coolent level and repeat process if needed. I had to repeat few times.
  13. Hi All, Over the past couple of weeks I noticed a louder than normal engine noise when I start my 00 Impreza GL with clutch engaged (although not every time say 1 in 25). The noise is kinda like a rumble or loud hum. It only lasts few seconds. I have tried starting in neutral with clutch pedal not pressed and no noise other than the usual engine start noise. Sorry to be vague but its only happened few times and some of them were times when the radio came on when I turned ignition so didn't hear it completely. The cars got 81.5k miles and I've never had to replace a clutch on any other cars I've owned so I'm not familiar with symptoms of a failing or slipping clutch. Any suggestions?? neil
  14. HI ITS AN IMPREZA 2WD. THE TIRES ARE ALL VREDSTEIN SPORTRAC 2 205/40 17'S FITTED TO ALLOY WHEELS. I CHECK PRESSURE WEEKLY AT WORK OR MY LOCAL SERVICE STATION. WHEN I REPLACED FRONT TWO I GOT THE EXACT SAME BRAND SIZE ETC. THE REAR AT THE TIME WERE PERFECT. CURRENTLY THE REAR HAVE DONE ABOUT 30000 MILES WHILE FRONT HAVE ONLY DONE ABOUT 12000. I RECKON IT MAY BE TO DO WITH SOMETHING ELSE LIKE SHOCKS. HOW LONG DO SHOCKS NORMALLY LAST ON THIS MODEL. NEIL MC
  15. Hi Everyone, I got a puncture yesterday and when I changed the tire I saw the problem-thread worn down on the inside of my rear tire. The rest of the tire is fine. I checked the others and the opposite rear one is much the same. the front two were replaced a few months back so haven't done as many miles. Any ideas what the cause of this is? Balancing? Neil Mc
